Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Power, Reliance Infra deny financial impact of ED action — Here's what the companies said

Mint2 days ago
Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure on Thursday said that recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on properties linked to Ambani will have no bearing on their business operations, financial performance.
In separate regulatory filings, both companies clarified that the developments reported in the media do not impact day-to-day functioning or future outlook. The Enforcement Directorate reportedly raided several premises in Mumbai linked to Anil Ambani on Thursday, 24 July, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
"The media reports appear to pertain to allegations concerning transactions of Reliance Communications Limited (RCOM) or Reliance Home Finance Limited (RHFL), which are over 10 years old," Reliance Infrastructure said in its filing.
Both Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Power stated that they have no business or financial linkage with RCOM or RHFL. The group further stated that RCOM has been undergoing the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, for over six years.
Regarding RHFL, the company informed that the matter has been fully resolved pursuant to a judgment by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. Similar allegations, as reported in the media, are sub-judice and currently pending before the Hon'ble Securities Appellate Tribunal, as per publicly available information, the group stated.
"Mr. Anil D. Ambani is not on the Board of Reliance Infrastructure. Accordingly, any action taken against RCOM or RHFL has no bearing or impact on the governance, management, or operations of Reliance Infrastructure," the group said.
Shares of both Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure came under pressure in Thursday's session, each falling 5% after media reports surfaced about Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids linked to an alleged ₹ 3,000-crore bank loan fraud involving Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group companies and Yes Bank.
According to PTI, the ED conducted simultaneous searches at more than 35 premises across Mumbai and Delhi, covering around 50 companies and 25 individuals. The raids are part of a money laundering investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Citing sources, PTI reported that the agency is probing allegations of illegal loan diversion between 2017 and 2019. ED officials suspect that Yes Bank promoters received funds in their related concerns just before loan disbursement to ADAG companies, indicating a possible quid pro quo or 'bribe-for-loan' nexus.
Further, the ED is looking into alleged procedural violations such as backdated credit approval memorandums, investments made without due diligence, and deviations from Yes Bank's internal credit policy.
The money laundering case is based on two CBI FIRs and inputs from multiple agencies, including SEBI, the National Housing Bank, the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA), and Bank of Baroda, the report added.

Supriya claims 14,000 men got Ladki Bahin scheme benefits, demands CBI probe

Pune: NCP (SP) working president on Saturday claimed that about 14,000 men got benefits under the Mukhyamantri Mazhi Ladki Bahin scheme and demanded a CBI probe into it, while deputy chief minister said funds would be recovered from such beneficiaries, if found. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Citing some reports, Supriya said nearly 14,000 men were found in the list of beneficiaries of the Ladki Bahin scheme introduced in August 2024, and nearly Rs21 crore was disbursed to them. Interacting with reporters in Pune, Supriya demanded a CBI probe to find out who enrolled these men for the scheme. "The govt initiates CBI or ED probe even in smaller allegations. It should now announce a CBI probe to find out the contractor, who enrolled these men for the scheme." Reacting to the issue, Ajit Pawar, who also holds the finance portfolio, said, "There is no reason to include any man among the beneficiaries. If there are such men, we will recover the amount they received so far. If they do not cooperate, we will have to take strict action against them." He said, "The Ladki Bahin scheme is exclusively for women from the economically weaker section. During the scrutiny of beneficiaries of the scheme, some women were found getting money through the scheme despite having jobs. Their names have been removed." State women and child development minister Aditi Tatkare posted a message on her X handle on Saturday night mentioning that the IT department's data showed 26.34 lakh beneficiaries of the Ladki Bahin scheme were not eligible for it. "In some cases, men had also applied. The benefits of all these beneficiaries have been temporarily suspended. Based on district collectors' reports, benefits of the eligible people would be resumed," Tatkare wrote.

Probe Agency Raids Against Anil Ambani Firms Continue For Third Day: Report

Mumbai: Enforcement Directorate searches against the companies of Reliance Group chairman Anil Ambani in Mumbai continued for the third day on Saturday, with the agency recovering a number of documents and computer peripherals from multiple locations, official sources said. The raids were launched on Thursday by the federal probe agency as part of an alleged Rs 3,000 crore bank loan fraud-linked money laundering case, apart from multiple other allegations of financial irregularities with crores of rupees by certain companies. The searches, being conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), are continuing at some of the more than 35 premises that were covered in Mumbai since Thursday, the sources said. These premises belong to 50 companies and 25 people, including a number of executives of the Anil Ambani Group companies. ED sources had said the investigation primarily pertains to allegations of illegal loan diversion of around Rs 3,000 crore, given by the Yes Bank to the group companies of Anil Ambani between 2017-2019. Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure, two companies of the group, had on Thursday informed the stock exchanges saying while they acknowledge the action, the raids had "absolutely no impact" on their business operations, financial performance, shareholders, employees, or any other stakeholders. "The media reports appear to pertain to allegations concerning transactions of Reliance Communications Limited (RCOM) or Reliance Home Finance Limited (RHFL) which are over 10 years old," the companies had said. The ED, the sources had said, has found that just before the loan was granted, Yes Bank promoters "received" money in their concerns. The agency is investigating this nexus of "bribe" and the loan. The sources said the ED is also probing allegations of "gross violations" in Yes Bank loan approvals to these companies, including charges like back-dated credit approval memorandums, investments proposed without any due diligence/credit analysis in violation of banks credit policy. The loans are alleged to have been "diverted" to many group companies and "shell" (bogus) companies by the entities involved. The agency is also looking at some instances of loans given to entities with weak financials, lack of proper documentation of loans and due diligence, borrowers having common addresses and common directors in their companies etc., the sources said. The money laundering case stems from at least two CBI FIRs and reports shared by the National Housing Bank, SEBI, National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) and Bank of Baroda with the ED, they said. These reports indicate, the sources said, that there was a "well-planned and thought after scheme" to divert or siphon off public money by cheating banks, shareholders, investors and other public institutions. 'Fraud' Classification The Union government had informed the Parliament recently that the State Bank of India has classified RCOM along with Ambani as 'fraud' and was also in the process of lodging a complaint with the CBI. A bank loan "fraud" of more than Rs 1,050 crore between RCOM and Canara Bank is also under the scanner of the ED apart from some "undisclosed" foreign bank accounts and assets, the sources said. Reliance Mutual fund is also stated to have invested Rs 2,850 crore in AT-1 bonds and a "quid pro quo" is suspected here by the agency. Additional Tier 1 (AT-1) are perpetual bonds issued by banks to increase their capital base and they are riskier than traditional bonds having higher interest rates. An alleged loan fund diversion of about Rs 10,000 crore involving Reliance Infrastructure too is under the scanner of the agency. A Sebi report on RHFL is also part of the ED probe. The companies also said in their filings before the stock exchanges that Anil Ambani was not on the Board of either Reliance Power or Reliance Infrastructure and that they had no "business or financial linkage" to RCOM or RHFL. Any action taken against RCOM or RHFL, the companies said, has no bearing or impact on the governance, management, or operations of either Reliance Power or Reliance Infrastructure.
