Couple from Ahmedabad killed in AI 171 crash was on errand to update Aadhaar card

Time of India6 hours ago

Ahmedabad: A routine errand turned into a tragedy for Ranveersinh Chavda, 41, and his wife Chetnaba, 39, who lost their lives in the Air India Flight 171 crash in Ahmedabad on June 12.
The couple was riding an electric two-wheeler near the Atulyam complex to sort out a correction in Chetnaba's Aadhaar card when the aircraft came down, crashing into a nearby building. The sudden, violent impact proved fatal for the couple.
The last rites of the couple, residents of Kubernagar, were performed on Wednesday after their DNA matched with their 11-year-old son, Mandip. The couple is also survived by a 20-year-old daughter, Krupa.
Chetansinh Chavda, a family friend, says Ranveersinh, who worked in the hospitality sector, and Chetnaba were happy as their 20-year-old daughter, Krupa had got married in March. "On Thursday, Ranveersinh took a two-hour break from his office, to get an affidavit."
Ranveersinh and Chetnaba went to the IG compound, where several advocates have their offices. "There was an error in Chetnaba's Aadhaar card, and the two went to get an affidavit so that they could get the changes made," said Chavda.

As they passed through the crash site, fate intervened.
Burnt remnants of the hotel's scooter and half-charred documents, including the Aadhaar card, were recovered from the scene. The family received the mortal remains only on Wednesday, after forensic identification. Their final rites were performed the same day, with councillors from both the BJP and Congress in attendance.
Chavda said that Mandip, who is a Class 5 student, is yet to realise that his parents have left. "Had they postponed the visit by even a few minutes, they might still be alive. But destiny had other plans."

Body of Kuki flight attendant from Manipur to land in Nagaland, take detour around Meitei areas

GUWAHATI/KOLKATA: Kuki flight attendant Lamnunthem Singson, one of the crew aboard Air India Flight 171, will be laid to rest in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Friday - her body transported via Dimapur, not Imphal, as ethnic violence carves detours into grief. The 26-year-old's remains were released to her family Wednesday after DNA confirmation with her brother. The aircraft carrying her body is scheduled to land in Nagaland's Dimapur airport at 1pm Thursday, with a 250km road journey through NH2 to Kangpokpi town expected to end by 7.30pm. Imphal, a mere 75km from Kangpokpi, was ruled out. The family, displaced from Imphal in 2023 during the Meitei-Kuki conflict, now lives in a rented house in Kangpokpi. The decision to avoid Imphal stemmed from fears of fresh unrest despite official guarantees. Kangpokpi DC Mahesh Chaudhari assured that security measures are in place. "We respect the family's emotional state," he said. Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) member K Songreng is coordinating the final journey. He said Imphal was "not viable" amid ongoing tensions. "Prayer services are planned along the Dimapur route," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트, 지금 시작하세요 [자세히 보기] 임플란트 더 알아보기 Undo A funeral will be held Friday at a public cemetery in Kangpokpi. Local Kuki women are preparing a reception at the family's home, where relatives will arrive from Ahmedabad with the remains. Singson's colleague aboard the flight that crashed on June 12 in Ahmedabad was 20-year-old Kongbrailatpam Nganth8oi Sharma, a Meitei woman from Imphal. Her sister Gitanjali, in Ahmedabad since June 13, awaits a DNA match. "They told us to wait and keep patience," said Gitanjali. "She only sent me a message sharing the flight timing. She didn't talk much that day." Over 200 DNA identifications have been confirmed. "We just need a call from the hospital," she said. Meitei Heritage Society issued a statement condemning attempts to politicise the tragedy. "It is immoral and simply wrong to exploit this human tragedy for vested interests by playing politics over the dead bodies," it said. The crash now trails two long, fractured journeys home.

Trans-formation: At LGBTQ+ job fair in city, stories of new beginnings and hope

New Delhi: With no family support and no one willing to give him a job, transman Andy Kashyap, was forced to sell momos at a makeshift stall outside his rented room in Mohali to make ends meet three years ago. It was a visit to a job fair in Delhi organised exclusively for LGBTQI+ community in 2023 that changed his life. Today 29-year-old is a busy man, working at a diversity, equity and inclusion advisory firm and happily guiding other job seekers. A native of Ferozepur in Punjab, Andy's story reflects the challenges faced by qualified youth from the LGBTQI+ community when it comes to finding inclusive workspaces. From engineers to aspiring development professionals, one could see many queuing up at the one-of-its-kind job fair in the capital on Wednesday — the National Trans Employment Mela 2025. The fair was its third year, organised by NGO TWEET Foundation and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion advisory firm InHarmony working to build inclusive workplaces in collaboration with the Union ministry of social justice and empowerment. Social justice minister Virendra Kumar, in his inaugural speech, asserted that the job fair was one platform that not only opened doors to livelihood but also celebrated the immense talent and resilience of the community. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Run Your Business Like a Pro - Top Trending Accounting Software (Check Now) Accounting ERP Click Here Undo The event brought together over 160 transgender and non-binary candidates from across the country. Among the companies that came to the fair to recruit candidates one found prominent names like Publicis Sapient, Hexaware, EY Foundation, Mahindra Logistics, Godrej Capital, Procter & Gamble, The Lemon Tree hotels, HDFC Life and The Lalit hotel. As one walked from stall to stall it turned out that this was no regular job fair. At one end were recruiters doing all to ensure the conversations, questions and responses were sensitive and inclusive and at the other end were job seekers hoping against hope to get that one job where they would feel accepted for who they were without being judged. Andy, for instance, holds a degree from Punjab University in history and psychology and a diploma in hotel management. From earning a mere Rs 150 selling momos and doing other odd jobs, Andy has come a long way, not just earning Rs 17,000 a month but gaining confidence to undergo the required surgeries and hormonal treatment to assert and openly speak about his transman identity. Emerging from the Mahindra Logistics stall, 20-year-old Lalit Yadav from Dhanbad in Jharkhand could not hold back his excitement. The commerce graduate shared that he had landed his first internship based on his interview. Born Lalita, this young boy said he was lucky to have the support of his parents, his milkman father and housewife mother. The young transman aspires to one day prove successful in a govt service exams and serve as an officer in his home state of Bihar. Most others, however, shared stories of facing transphobia at home and outside. Ankita Singh, a 26-year-old automation engineer, is a case in point. A BTech graduate in computer sciences from Visakhapatnam and currently based in Hyderabad, the transwoman is currently jobless and was seen going from stall to stall sharing her CV. She said her first job at a start-up ended soon after her employers got to know about her identity. In her next job, she said she faced humiliation and insensitivity from her employers. "I am looking for a job that can give me respect and value my work based on my qualifications," she asserted. That finding a job is not easy is evident when one meets 24-year-old Prerna, a Delhi University graduate who is pursuing her master's degree in gender studies from IGNOU. Articulate and qualified, she failed to land a job of her liking last year at the fair but it gave her the platform to meet like-minded people. She currently works at an insurance company that provides her an inclusive atmosphere. "But I am back at the job fair to meet more people and employers. I work as an associate and have the confidence of seeking roles that allow me to take on bigger responsibilities going forward," she said with confidence. Amidst the flurry of activity, one saw 36-year-old Mani Mallarapu, a transman, quietly leaning against a stall holding onto his crutches. The Hyderabad native suffered polio when three years old. He barely managed to get past Class XII and could not study any further as travelling to town for higher education from his village was well near impossible. Working as a volunteer for survival with an NGO in Hyderabad, Mani was in Delhi on Wednesday to participate in the job fair at The Lalit hotel. "I know there is even less acceptance for a transman with a disability than for others, but I am here to still try my best," he said with a determination that underlined the essence of the job fair aimed at making inclusive workspaces a reality.

‘Sant Peeth' a medium to ensure Maha's traditions, philosophy & culture passes to next generation: CM

1 2 Pune: Sant Peeth is a medium that will ensure passing of Maharashtra's traditions, philosophy, and knowledge of our culture to the next generation so that they can reach global platforms, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday. Fadnavis said that Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Sant Peeth in Chikhali was preserving the legacy and traditions followed by warkaris and kirtankars by imparting the teachings of saints in Sanskrit, Marathi, Hindi, and English. "The students are trained here in a way that they can promote Bhagwat Dharma globally in future," he said. Sant Peeth is the first-of-its-kind school in Maharashtra started by Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), offering holistic education integrating warkari tradition, Sanskrit, and Sant literature with modern education. Inaugurating an art gallery' and auditorium at the institute, the CM said that the govt will provide support for its future expansion plans. He said the govt was setting up similar institutes in Pandharpur and Alandi, and they would try to create a way to connect all these institutes with each other. Fadnavis also launched a slew of development projects by PCMC during an official event in Chikhali later in the day. The visit is viewed as politically significant in the backdrop of the upcoming civic elections. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 月 **,***원대 '실비보험' 최적가 비교가입! The delay in completion of the bridge had drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders. During the visit, the CM also performed 'bhoomipujan' (groundbreaking ceremony) for the widening of the service road along Pune-Bengaluru highway within PCMC limits. The project would be implemented by National Highways Authority of India. The widening of the service road from 12 meters to 24 meters on both sides between Tathawde and Wakad would help in reducing traffic congestion. The CM also launched a city-wide tree plantation campaign under which the civic body plans to plant 1.5 lakh trees over the next year. Political analysts termed the launch of multiple infrastructure projects as a strategic push by BJP-led state govt to regain ground ahead of the PCMC elections. The CM's visit comes just a day after both factions of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar held parallel rallies in the city, signalling the beginning of their electoral campaign. While appreciating the PCMC's initiatives, the CM said, "The interest of youths in sports is increasing, and there is a need for adequate infrastructure to ensure that our youths are trained well, and building a climbing wall was one such initiative as it is also one of the sports in Olympics." Box: CM tells PCMC to cancel proposed TP scheme for Charholi Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday told Pimpri Chinchwad municipal commissioner Shekhar Singh to cancel the town planning scheme proposed for Charholi. This comes hours after residents protested in a 'Sholay style' demanding cancellation of the scheme. Earlier, the municipal corporation had announced a halt to further implementation of the scheme after the residents announced a 'bandh' in the area in protest. However, the residents demanded that the scheme must be permanently cancelled, following which the CM made the announcement at an event in Chikhali. Fadnavis said, "No projects in the city will be carried out without taking people into confidence."
