Ramappa Temple security remains inadequate amidst rising threats on tourists after Pahalgam attack
MULUGU: Despite the recent terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, security at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ramappa Temple, in Mulugu district remains inadequate.
Since the Kakatiya Rudreshwara temple, popularly known as Ramappa Temple in Palampet village, Venkatapur mandal, received UNESCO World Heritage status, it has been attracting thousands of visitors from across the country and abroad.
Both state and central governments are actively promoting the historic monument to draw more tourists. However, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Mulugu district administration, and police have failed to implement sufficient security measures at the site.
The Pahalgam attack underscores the urgency of securing popular tourist destinations.
According to Ramappa Temple staff who chose to remain anonymous, no police personnel are stationed at the temple. The ASI has employed two private security guards, with an additional guard from the Endowment department, working in shifts.
Previously, the ASI requested the state government and police to provide police protection and establish a dedicated police picket, but no action has been taken.
This apart, while ASI drafted a proposal to install CCTV cameras at the temple, it remains unimplemented. Efforts to reach Mulugu Superintendent of Police Dr P Shabarish for comment were unsuccessful.

According to officials from the Delhi Police Vigilance Unit, the arrest took place at the Govindpuri police station itself. As per the initial investigation, the incident stemmed from a scuffle that erupted between the families of two brothers. This altercation led to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) in which certain members of one family were named as accused. Following the registration of the FIR, the ASI allegedly demanded a bribe amounting to Rs 50,000 from the complainant in exchange for providing some form of relief, possibly in the form of leniency or influence over the investigation process. After some negotiation, the bribe amount was reportedly settled at Rs 10,000. Out of this agreed sum, Rs 5,000 was already paid to the police officer earlier. Interestingly, the money was not handed over directly to the ASI. The complainant, troubled by the illegal demand for money and possibly fearing further harassment, decided to approach the Delhi Police Vigilance Unit and reported the matter. Based on his detailed complaint and preliminary inquiry, vigilance officers formulated a plan to catch the corrupt officer red-handed while accepting the remaining Rs 5,000. A trap was laid for the second instalment of the bribe. The complainant was instructed to proceed as planned while being closely monitored by the vigilance team. As soon as the bribe money was handed over vigilance officers swiftly entered the station and apprehended the ASI. Alongside him, the woman who had been acting as a conduit for the bribe collection was also detained. An official investigation is now underway to gather all evidence and determine whether other individuals may have been complicit in the crime.

Fake police station busted in Bihar days after ASI held with sophisticated weapons
PATNA: A group of fraudsters operated a fake police station for nearly a year from a government school building in Bihar's Purnea district. The racket surfaced shortly after a suspended ASI was arrested in Samastipur with sophisticated weapons, including an AK-47, Insas rifle, and a carbine. The alleged mastermind, Rahul Kumar Sah, has been absconding since the fake police station in Mohani village under Kasba police limits was exposed on Monday. Purnea SP Kartikey Sharma said a special police team has been formed to investigate the case. According to police, Sah posed as a recruiter for the Gramin Raksha Dal, charging local youth between Rs 2,500 and Rs 5,000 for supposed appointments as constables and chowkidars. After enrolling them, he handed out police uniforms, batons, and fake identity cards, and assigned them tasks, including vehicle checks and raids targeting liquor smugglers. Once recruited, they were instructed to carry out vehicle checking at different locations and fine motorists Rs 400 for infractions such as not wearing helmets or carrying a driving licence. Rs 200 went to the patrol team as commission, and the remainder was pocketed by Sah. 'Rahul told us the rest of the money was going into the government treasury,' one of the victims told senior police officers.
