Springbok newcomer Vincent Tshituka to finally realise rugby dream
Vincent Tshituka just wanted to be in the race, and now he is finally approaching the finish line. He's set to realise his dream of playing for the Springboks in Saturday's first international of the season when the world champions clash with the Barbarians in Cape Town.
The match is not an official Test and he won't win a first cap, but it should be the start of a Bok career that was probably delayed by a few years due to circumstances out of the big flanker's control.
Ever since his impressive performances for the Lions a few years ago, before he moved to the Sharks and continued his fine form, there had been rumblings about the Democratic Republic of Congo born Tshituka donning the green and gold.
But over the past few years he has been in a long running saga to obtain South African citizenship, despite having lived in the country since he was four, and once he finally achieved that it was then about receiving his passport, which finally made him eligible to be selected for the Boks.
The 26-year-old has thus finally gotten out of the starting blocks and will hope to make a big impact in his first outing for the national team over the weekend.
Getting the passport
'It was something I tried to get for quite a while, and everybody asked me that question. My response was always, 'getting the passport doesn't put me in the squad, there's still a selection process',' said Tshituka at the team announcement on Tuesday when asked about his journey.
'After a good season, people were saying, 'Ja, you're going to play for the Springboks, you're going to make it'. But that was always the best-case scenario for me, and I tried to put it on the back burner.
'For me, it was just, let me get the passport, let me be eligible to be in the race (to be selected), because without it, I was never in the race. I felt like that was just the ticket to participate, and then being selected for a Test match is winning a medal.'
Although his first assignment for the Boks is to front up against some recent legends of the game, who are coming towards the end of their careers, Tshituka hasn't really focused on the Barbarians too much, but more on himself.
'To be honest with you, I haven't even thought about the players I'm facing. No disrespect to them and how they are feeling ahead of this game, but I must still take in how I feel and what I am going through,' he explained.
'My moment is where I want to be present, and I will keep my mind focused on that. It will be an emotional game for them (the Barbarians players), because it is at the back end of their careers. However, I must get over the emotion and get stuck in.
'The Green and Gold is everything to me and my family, who have supported me along this journey. That is already a big enough occasion.'

Brad Binder's steady progress towards regaining his best MotoGP form continued with a solid points haul at his Red Bull KTM's team home race in Austria at the weekend. Disaster struck when another rider forced him off the track. Missing a wing after the incident, he fought back bravely. His seventh place meant KTM finished with three bikes in the top seven after Pedro Acosta and Enea Bastianini finished fourth and fifth respectively. 'I didn't get a good start but made some moves and was up to fifth. I was then sent into the fans by another rider and lost a few seconds there and one of my wings. It was a long race,' Binder added. 'I felt like I put up a good fight and did all I could. We got seventh today but the potential was there for more.' The Ducati man moved up to 418 points to stretch his lead to 142 over his brother Alex. Ruché Moodley, who made a comeback from injury for the second time in his debut Moto3 season, finished outside the points in 17th place. MotoGP moves to Hungary this weekend for the second part of the double header.

Rassie to rethink make-up of Bok team for second Test against Wallabies
The Springboks are set to make some changes to their side for the second Wallabies Test, with Cheslin Kolbe and Damian de Allende expected to be back. Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus says they will need to change their lineup ahead of the second Rugby Championship Test against the Wallabies in Cape Town, after a disastrous first Test at Ellis Park over the weekend. The Aussies stunned a packed Jozi crowd, recovering from a 22-0 deficit after just 18 minutes, to score six unanswered tries to pick up a full house of points, and clinch their first win at the iconic ground in the professional era, and just second in their history after their only other win in 1963. It is an incredible turnaround from the men from Down Under, after they were thumped 33-7 and 30-12 on their home turf by the Boks a year ago. Speaking to the media after the match on Saturday, Erasmus said the coaches had to look at themselves before the players, and said that the team would accept any negative feedback coming their way after a dismal effort. 'I can sit here and say they beat us in most departments. As coaches, we got it terribly wrong, and we must look at ourselves before we point fingers at the players,' said Erasmus. 'A player doesn't just do what he wants out there, we guide them and we pick the combinations. If it doesn't work, maybe the combinations were wrong, maybe the plans were wrong, maybe the half-time talk was terrible. 'From now until next Saturday, we'll take a lot of flak. We take the credit when we are doing well, so we must take the flak when we're doing badly. We're very disappointed, and feeling bad for our supporters and our players.' Team changes Erasmus said that the team for the game at the Cape Town Stadium had already been announced internally, but that it was likely to change due to the result on the Highveld. Is Springboks' Rugby Championship title defence already over?
Before the opening round of the Rugby Championship, the Springboks would have been widely expected to secure a bonus-point victory over the Wallabies at Ellis Park to start their title defence with momentum and confidence. Instead, the Springboks are reeling from a shock defeat, which also saw them fail to even collect a losing bonus-point. By contrast, the All Blacks secured a full five log points with a big win in Argentina. The Springboks now simply have to bounce back in their 'rematch' against Australia this weekend, but even if they can achieve this, they will then need to navigate extremely challenging fixtures against arch-rivals New Zealand. Besides the improvements the All Blacks have made over the last year, they will also be excited by the prospect of facing the Springboks at their home fortresses in Auckland and Wellington. From there, the Springboks will welcome Argentina to Durban before finishing the tournament against the same opposition in London, where this neutral venue could add an air of unpredictability to proceedings.
