Euphoric Napoli fans flood streets for champions tour by land and sea
Naples erupted with joy on Friday evening as Napoli sealed the Scudetto with a 2-0 home win over Cagliari, turning the city upside down in a blaze of fireworks, flares and unfiltered euphoria as celebrations lit up the night sky.
The party rolled on into Monday as a ship carrying the team and the trophy docked at the port of Naples, where two open-top buses awaited to take the champions on a triumphant drive through the city before returning to the ship to continue the celebrations into the night.
After winning the title two years ago, the club were not able to have an open bus parade but a million people are expected on the streets this time.
For Napoli's top scorer in Serie A, Romelu Lukaku, the celebration turned emotional as he marked his second Scudetto — having lifted the trophy with Inter Milan in 2021.
"Too much emotion, we did a great job and I'm happy for all these people, as well as for us, the team, the club and the coach. We never gave up and we deserved this success," the Belgian striker told Rai from the bus.
Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka also relished the atmosphere.
"I'm very happy to be able to celebrate with these fans, for me they are as spectacular as the city and the team. This is Naples," he said.

Former Tour de France, Vuelta stage winner Woods to retire at end of season
Canadian Michael "Rusty" Woods, a former stage winner at the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana, has announced he will retire from professional road cycling at the end of the season, bringing to a close a career spanning over a decade. While announcing his retirement, he spoke of the toll his career has taken on his health and family life. "For the past five years, I have avoided giving my kids kisses when I pick them up from school in an attempt to prevent getting sick before a race. That is strange. More often than not, I sleep in another room, separate from my family, in an effort to optimize my sleep," Woods said in a statement on Monday. "Every aspect of my life has been examined and studied to maximize my ability to ride a bike. That all-encompassing pursuit I have loved and have no regrets doing, but it is something that can only be sustained for so long. "Considering I started this sport at 25 years old, on $1,000 bike gifted to me by my parents, knowing nothing about it, is insane. I thought, 'I was once one of the best runners in the world—why can't I be one of the best cyclists in the world?'" Woods, who won bronze at the World Championships in 2018, said he still has ambitions in endurance sports. "As they say, though, all good things must come to an end... I have made the decision to retire from professional road cycling at the end of this season," he added.

Guirassy goal sends Dortmund past Essen in German Cup
ESSEN, Germany -Borussia Dortmund needed a superb finish by forward Serhou Guirassy in the 79th minute to break the resistance of third-division club Rot-Weiss Essen and earn a nervous 1-0 victory in the German Cup on Monday. Dortmund, who start their Bundesliga season on Saturday with a trip to St Pauli, held on to their slim lead despite late pressure from the hosts, to advance to the second round. But they saw defender Yan Couto injured in second half stoppage time after a rough challenge from Kelsey Owusu.
