Citing some reports, Supriya said nearly 14,000 men were found in the list of beneficiaries of the Ladki Bahin scheme introduced in August 2024, and nearly Rs21 crore was disbursed to them.
Interacting with reporters in Pune, Supriya demanded a CBI probe to find out who enrolled these men for the scheme. "The govt initiates CBI or ED probe even in smaller allegations. It should now announce a CBI probe to find out the contractor, who enrolled these men for the scheme."
Reacting to the issue, Ajit Pawar, who also holds the finance portfolio, said, "There is no reason to include any man among the beneficiaries. If there are such men, we will recover the amount they received so far. If they do not cooperate, we will have to take strict action against them."
He said, "The Ladki Bahin scheme is exclusively for women from the economically weaker section. During the scrutiny of beneficiaries of the scheme, some women were found getting money through the scheme despite having jobs.
Their names have been removed."
State women and child development minister Aditi Tatkare posted a message on her X handle on Saturday night mentioning that the IT department's data showed 26.34 lakh beneficiaries of the Ladki Bahin scheme were not eligible for it. "In some cases, men had also applied. The benefits of all these beneficiaries have been temporarily suspended. Based on district collectors' reports, benefits of the eligible people would be resumed," Tatkare wrote.

Supreme Court refuses to defer Lalu Prasad Yadav's trial in land-for-jobs case

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to defer Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's trial in the land-for-jobs case. It said his petition before the Delhi high court challenging the summons against him will not become 'infructuous' if the trial court frames charges against him. Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. (PTI) On July 18, the Supreme Court refused to stay the trial in a Delhi court even as it exempted him from appearing before it. In his fresh plea heard on Wednesday, Yadav sought deferment of trial until August 12, when the high court will examine his petition challenging the summons issued to him in the case the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered against him in 2022. Land was allegedly gifted or transferred to Yadav's family members and associates for appointments made during his tenure as the railway minister from 2004 to 2009. Yadav argued the CBI's first information report (FIR) is not maintainable as it was filed without the Central government's sanction under the Prevention of Corruption Act, which shields public servants from unnecessary prosecution for acts in an official capacity. On May 29, the high court issued notice on Yadav's petition to the CBI and posted the matter for hearing on August 12. It refused to stay the trial. The Supreme Court upheld the refusal on July 18. Yadav then requested the high court to advance the hearing of his petition or defer the trial, which is at the stage of framing of charges. A bench of justices MM Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh refused to interfere when the matter came up before them a second time on Wednesday. Advocate Mudit Gupta, appearing for Yadav, requested the court to adjourn the case as senior advocate Kapil Sibal was busy. Additional solicitor general SV Raju, who appeared for CBI, called Yadav's petition an abuse of law. He alleged attempts were being made to impede the trial. 'Heavy cost should be imposed on filing of such a petition,' Raju said. The bench declined the request.

Court seeks Rhea Chakraborty's response to the CBI closure report in Sushant Singh Rajput's death case, till August 12

Sushant Singh Rajput passed away on June 14, 2020 but investigation was going on surrounding it as the actor's family suspected a foul play in his death. However the CBI ( Central Bureau of Investigation ) filed a closure report in this case and gave a clean chit to Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty in March this year. Now as per the latest update on the matter, a Mumbai court has issued a notice to Rhea, thus seeking her response to the closure report filed by the CBI. According to PTI, Earlier this month, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate R D Chavan, handling the case at the Esplanade court, issued a notice to the original complainant or victim, Chakraborty. While hearing the case, Magistrate R D Chavan directed, "Issue notice to the original informant / victim / aggrieved person," and postponed the proceedings until it is confirmed that Chakraborty has received the notice. She has been given time to respond by August 12. The notice is a procedural step that allows the complainant a chance to challenge the investigating agency's decision to close the case. Rhea had originally filed a complaint in this case against Sushant Singh Rajput's sisters — Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh — as well as Dr. Tarun Nathu Ram. She accused them of helping Rajput get prescription medicines without proper medical supervision. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Test Test Tabbola Undo According to the actress, Rajput had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and often stopped taking his medication.
