Barcelona set to secure major sponsorship deal worth €40 million

Yahoo17-07-2025
FC Barcelona players returned to training this week, but activity behind the scenes at the club has never stopped.
Club executives have been working intensely to secure new revenue streams to address the current financial challenges, with a clear objective: to return to La Liga's 1:1 rule and regain full freedom to operate in the transfer market.
Sponsorship agreement in sight with Congo
Now, SPORT reports that Barcelona are closing in on finalising a sponsorship agreement worth €40 million with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Over the past few months, several meetings have taken place with potential sponsors to evaluate the feasibility of different commercial agreements. Many of these discussions have been ruled out for various reasons.
However, the deal with the Republic of the Congo has progressed well and is entering the final stages of negotiations.

The deal would see Barcelona include the slogan 'RDC, coeur de l'Afrique' (translates to DRC, the heart of Africa) on one of the club's kits.
On 19 May, the Congolese Minister of Sports and Leisure, Didier Budimbu, visited Barcelona and held a meeting with senior club executives.
Accompanied by his team, he also toured the Ciutat Esportiva facilities and personally presented the project, which was received with interest by the Barcelona board.
The agreement is expected to bring approximately €40 million into the club's finances. According to the report, negotiations are in an advanced stage, and an official announcement could be made as early as next week, before the start of the pre-season tour.
The revenue will be a big boost for the La Liga champions as they aim to return to the 1:1 Fair Play rule, which will allow them to operate with greater freedom in the market.

Gethin Jones suffering after witnessing 'absolute spectacle' while on break from BBC Morning Live

Welsh TV presenter Gethin Jones has admitted he's 'feeling a bit dusty' after what he described as an unforgettable night for Welsh sport, watching two huge wins unfold back-to-back. The BBC Morning Live star is currently in Melbourne, where he caught both the Wales Women's rugby victory over Australia and the British & Irish Lions' dramatic series-clinching win at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) - a night he dubbed an 'absolute spectacle'. Taking to Instagram, Gethin shared his excitement and also hinted at the celebrations that followed. Watching the women's @welshrugbyunion beat Australia… and then the absolute spectacle at the @mcg – @britishandirishlions clinch the series in dramatic fashion! 'Hats off them! (Wish I had) A bit dusty this morning!' Their win was partly down to Jac Morgan, who helped secure their dramatic win by clearing out Australia's Carlo Tizzano at the breakdown in the dying moments, allowing the team to retain possession and set up Hugo Keenan's match-winning try. You can read more about this here. Gethin is a passionate supporter of Welsh sport and often shares updates from matches, training camps, and major fixtures. But even by his own standards, Saturday night seemed like a night to remember, as Wales Women also stunned the Wallaroos in a nail biting game before the Lions sealed their series. Gethin shared a picture of himself in the crowd alongside some friends, as well as a selfie taken in a bar, with him and two others all beaming at the camera. It's been a busy week for the Welsh presenter, as he visited Cardiff just a few weeks ago to talk about his new role as the Chef de Mission for Team Wales ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Speaking about his latest venture, he said: 'To be trusted in this role is a huge responsibility and the focus I've seen in the last few months since I've come on board has been mind-blowing. 'Everyone striving for excellence from performance to organisational operations and everything in between has been amazing.' He continued: 'When I see someone achieve their very best performance, when it really matters under pressure, that's what inspires me. 'That will go with us into Glasgow, and of course as it has been the case for the last few cycles as well, what truly matters is how we hold ourselves.' A New 'Golden Generation'? FOX Sports Crew Discuss Spain's Recent Dominance

Does it feel Spain has been at the center of the soccer world in recent years? Between its men's and women's teams, La Roja has certainly been the sport's major force. Part of the reason for women's team dominance has been star players playing a lot of games together across club and country. Star duo Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmatí have led Barcelona to two Champions League titles in 2023 and 2024. "There's a lot of Barça players on this pitch, they're familiar with each other," said FOX Sports analyst Ari Hingst, who won four Euro titles and three World Cups with Germany. "You know the running patterns, six of them are in the starting XI today, and that definitely helps." FOX Sports analyst and U.S. women's team legend Carli Lloyd pointed to Spain's midfield as the catalyst for their success. "I look at the Spanish midfielders as the best midfielders in the world. They provide linkup play for one another," Lloyd said. "I look at it as the golden generation like Barcelona men's players - Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets - it's amazing to see." Spain is aiming for its first Euro title – and its third straight trophy – on Sunday, having already defeated England at the 2023 Women's World Cup. The team has also won the 2024 Nations League crown. As for the men's team, they'll be among the favorites next year at the 2026 World Cup (watch all games on FOX). Behind teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, the team has also had recent success with winning the 2023 Nations League and 2024 Euro. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
