Indonesian President Prabowo urges budget reform, deregulation to spur economic growth
JAKARTA: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has called for reforms in state revenues, stricter control of the budget deficit, and focused spending on priority sectors, aiming to make the state budget a driving force for economic growth, a minister said in a statement issued on Wednesday (July 23). In a fiscal policy meeting held at the State Palace that concluded on Tuesday night, Prabowo emphasised the need for deregulatory measures to foster a conducive business climate and promote sustainable economic growth, according to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati. "The president's directives are very comprehensive. Reforms on the state revenue side will continue so that we can ensure adequate state revenue. Spending will be focused on key programs," she stated. PETALING JAYA: Fertility care specialist Alpha IVF Group Bhd has opened its second satellite clinic in Surabaya, Indonesia, its second in the country. The expansion forms part of the group's initial public offering roadmap to establish four satellite clinics in Indonesia, strengthening its regional growth strategy and deepening its footprint in the country, which is one of the group's fastest-growing international markets. Group managing director Datuk Dr Colin Lee Soon Soo said Surabaya was strategically chosen to expand the company's reach into East and Central Java, where it sees strong potential for growth in fertility treatment. 'Our first satellite clinic in Jakarta began showing results in less than three months of operations, which gives us strong confidence in the scalability and effectiveness of our satellite model. 'We believe the Surabaya clinic will build on this momentum and further increase patient referrals to our flagship centres in Malaysia,' he said in a statement. The new clinic is strategically located within the Womba Women's and Children Specialist Clinic in Surabaya. Situatedin the heart of East Java, Surabaya – the second largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta – was selected to meet the growing demand for assisted reproductive services across the region, including nearby urban centres such as Solo, Semarang and Yogyakarta. The clinic will serve as a key referral and patient coordination centre, offering initial consultations and fertility assessments, while seamlessly connecting patients to Alpha IVF's flagship centres in Malaysia for comprehensive treatment. Alpha IVF's first Indonesian satellite clinic, located in Pantai Indah Kapuk, Jakarta, commenced operations in May and has already shown encouraging results. In less than three months, 29 couples have been referred to the group's Malaysia-based centres, demonstrating early validation of the group's regional strategy. Alpha IVF expects its Indonesia-based satellite clinics, including those in Jakarta and Surabaya, to make a meaningful contribution to cross-border patient volume and revenue growth. Police cripple lottery scam syndicate, seven arrested
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismantled a lottery scam syndicate believed to be involved in at least 15 cases across several states. The group has duped multiple victims of nearly RM200,000 to date. Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said seven individuals were arrested during six separate raids around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor on July 4. "The syndicate allegedly preyed on victims by posing as lottery winners, offering to share prize money before tricking them into handing over valuables and ATM cards. "Those arrested include a local man, two Indonesian men and two Indonesian women believed to be the main suspects, along with two other locals, a gold shop owner and a salesperson," Rusdi said today. He said the group would ask their victims for help in directing them to the nearest lottery shop so that they could collect their winnings. "They would promise to share RM15,000 of their winnings in exchange for their help," he said.
