Manchester United Have Launched A Move For This Barcelona Playmaker: Good Option For Amorim?

Yahoo3 days ago
In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Manchester United have launched a move for Barcelona playmaker Fermin Lopez. It has been stated that the Red Devils have made an offer close to €80m to sign the Spanish attacker this summer.
Lopez's Good Run Of Form In Spanish Football
Lopez enjoyed a decent run of form at the Catalan club in the previous campaign after he put in a handful of impressive displays for them in La Liga. The Spanish sensation made 46 appearances for Barca last season, scoring eight times and grabbing ten assists on all fronts.
The 22-year-old proved his worth in the final third by averaging 2.95 shots per 90 minutes in La Liga. He kept 36.6% of his attempts on target. Lopez even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 81.8% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Catalan club will run out in the summer of 2029, which could make it difficult for the Red Devils to land him on the cheap this off-season.

Is Lopez A Good Option For Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim?
Lopez can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in and around the opponent's penalty area. He is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third.
The Spanish sensation is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder or as a left-winger if asked to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if the Red Devils manage to bring him on board.
Lopez would enhance the quality of Man United head coach Ruben Amorim's starting XI. He is good enough to nail down a regular first-team spot at Old Trafford this season.
At 22, Lopez has got a bright future ahead of him. Thus, he would be an excellent option for Man United to consider in the long run. However, Amorim has to give him some time before he can unlock the best out of the talented attacker at the Mancunian club.

Raphinha and Yamal score as Barcelona starts La Liga title defense beating 9-man Mallorca

MADRID (AP) — Barcelona began the defense of its La Liga title with a comfortable 3-0 win at Mallorca, scoring early and taking advantage of two first-half red cards for the host on Saturday. Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, who led Barcelona's prolific attack last season, needed only seven minutes to impress again. Yamal's curling cross found Raphinha by the far post and the Brazil forward headed in from close range. Ferran Torres' shot from outside the area in the 23rd was a goal that drew complaints by Mallorca because one of its players was on the ground after being hit by the ball in the head in the buildup. Some Mallorca players stopped playing after their teammate went down, but the referee allowed play to continue. Mallorca immediately complained after Ferran scored. The host went a man down 10 minutes later when Manu Morlanes was sent off for a second yellow card for fouling Yamal on the run. His first yellow was for protesting Barcelona's second goal. The second red card in the 39th came from Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi hitting the head of Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García with his left foot while reaching up for a high ball. The referee changed the card from yellow to red after a video review. Yamal made it 3-0 in second half stoppage time by hitting the top corner. Barcelona, which won the league last season after scoring 102 goals, was without veteran striker Robert Lewandowski because of an injury. Newly signed forward Marcus Rashford went in as a substitute in the 69th. New Barcelona goalkeeper García didn't have to work much in his Barcelona debut after being signed in the offseason in a transfer from city rival Espanyol. Regular starting goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is out after undergoing lower back surgery, and García started ahead of Wojciech Szczęsny and Iñaki Peña, who replaced Ter Stegen last season. Later Saturday, Valencia hosted Real Sociedad and promoted Levante visited Alaves. On Friday, Rayo Vallecano won at Girona 3-1 and Villarreal defeated promoted Oviedo 2-0. Mallorca vs Barcelona: Controversies that stole the spotlight in season opener

Barcelona started their La Liga title defense in style with a 3-0 victory over Mallorca on August 16, 2025, at Son Moix. Goals from Raphinha, Ferran Torres, and a stoppage-time strike from Lamine Yamal sealed the win. Yet, despite the convincing scoreline, the night was overshadowed by heated controversies and refereeing decisions that became the main talking points. Here's a breakdown of the most controversial moments from the clash. Ferran Torres' Goal Sparks Debate The biggest flashpoint came in the 23rd minute. Mallorca defender Raíllo collapsed after blocking a shot from Yamal and lay motionless in the box. The referee briefly lifted the whistle to his mouth but never blew it. Barcelona continued, Yamal passed to Ferran Torres, and the forward fired home from the edge of the area. Mallorca's bench erupted, with coach Jagoba Arrasate confronting the officials after the final whistle. Many argued that the game should have been stopped for Raíllo's injury, while others defended the decision, saying the referee never signalled for a halt. The goal stood, but the controversy had already become one of the talking points of the new season. Red Card Chaos Hits Mallorca As frustrations boiled over, Mallorca's discipline cracked. Manu Morlanes was the first to go, picking up two yellow cards—the first for dissent and the second for a late challenge on Yamal. Later in the second half, striker Vedat Muriqi was shown a straight red after a reckless kick caught Barça goalkeeper Joan García. Reduced to nine men, Mallorca had no way back into the match. While the calls were technically correct, many Mallorca supporters felt the decisions came harshly and killed any chance of a comeback. Raphinha's Escape From Punishment Tensions boiled just before halftime. During first-half stoppage time, Raphinha lunged recklessly at Mateu Jaume, leaving the Mallorca midfielder in visible pain. Many expected a red card, but the referee chose to give a yellow. This incident became one of the night's biggest talking points, fueling accusations of inconsistency in officiating.
