The Indian government cited player safety as the priority, leaving Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh to contest for the title. Certain reports, however, suggest that the BCCI selection committee is keen to move on from the veteran duo and give youngsters a chance, in order to prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Some claim that the Australia series could be the last for Rohit and Kohli, though they can keep themselves afloat by returning to domestic cricket. The Vijay Hazare Trophy and India A games could be crucial for Kohli and Rohit if they are to extend their ODI careers and remain in contention for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
