Sharjah to grant over Dh9 million in annual bonuses to owners of old taxi licence plates in 2024
Owner of old taxi licence plates in Sharjah can look forward to a promising 2025, with the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) unveiling an exciting bonus initiative.
The authority on Saturday revealed that a total of Dh9,372,000 will be allocated as an annual bonus for owners of old taxi plates for the year 2024. This reward will be distributed among eligible recipients.
This initiative comes in accordance with the directives of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and the Ruler of Sharjah.
In a related development, the Sharjah Police recently launched new vehicle number plates featuring a modern design and enhanced quality. Vehicle owners will have the opportunity to replace their old plates with the updated versions starting March 3.
This update is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance the services offered to both citizens and residents in Sharjah.

SRTA launches ‘On-Demand Buses' service in Sharjah
Flexible, direct mobility solution This innovative service offers passengers a flexible and direct mode of transport from their homes to their daily destinations, particularly in areas not fully served by the current public bus network. It promotes the concept of an integrated transport system across the emirate. Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, chairman of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), emphasised the need for a flexible, sustainable public transport system in light of Sharjah's rapid urban and population expansion. The On-Demand Buses service reflects SRTA's vision for reducing private vehicle use, thereby lowering congestion and carbon emissions. Enhancing quality of life through smart transport Al Othmani added that public transport is central to improving quality of life and mobility within the emirate. SRTA continues to invest in modern transport technologies and expand smart services for all while committing to a safe and sustainable transport environment that aligns with Sharjah's strategic vision for a more balanced and prosperous urban future. Affordable, smart and user-friendly The first phase includes two buses operating daily from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, with a nominal fare of AED 8 per trip. Children under five travel for free. Users can request and track buses in real time via a smart app, which also allows for cashless payments and instant quality feedback. The system enables users to set their pick-up and drop-off points without being restricted to fixed bus stops or schedules, offering flexibility tailored to residents' and visitors' needs. The service facilitates convenient travel from residential areas to daily destinations, including commercial centres, restaurants, service facilities, and workplaces—reducing dependence on private cars and improving overall accessibility. Smart features Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, Director of Transport Affairs at SRTA, stated that buses are equipped with internal surveillance cameras to ensure a safe travel environment. Linked to AI systems, the buses collect real-time data on passenger numbers, demographics, and usage patterns, enabling data-driven decision-making for improved operations and future planning. The buses are also equipped to accommodate people of determination, with features that ensure easy boarding and movement. The launch coincided with the Eid Al-Adha holidays—an ideal time due to increased travel activity. The initiative is part of SRTA's long-term strategy for a scalable, smart, and sustainable transport network. The first phase will be evaluated to guide potential expansion to other areas in the future, in line with SRTA's mission to improve quality of life and ensure accessible mobility for all.

55th Watch and Jewellery ME Show concludes with 87000 visitors
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the five-day exhibition attracted more than 87,000 visitors, marking 9 percent increase compared to the previous edition. This reinforces the exhibition's status as one of the largest and most significant gold and jewellery trade exhibitions in the UAE and the region. The 55th Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show featured the participation of over 500 local and international exhibitors, representing high-end brands in gold, diamonds, and luxury watches, in addition to 1,800 high-profile designers, manufacturers, and industry professionals. Occupying an expansive 30,000 square metres, the exhibition marked the debut participation of several international participants from Russia, Mexico, Tanzania, and Egypt. It also saw the presence of an elite group of leading jewellery and watchmakers from both local and global markets. Key exhibiting countries include the UAE, India, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore, China, Japan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Lebanon. The 55th edition presented a set of exclusive jewellery pieces and culturally inspired international designs officially recognised by Guinness World Records. You can now pay for parking using your Salik account
Salik is offering ticketless parking to residents of Deira Enrichment Project… In the latest from a slew of road network and parking updates in the city, Salik has now introduced ticketless parking for residents and visitors of the Deira Enrichment Project. A new ticketless system implemented through Salik's partner firm Parkonic will allow some residents to enter and exit parking zones using their vehicle licence plates as digital tickets. No need for physical tickets or payment apps. Residents can have a yearly membership through Parkonic's app, costing Dhs5,000. Surprisingly, visitors can also have an annual membership, albeit a little pricier, for Dhs7,500, both of these prices excluding a five per cent value-added tax. Including VAT, an hourly parking costs Dh5 and Dh25 for overnight, including VAT across eleven districts. Parkonic, like Parkin, is one of the largest private parking operators in the UAE. Salik has collaborated with them to enhance parking and payment systems across the UAE by eliminating the need for apps and tickets and using Salik's e-wallet system. According to a report by Khaleej Times, the partnership is based on a five-year contract, during which the collaboration will result in the integration of Salik's e-Wallet into 107-plus locations under it's operation and any future locations it may operate in the UAE. Earlier this year, Salik introduced variable toll pricing. The new dynamic pricing applies for all days of the year, except Ramadan, which will have separate rates, and was implemented starting January 31, allowing motorists to travel toll free in certain passages of time in the day. Adjustments have been made according to peak and non-peak weekdays, the toll sits at Dhs6 during morning peak hours (6am to 10am) and evening peak hours (4pm to 8pm). During off-peak hours, between 10am and 4pm, and from 8pm to 1am, the toll is Dhs4.
