Retired David Letterman Surprises Local 'Nite Show' Audience

Entrepreneur14-05-2025
Danny Cashman, 47, has been hosting "The Nite Show" at Husson University in Bangor, Maine, for 15 years. The local program airs on several Maine television stations on Saturday nights (and has a YouTube channel). It's set up like a traditional late-night variety show, with an in-house band, an opening monologue, sketches, interviews with live guests, and musical performances.
Cashman's top inspiration for his show was "The Late Show with David Letterman," according to the Portland Press Herald, and he's asked the now-retired Letterman, 78, to be a guest on his program for many years. On Saturday night, it finally happened.

Dubbed a "mystery guest," no one in the audience knew Letterman was actually going to appear. So it was a huge surprise when he walked out and joined Cashman at his desk to be his final live guest for one of the last episodes.
"This is a self-made man," Letterman said, after receiving a standing ovation from the crowd and sitting down in the guest chair. "This is the product of his life for the last 20 years."
Despite being a local program airing against NBC's Saturday Night Live, Cashman told Letterman that his show has remarkably high ratings during the time slot. Still, Cashman said it was time to put down the microphone. (He told News Center Maine that it just felt like "the time was right to do some other things.")
"This is no small accomplishment, because I'm guessing this is not network supported, it has not been syndicated supported, I have great admiration for what you've done," Letterman said.
Letterman also talked about the struggles he has faced since leaving his own show.
"It's not easy, it took me quite a long time to break the daily routine," Letterman said. "Now people treat me differently."
Here's the full episode.

Grimm Reboot: Elizabeth Tulloch Offers ‘Exciting' Update on Potential Peacock Series — Would She Return?

It's been seven months since news first broke of a Grimm reboot being developed at Peacock, and we've been practically woging with anticipation ever since. So when TVLine recently connected with original series star Elizabeth Tulloch, we couldn't resist asking for an update, and the woman formerly known as Juliette (or Eve, depending on the day) was happy to oblige. More from TVLine Suzanne Rogers Exiting Days of Our Lives...?! Rep Addresses Wild Rumor Peyton Meyer Exits Days of Our Lives: Did Doug Williams Redeem Himself Before Leaving Salem? Days of Our Lives Snags Two-Season Renewal at Peacock, Keeping It Streaming Through 2028 'I know there's a script being written, and I know that David [Giuntoli] met with them,' Tulloch tells us. 'I don't think they would do a reboot or a spinoff or whatever it's going to be without David's involvement.' Grimm originally aired for six seasons (2011–2017) on NBC, starring Giuntoli as Nick Burkhardt, a detective who descends from a long line of Grimms — aka slayers of fairytale monsters known as Wesen. 'It's pretty exciting,' Tulloch says of the show's still-growing fanbase, which she attributes to the show's multiple streaming homes. 'A lot of people are sort of finding Grimm. We did 123 episodes, and it has like 90% on Rotten Tomatoes still.' As for whether Tulloch would like to reprise one or both of her roles in a potential continuation of Grimm… you'll have to watch the interview: In addition to Giuntoli and Tulloch, Grimm also starred Claire Coffee, Russell Hornsby, Silas Weir Mitchell, Bree Turner, Reggie Lee, Sasha Roiz and Jacqueline Toboni. The series was created by David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, who also served as co-showrunners. Both are reportedly involved in Peacock's potential reboot, along with original series producers Lynn Kouf, Hazy Mills Productions and Universal Television. Josh Berman (Drop Dead Diva, CSI, The Blacklist) is writing and executive-producing the new series. At the time of the original report, a rep for Peacock told TVLine that it had no additional information to share. Hit PLAY on the video above to watch TVLine's interview with Tulloch, then drop a comment with your dream project below. Are you hoping for a direct continuation in which Nick passes the torch to a new Grimm? Or perhaps you'd rather get a spinoff following specific characters?
