'Largest jewelry heist in US history': 7 Californian men stole $100M in diamonds, Rolex watches; no bullets, no witnesses
7 Californian men charged for the largest jewelry heist in US history.
Seven men from California, including illegal immigrants, have been charged in thefts that the US Attorney's Office call the "largest jewelry heist in US history". Starting in March 2022, these men put a system in place where they just walked away with cargo load after cargo load with no bullets being fired or anyone witnessing them doing the massive plunder.
And it continued for three years.
Prosecutors said the robbery crew was scouting an international jewelry show on July 10, 2022, south of San Francisco in San Mateo when they saw the Brinks truck being loaded with a virtual treasure chest of goods. They followed the truck and when the truck stopped at a gas station about the driver and the guard went inside, these men quickly broke in and picked only some of the bags. Out of 73 bags containing millions of dollars worth of jewelry, they took 24, prosecutors said.
Then these men disappeared, deactivated their cellphones and tried to cover their tracks the best.
Before that, these men used the same modus operandi to rob a box truck containing Apple AirTags from China, and another semitruck with Samsung electronics.
The investigators had a tough job cracking the case as there was no witness, making them rely mostly on surveillance footage and cell phone records. Prosecutors said they did not know how these men were spending any proceeds from the theft.

"We don't have any information about them spending lavishly," Jena MacCabe, an assistant US Attorney, said. "I think as we continue to investigate this and look into what's been going on the past few years with these defendants, we'll know more. But right now, I don't know what they've done with all the spoils from this."

Jazael Padilla Resto, a.k.a. "Ricardo Noel Moya," "Ricardo Barbosa," and "Alberto Javier Loza Chamorro," 36, is currently an inmate at an Arizona prison.

Couple from Ahmedabad killed in AI 171 crash was on errand to update Aadhaar card
Ahmedabad: A routine errand turned into a tragedy for Ranveersinh Chavda, 41, and his wife Chetnaba, 39, who lost their lives in the Air India Flight 171 crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. The couple was riding an electric two-wheeler near the Atulyam complex to sort out a correction in Chetnaba's Aadhaar card when the aircraft came down, crashing into a nearby building. The sudden, violent impact proved fatal for the couple. The last rites of the couple, residents of Kubernagar, were performed on Wednesday after their DNA matched with their 11-year-old son, Mandip. The couple is also survived by a 20-year-old daughter, Krupa. Chetansinh Chavda, a family friend, says Ranveersinh, who worked in the hospitality sector, and Chetnaba were happy as their 20-year-old daughter, Krupa had got married in March. "On Thursday, Ranveersinh took a two-hour break from his office, to get an affidavit." Ranveersinh and Chetnaba went to the IG compound, where several advocates have their offices. "There was an error in Chetnaba's Aadhaar card, and the two went to get an affidavit so that they could get the changes made," said Chavda. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like USDJPY đang đi lên không? Burnt remnants of the hotel's scooter and half-charred documents, including the Aadhaar card, were recovered from the scene. The family received the mortal remains only on Wednesday, after forensic identification. Their final rites were performed the same day, with councillors from both the BJP and Congress in attendance. Chavda said that Mandip, who is a Class 5 student, is yet to realise that his parents have left. "Had they postponed the visit by even a few minutes, they might still be alive. But destiny had other plans."

Did sarpanch help build mining road via protected Aravalis? Haryana govt panel to probe
Gurgaon: The Haryana govt on Wednesday set up a high-powered committee to investigate the role of the sarpanch of Basai Meo village in the illegal construction of two roads through protected Aravali forest land near the Rajasthan border, an area that has been under Supreme Court's scanner since a hillock collapsed. The roads, built in Oct 2024, are believed to have been used by miners to transport illegally quarried stones from Nuh's Basai Meo to stone-crushing units in Rajasthan. In Nov 2024, villagers had filed a complaint, accusing the sarpanch of aiding miners by facilitating construction of the road, which also gave them access to Rawa in Haryana where the hillock was taken down with explosive charges last Dec. A separate probe by the Anti-Corruption Bureau is already under way. The newly formed committee includes the divisional commissioner of Gurgaon and the deputy commissioner and subdivisional magistrate of Nuh. It will examine whether the sarpanch violated rules in facilitating or overseeing road construction and is required to submit its report within 45 days. "The roads are illegal and we have already shut them down by constructing a wall so that movement of vehicles stops. We are also planning to carry out a plantation drive in 15 to 20 days to restore the area. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What She Did Mid-Air Left Passengers Speechless medalmerit Learn More Undo We will investigate how these roads were constructed and who was responsible," Nuh deputy commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena told TOI. "We are also planning a series of actions to ensure that no such illegal roads are built in Aravalis. Without consolidation, the roads can't be made. It was the work of mining mafia and some locals, but we will investigate the matter thoroughly. The land comes under sections 4 and 5 of PLPA (Punjab Land Preservation Act, which restricts construction in Aravali forests)," he added. The committee will recommend strict preventive action if wrongdoing is established and is also expected to suggest systemic reforms to bolster the oversight mechanism of gram panchayats in Aravali hills and forested areas. The committee has been asked to review recommendations from the Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee (CEC) on compensation or alternative land arrangements, likely arising from the environmental impact or displacement caused by the road. This move comes amid growing concern over encroachments and unregulated construction in the Aravalis, which act as a natural barrier against desertification of Delhi-NCR. After a petition by Basai Meo villagers came up before SC, it directed CEC to inspect the site. In its report, CEC confirmed the violations and recommended action against erring officials. Last month, the chief secretary filed an affidavit that said the state's forest department did not act against violations. But SC disagreed, and in its hearing on May 29, pulled up the chief secretary for "passing the buck" to the forest department. "It appears that (mining) mafia is strong enough to protect not only its members but also the officers of the state govt who acted in collusion with them," Chief Justice of India B R Gavai said. But miners are undeterred. The road that was originally blocked by the forest department months ago was rebuilt. On June 2, officials and blocked it again.

Invited to wedding, guests escape with relative's Rs 22 lakh in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: A family wedding in city turned into a police case after four relatives allegedly decamped with Rs 22.5 lakh in cash while staying at the groom's uncle's residence during the celebrations. The complaint was filed by Narender Singh, 37, a native of UP who resides in a rented flat in Sector 37C. Singh had recently sold ancestral land and was keeping the proceeds in an almirah at his house. Due to limited space at his sister's house, where the wedding was hosted, Singh offered accommodation to some relatives from Aligarh, his cousins Balla, Ajaypal, and their wives Kamlesh and Preeti. "Since we were busy with the wedding, most of my family stayed at my sister's house. These relatives left immediately after the ceremony without informing anyone," Singh told the police. "Even when I sent someone to call them during the phera ceremony, only Jagatpal came. The rest said they were too tired to attend." Days later, Singh found the cash missing from the room where the guests had stayed. When he confronted them, they denied the theft. "They picked a quarrel with me. I even involved the village panchayat to settle the matter, but nothing worked," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo The victim tried to resolve the issue through mutual relatives. "Since they are my paternal cousins, we never doubted their intentions. That's why we gave them space in our home, treating them as family. But they stole the money out of greed," Singh said. With no resolution in sight, Singh approached Sector 10 police, where a case was registered under BNS sections 305 (theft in a dwelling house) and 3(5) (act committed by multiple persons) .
