Mercato: Iñaki Williams slams Barça while defending his brother Nico
Iñaki Williams, the older brother of Nico Williams, opened up to the press in recent hours. The Ghana international didn't hold back when it came to FC Barcelona.
Initially rumored to be on the verge of joining FC Barcelona at the start of the summer transfer window, Nico Williams ultimately extended his contract with Bilbao until 2035. This news brought a smile to his brother Iñaki's face. The Ghanaian was asked about the situation during a press conference.
"On a family level, it's been a bit complicated because there's been a lot of talk about my brother, and much of what has been said about Nico is false. He simply kept silent. Everyone has the right to think about their future. This summer, people have often been unfair to my brother (…) My brother's decision was not easy. His maturity is incredible. He had a wide range of options and he chose Athletic Bilbao. The club is making considerable progress. We have one of the best squads since I was twelve and joined the first team. He had a choice because he received many offers and a lot of clubs made bids for him. He's a top-level player (…) Many clubs made offers for him because he's a high-caliber player and his release clause could have been easily triggered. He was a gift from the heavens for the big clubs. It wasn't easy, because all the external noise could have made him hesitate, but he made the best decision. My brother was quite clear about his decision, but a long-term contract had to be established. Some events happened that caused a lot of harm, like the vandalism of the mural, the breaking of a car window… He made his decision with heart and ambition. He decided to stay with us and leave his legacy here, just like Julen Guerrero did in his time, and to be a role model for his desire to make his mark here.", he explained.
The Black Star continued, not sparing Barça, though he never mentioned them by name: "We all know how the football world works and the pressure they wanted to put on all Athletic supporters, on my brother… A media campaign that they probably thought would benefit them. At Athletic, when we want a player, we do it quietly. All this outside noise did a lot of damage and muddied the waters. Because a lot of what was said and leaked to the media or on social networks was false. My brother had made his decision, but a very long contract tying him until 2035 had to be finalized. It couldn't be made public overnight. Some incidents tarnished Athletic's objectives, like the two times the mural was vandalized, or when they went to my brother's place and smashed a car window… Things that are often unknown but weigh on the player and his decisions. It's very easy not to say or do anything when you're sitting on your couch, but when you're suffering personally, it's different. Seeing my brother suffer as Athletic's captain is not easy. Many teams wanted him when he was just 22. He stayed discreet, and I had to stop him several times because I saw things he didn't like. We had lots of calls and video conferences during that period. People at Athletic must understand that it's not easy to make a life-changing decision in such a short time. The decision was his alone. When he steps onto the pitch at San Mamés, he will receive immense affection."

Despite the recent troubles Barcelona have experienced with player registration, Rashford told reporters he is not worried about missing La Liga games because of it. "It's something for the club to sort out," Rashford said in a video posted on Spanish newspaper Sport's website on Aug. 3. "I believe they are going to get it sorted. I just focus on training and be ready for the start of the season." Rashford, who is still under contract at parent club Manchester United, made his move to Barcelona official on July 23. It marked his second loan stint of the year, as the Red Devils sent Rashford on loan to Aston Villa for the remainder of the 2024-25 Premier League season in early February. This time around, he will be with Barcelona for the full 2025-26 campaign. Soon after his loan went official, Rashford joined the squad on its Asia Tour. He made his debut for the Blaugrana in a 45-minute stint against FC Seoul on July 31 and then scored his first goal against Daegu FC four days later. Barcelona still have one more match on their summer calendar — a Joan Gamper Trophy exhibition match against Como. But after weeks of preseason training and friendlies, Rashford is excited for the season to come. "It's been a good preseason. It's been good to integrate into the team. I've enjoyed getting used to the team, used to the coach," Rashford said, via ESPN's Adriana Garcia. "There is a lot of great players, but I knew that before I came here. The quality is very high, the intensity is very high, and this is what we need to continue having throughout the season. "Hopefully, we can go one step further than last season and win the Champions League."

Sleeper Seahawks tweeted the highlights of his performance, which made them go semi-viral among Seahawks fan circles, to the tune of 63.6k Views in just under 24 hours. Those who remember the hype around Deion Sanders in his first year as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes will recall specifically how much coverage they received in the first month, while CU Boulder was still undefeated after pulling off a dramatic ranked win against No. 17 TCU and carving up one of their old-time Big XII rivals in Nebraska. Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders were just announcing themselves to the national stage as well, so few were surprised when ESPN brought College GameDay to Boulder, even though their cross-state rivals in the Colorado State Rams were unusual for the spotlight as a Group of 5 team. However, the Rams had several players who would use the platform to become stars and go on to get drafted as well. Mohamed Kamara made life hard for Shedeur Sanders and company on offense in this game, and now is in his second year with the Miami Dolphins, who drafted him in the 5th Round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Tory Horton caught 16 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown in this game, and truly exposed this Colorado team's notable weaknesses. He proved that despite all the momentum in the world, good teams are susceptible to a versatile receiver who can run the whole route tree. The same abilities that made him great in this game translate excellently to the NFL and fit perfectly in Klint Kubiak's new offense with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp. All three receivers have the ability to play inside and outside WR positions which allows for shifts and motions that our past receivers weren't as advantageous running. The only wish I have for Horton's season is that he stays healthy. He's received great reports all offseason about his ability and can be the next longtime Seahawk WR as long as he can hold up in his talented yet slender 6'2 1/2" 196lb frame, because his athletic testing otherwise is off the charts (see the percentiles on his Relative Athletic Score here):
