"What inspired me was hearing my doctor tell me that I wouldn't be around much longer," Jaz, 41, exclusively told Parade. "And it scared me because of my daughter. I have a 10-year-old daughter, and my daughter has autism. And nobody's going to love your child like you."
Ultimately, Jaz said her goal is to be active and able to travel with her daughter, Nana.
"I want to be able to take her to Disney World. That's my ultimate goal. And to be able to walk around and ride the rides with her."
Jaz qualified for and underwent weight loss surgery as a tool to help with her progress.
"It's definitely going to be a lot being shared this season," she explained. "A lot of emotion, a lot of happiness. Currently, I'm dealing with mobility issues. But it's getting better."
Meanwhile, Nesha, 37, has opted not to have the gastric bypass procedure.
"For me, I'm taking the natural route," she told Parade. "I'm terrified of surgery."
Nesha continued, "For me, it's just more about, like, adapting more of a lifestyle change than a diet. And just taking those baby steps to, like, you know, like, stop drinking soda and stop drinking too much sugar and no more fried foods."
So, what else can viewers expect from Season 1 of 1000-Lb Roomies?
"It's definitely a lot of silliness," Jaz said, adding with a completely deadpan expression, "And Nesha tried to kill me."
She elaborated, "Nesha tried to push me in a wheelchair and almost made me fall out."
After laughing, Nesha defended herself, explaining, "Listen, I thought I was stronger than I am, OK? I had like this false sense of confidence, and it just didn't work out for me.
"I almost died," Jaz insisted.
During their chat with Parade, Jaz and Nesha also touched on their reality TV experience—specifically as Black women sharing their stories.
"I'm super grateful for TLC to even like think about us, really, because not everybody gets the opportunity to have such a large platform to share their story," Nesha said.
"It's kind of a catch-22 thing, because it's like, yeah, everybody's in my business," she continued. "But at the same time, I feel like both of our stories are very powerful, and they can help someone."
"It also adds to the fact that we're Black women," Jaz added. "TLC's giving us that chance. And us being able to, you know, show like how strong we are."
"I think that's one of the biggest feedback that we get, is that, 'Oh, you guys are Black,'" Nesha shared. "But everybody is kind of shocked and excited at the same time that we got a little chocolate in the sea."
Through it all, the besties have supported each other every step of the way.
Jaz explained, "Whatever it is that I'm going through, whether it's a high or a low, Nesha's there to back me up each time."
Catch the series premiere of 1000-Lb Roomies on Tuesday, June 3 at 10 p.m. ET on TLC and streaming the next day on HBO Max.

Prince William and Kate Think They've Found 'Their Forever Home'
Prince William and Kate Think They've Found 'Their Forever Home' originally appeared on Parade. Prince William and Kate Middleton have made a major move with their family, and now it seems the couple is ready to really put down roots in a new space. The royals 'believe they have found their forever home, a place to build new happy memories' after moving from their current four-bedroom space at Adelaide Cottage, according People. Their family — which includes Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 — are moving to an eight-bedroom property called Forest Lodge. Forest Lodge sits on the same expansive compound as Adelaide Cottage, a space near Windsor Castle called Windsor Great Park. The parklands are massive and take up a whopping 4,800 acres of land near the famous royal residence. According to the outlet, the family plans to make the move ahead of the Christmas holidays, and see the change of scenery as 'a chance for a new start after the most challenging of periods for the couple' despite the fact that 'they have been happy at Adelaide Cottage, where they and their three children have been able to put down roots.' In fact, William, 43, even went as far as to call 2024 'a brutal year' for his family during an appearance in Cape Town, South Africa last November, which is an obvious nod to Middleton, 43, and her struggle with cancer, as well as King Charles' own cancer diagnosis. 'It's been dreadful. It's probably been the hardest year in my life.' 'Trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult,' the prince explained. 'But I'm so proud of my wife, I'm proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it's been, yeah, it's been brutal.' The initial move to Adelaide Cottage in September 2022 from their previous residence at Kensington Palace in London was a strategic one. 'The couple hoped it would be a good base to see if they liked living in Windsor,' People reports. 'And could make it work as a base as senior members of the royal family, with the duties and commitments they have to balance with their family life.' According to the publication, living in the Windsor compound rather than at the Palace in London — which they still maintain as a home base in the city — has allowed the couple to build a sense of normalcy for their children. It has allowed them to be present for school drop-offs and pick-ups, and they have opted to go without live-in staff since moving to the compound, which obviously creates a real sense of closeness within the family. The outlet also noted that the couple plans to keep living at their new residence when they become king and queen. Ultimately, the royals are happy about this change because 'the new move enables them to not only cement their life in Windsor for the long term, but also to leave some of those unhappy associations behind them.' FDA Warns Potentially Radioactive Shrimp Sold at Walmart in 13 States
FDA Warns Potentially Radioactive Shrimp Sold at Walmart in 13 States originally appeared on Parade. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an urgent advisory to consumers about certain frozen shrimp products that may be contaminated with a radioactive substance, prompting a voluntary recall at Walmart stores. The alert centers on Great Value brand Frozen Raw Ez Peel Tail-On Farm-Raised White Vannamei Shrimp sold in 2-pound bags. This recall specifically involves lots coded 8005540-1, 8005538-1, and 8005539-1, all stamped with a best-by date of March 15, 2027. According to the FDA, the products were distributed to Walmart locations in 13 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, and West Virginia. The concern is the possible presence of Cesium-137 (Cs-137), a radioactive isotope. While it is rare for food to test positive for this contaminant, long-term exposure to Cs-137 has the potential to damage DNA and increase the risk of cancer. The FDA stresses that no shrimp testing positive for Cs-137 has made its way into the U.S. food supply, but the recall is being taken as a issue was flagged during routine inspections at several U.S. ports, including Los Angeles, Houston, Savannah, and Miami. U.S. Customs and Border Protection detected elevated radiation levels in shipping containers, which led to further investigation. The shrimp originated from PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS Foods) in Indonesia. The processor has now been placed on an FDA import alert for chemical contamination under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Officials believe the shrimp may have been stored or processed under unsanitary conditions that led to possible exposure. Investigators are still working with Indonesian regulators to determine whether the source of Cs-137 is tied to environmental contamination or mishandling during production. For consumers, the instructions are simple but critical: If you have purchased any of the affected shrimp, do not eat, cook, serve, or sell it. The safest action is to throw it away. Retailers and distributors have also been directed to remove any remaining stock from shelves. Walmart has confirmed that the products were available in the affected states and says it is fully cooperating with the FDA's recall process. Much of America's seafood comes from abroad, roughly 79%. The FDA routinely screens imported seafood for contaminants such as heavy metals, antibiotics, and now, radiation. While rare, cases like this highlight the need for strong food safety protocols and consumer awareness. Consumers can check Walmart's recall page or visit the FDA website for the latest updates. The advisory is precautionary, but it underscores the agency's vigilance in keeping potentially harmful products off American tables.
