Columbia Road overpass closure begins May 19
May 17—GRAND FORKS — The Columbia Road overpass will be closed to all traffic beginning May 19 until October, with additional lane closures expected later this summer at 11th Avenue South.
The structure needs to be closed to allow the city to replace
the bearings that support the bridge deck
, according to information provided by the city. During the rehabilitation, the entire deck will be lifted so crews can access the bearings and replace them. The structure is around 30 years old and this is the first time that they've been replaced.
For most of the summer, Columbia Road will be closed from the DeMers Avenue ramps to Second Avenue North. Beginning in September, additional lane closures will come as the city connects a new stormwater sewer under the road.
That connection is part of the Vail Circle storm sewer improvement project. Work to improve the area's stormwater capacity began in 2018 when a forcemain was relocated as part of the new Altru Hospital. The project has received $7.7 million in federal funding for the building
of a new pump station and expansion of existing pump stations along 11th Avenue South.
The city is also building a parallel sewer to expand capacity.
Work has already begun along 11th Avenue South with lane closures expected throughout the summer. For most of the summer, traffic will still continue on Columbia Road until the final connection is made. When that connection is made will be reduced to one lane in each direction according to WFW Engineers, the company working on the project.
The bridge rehabilitation project in total costs $12 million, $4.9 million of which the city is paying, according to the city. The project began last year when the bridge was repainted. The Vail Circle project will cost $11.2 million total.

Amazon is reportedly training humanoid robots to deliver packages
Future Amazon orders may be delivered to your door by a humanoid robot workforce. The Information reports that Amazon is developing AI software that will enable robots to operate as package delivery workers that are ferried around in Rivian electric vans, and will soon be ready to start real-world testing at a new facility. Citing an anonymous source 'involved in the effort,' The Information says that Amazon has almost finished constructing an indoor 'humanoid park' at one of the retail giant's San Francisco offices that's roughly the size of a coffee shop. The obstacle course reportedly contains one Rivian van for training purposes, with Amazon aiming to have humanoid robots 'hitch a ride in the back of Amazon's electric Rivian vans and spring out to deliver packages.' The report coincides with Amazon launching a new agentic AI team to help develop technologies that will power robots 'operating in Amazon distribution and logistics hubs.' In a statement to Silicon Valley, Amazon says that 'instead of rigid, specialized robots, we're creating systems that can hear, understand, and act on natural language commands, turning warehouse robots into flexible, multi-talented assistants.' Amazon is already using a variety of autonomous robots in its warehouse operations, including a trial of Agility Robotics' humanoid 'Digit' — a robot that was originally pitched for tasks like sitting in the back of vans and delivering packages, alongside other logistics uses. Amazon's training facility is a concerted effort to make this original vision a reality. The Information reports that a 'variety' of humanoid robots will be tested for package delivery at its facility, including a $16,000 unit from China-based Unitree. Hundreds of thousands of people currently handle delivery operations at Amazon globally. Amazon acquired the robotaxi company Zoox in 2020, suggesting a desire to fully automate end-to-end package delivery, from the warehouse to your front door.

Nikesh Arora Joins Uber Board Amid Executive Reshuffle
"I'm honoured to join Uber's Board at such an exciting time, as the company plays a central role in commercialising autonomous mobility globally. Uber has already transformed how people and goods move through cities, and I look forward to supporting the company's continued growth," says Nikesh Arora, Chairman and CEO of Palo Alto Networks You're reading Entrepreneur India, an international franchise of Entrepreneur Media. Uber Technologies has announced that Nikesh Arora, Chairman and CEO of Palo Alto Networks, is joining its board of directors. The appointment was disclosed in a regulatory filing on Wednesday and comes as part of a significant leadership shakeup at the ride-hailing giant. This week, Uber saw the departure of Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, head of its delivery arm, after a 13-year tenure. In a move to consolidate leadership, Andrew Macdonald previously overseeing mobility has been promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer. This marks Uber's first COO appointment since 2019. Commenting on his appointment, Arora said, "I'm honoured to join Uber's Board at such an exciting time, as the company plays a central role in commercialising autonomous mobility globally. Uber has already transformed how people and goods move through cities, and I look forward to supporting the company's continued growth." Arora has led Palo Alto Networks since 2018 and previously held senior roles at SoftBank, Google, and T-Mobile. He brings extensive board experience, having served on the boards of SoftBank, Sprint, Colgate-Palmolive, and currently sits on the board of a Swiss luxury group. Welcoming Arora to the board, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi noted,"Nikesh is one of the technology sector's outstanding leaders, a strategic and disciplined operator, and a fierce competitor. We're delighted to have him join us as we pursue our long-term vision." The leadership changes come as Uber navigates intensifying competition in the robotaxi and delivery sectors. Tesla is expected to unveil its long-anticipated robotaxi service in Austin on 12 June. Meanwhile, Alphabet-owned Waymo already a partner of Uber in Austin and Atlanta, recently hit 10 million paid driverless rides, with weekly demand rising by 150 per cent in under a year. In the food delivery space, rival DoorDash has been expanding aggressively, acquiring Deliveroo and booking platform SevenRooms in recent weeks. The elevation of Macdonald, who will now oversee delivery, mobility, and autonomy, is seen as an effort to free up Khosrowshahi to focus on broader strategic priorities. Since taking the helm in 2017, Khosrowshahi has led Uber through its IPO in 2019, delivered its first operating profit in 2021, and forged key partnerships in the autonomous vehicle space after divesting its in-house AV unit. Addressing internal speculation, Khosrowshahi reassured staff in a memo,"I recognise the changes might prompt questions about my future, so I'll be clear. I have no plans to go anywhere other than flying around the globe keeping up with our ever-expanding footprint." As part of his board role, Arora will receive an annual cash retainer of USD 60,000 (approximately INR 50 lakh), along with USD 300,000 (around INR 2.5 crore) in restricted stock units per year, as detailed in the company's filing.

The Hemi Is Back! Ram Adds a V8 Option for 2026
But it wasn't that easy. The first actual plan said it would take about 18 months to get a V8 back into a Ram. Not satisfied, Kuniskis put together a team led by former Ford SVT employee Darryl Smith, now the special program technical manager for the Hemi project, and they brought the timeline down to six months. The Hemi will arrive this summer on the 2026 Ram 150 0 Tradesman, Big Horn, Express, Warlock, Laramie, Limited and Longhorn, with the Rebel joining later this year. The V8 engine will be a $1,200 option over the more powerful and efficient 3.0-liter standard-output twin-turbo inline-six, itself a $1,695 jump from the 3.6-liter V6 base engine. The Limited and Longhorn models that come standard with the high-output version of the inline-six engine can swap for the Hemi at no additional charge. The only two Ram variants that won't get the V8 option are the RHO and Tungsten. The Hemi V8 will only be available with eTorque mild hybrid technology and, like before, will deliver 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The eTorque hybrid motor-generator unit place of the alternator and works with a 48-volt battery pack to aid with startup and takeoff power. It can add up to 130 lb-ft of torque and recoups energy under braking. Ram also says the eTorque system enhances shifts, improves fuel-saving cylinder deactivation, and smooths transitions under acceleration and braking, which helps reduce noise, vibration and harshness. However, all new vehicles with Hemis also include the GT sport exhaust, so there might be a trade-off. Equipped with the Hemi V8, the 2026 Ram 1500 has a maximum towing capacity of up to 11,470 pounds and maximum payload capacity of 1,750 pounds.
