
Southern Railway announces multiple Onam special trains to clear holiday rush
According to a statement from the zonal railway, Train No. 06119 Dr MGR Chennai Central – Kollam Weekly Express Special will depart Dr MGR Chennai Central at 3.10 p.m. on 27 August, 3 and 10 September (Wednesdays) and will reach Kollam at 6.40 a.m. the following day.
In the return direction, Train No. 06120 Kollam – Dr MGR Chennai Central Weekly Express Special will depart Kollam at 10.40 a.m. on 28 August, 4 and 11 September (Thursdays) and will reach Dr MGR Chennai Central at 3.30 a.m. the following day.
These trains will have a coach composition of 15 AC Three Tier Economy Coaches and 2 Luggage-cum-Brake Vans.
The trains will stop at Perambur, Thiruvallur, Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Podanur, Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam North, Kottayam, Changanassery, Tiruvalla, Chengannur, Mavelikara, Kayankulam, Karunagapalli and Sasthankotta.
Train No. 06041 Mangaluru Jn – Thiruvananthapuram North Bi-Weekly Express Special will leave Mangaluru Jn at 7.30 p.m. on 21, 23, 28 and 30 August and 4, 6, 11 and 13 September (Thursdays and Saturdays), and will reach Thiruvananthapuram North at 8 a.m. the next day.
In the return direction, Train No. 06042 Thiruvananthapuram North – Mangaluru Jn Bi-Weekly Express Special will depart Thiruvananthapuram North at 5.15 p.m. on 22, 24, 29 and 31 August and 5, 7, 12 and 14 September (Fridays and Sundays), and will arrive at Mangaluru Jn at 6.30 a.m. the next day.

Train No. 06041 Mangaluru Junction – Thiruvananthapuram North Bi-Weekly Special Express leaves Mangaluru Junction at 7.30 p.m. on August 21, 23, 28, and 30, and, September 4, 6, 11 and 13 (Thursdays and Saturdays), to reach Thiruvananthapuram North at 8 a.m. the next day. Train No. 06042 Thiruvananthapuram North - Mangaluru Junction Bi-Weekly Special Express leaves Thiruvananthapuram North at 5.15 p.m. on August 22, 24, 29 and 31, and, September 5, 7, 12 and 14, to reach Mangaluru Junction at 6.30 a.m. the next day. The train will have one 2-tier AC, two 3-tier AC, 17 sleeper class and two second class luggage-cum-brake van coaches. The Railways will operate Train No. 06047 Mangaluru Junction – Kollam Junction Special Express, leaving Mangaluru Junction at 9.15 p.m. on August 25, September 1 and 8 (Mondays) to reach Kollam Junction at 10.20 a.m. the next day. Train No. 06048 Kollam Junction - Mangaluru Junction Special Express leaves Kollam Junction at 5.10 p.m. on August 26, September 2 and 9 (Tuesdays) to reach Mangaluru Junction at 5.30 a.m. the next day. The train will have one 2-tier AC, two 3-tier AC, 17 sleeper class and two second class luggage-cum-brake van coaches.

SR AGM inspects passenger amenities in Trichy Junction
Trichy: Additional general manager (AGM) of Southern Railway , Kaushal Kishore, on Saturday conducted an inspection in Trichy Junction railway station to ascertain the usefulness of existing passenger amenities. Railway officials said the inspection went on for one hour, during which the AGM inspected passenger amenities, including the usage of escalators and lifts. Challenges in operating the facilities were explained by officials. He also inspected the other entrance of the junction located at the Kallukuzhi end and enquired about the accessibility conditions. In the integrated refreshment room available on platform one, Kishore enquired about the quality of food served to passengers. The officer also inspected the Ponmalai (Golden Rock) railway workshop. During his visit, representatives from the All India SC and ST Railway Employees Association (AISCTREA) submitted a request seeking new railway quarters for residential staff, as the old railway quarters were demolished. Internal roads in the Ponmalai workshop vicinity were also sought to be repaired and relaid. A demand to introduce CT and MRI scan facilities in the railway hospital here was raised too. Meanwhile, DRM Balak Ram Negi continued the inspection along with ADRM P K Selvan at Villupuram and Ariyalur stations. Need spl trains for I-Day weekend: MP
Trichy: MP Durai Vaiko has urged Southern Railway to operate special superfast trains through Trichy to places such as Mysuru and Chennai during the Independence Day weekend. In a letter to the general manager of Southern Railway, the MP said many people would be travelling as the Independence Day falls on Friday. Durai Vaiko also highlighted the need for a special superfast train between Chennai Egmore and Tirunelveli via Tambaram, Villupuram, Vriddhachalam, Trichy, Pudukkottai, Karaikudi, Manamadurai, and Aruppukottai. He also sought a special superfast train between Trichy and Mysuru via Karur, Salem, and Bengaluru.
