A Georgia Powerball player was one number shy of the estimated $309 million jackpot — but still netted a huge prize.
The lucky player won $1 million after matching five white ball numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Monday, July 21, according to the Georgia Lottery's website.
The winning ticket was sold at a Circle K gas station in Forsyth, a lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News. The winner hadn't come forward as of July 22.
It's the latest in a string of big lottery wins for the the Peach State, coming two days after someone netted an $865,050 Fantasy 5 jackpot in the July 19 drawing. The winning ticket, sold at a Publix supermarket in Savannah, matched all five numbers.
Last week, a lottery player won a $3 million jackpot playing the 100X The Money scratch-off game, the Georgia Lottery said.
The Powerball numbers for July 21 were 8-11-28-33-42 and red Powerball 2, according to the lottery game's website. The Power Play multiplier option was 2x.
A California player scored a $678,000 prize in Monday's drawing, results show. There were no $2 million winners, and no one hit the jackpot.
The next Powerball drawing is July 23 with an estimated $325 million jackpot.
Winners in Georgia have 180 days from the draw date to claim prizes and are encouraged to sign the back of their ticket, the Georgia Lottery said.
Forsyth is about a 60-mile drive southeast from downtown Atlanta.
What to know about Powerball
To score the jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.
Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.
Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Monday's lottery winners sold by a Miami-Dade grocer, a Publix and in Broward

One small area spanning two Miami-Dade cities and a Hollywood gas station proved to be the lucky spots for Florida Lottery players in Monday's Powerball, Cash4Life and Fantasy 5 draw games. That luck didn't include Powerball players and that jackpot will be $384 million on Wednesday. Monday's first drawing, the Fantasy 5 midday draw, came up 6-17-21-26-36, and that matched a Quick Pick ticket bought at a Hollywood Chevron, 5611 Hollywood Blvd. That was a $50,308 hit. The Fantasy 5 evening drawing jackpot got shared by players who chose the numbers 4, 14, 24, 28 and 31 at locations just two miles apart: a North Miami Publix at 12855 NE Sixth Ave. and Mr. Fresh Farmers Market, 13601 Biscayne Blvd. in North Miami Beach. Each ticket is worth $52,039. These tickets have to be cashed at one of the Florida Lottery offices, which are open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments can be made, but aren't required. The closest office to the three above locations is the office in Miami Lakes, 14621 Oak Ln., which can be reached at MIARC@ or 305-364-3080.
