Conor McGregor links up with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers in Ibiza days after 'punch' incident

McGregor has been pictured linking up with Celtic manager Rodgers in Ibiza, just days after the former UFC champion was allegedly involved in a nightclub altercation
Conor McGregor has been spotted rubbing shoulders with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers in Ibiza.
The UFC star - who previously claimed he has held discussions to become a Celtic shareholder - took to social media on Friday evening to post a photo of himself alongside the Hoops boss, who was cradling a baby in the image.

"LEGENDARY DOUBLE CHAMP LINK UP! NEXT YEAR, TREBLE! GOD IS GREAT! @CelticFC @ufc Congrats to the Rodgers family on the new addition to their family," McGregor captioned the picture on his social media platforms.

This encounter between Rodgers and McGregor occurred shortly after the latter was reportedly involved in a scuffle at an Ibiza nightclub.
The Sun published footage early Tuesday from Pacha nightclub, which purportedly shows McGregor leaning down to speak to an unidentified man on the dance floor. Seconds later, the 36 year old seems to launch two punches.
Following the incident, the man was seen hitting the ground, prompting witnesses to share their accounts of what transpired. One eyewitness told The Sun that it seemed there were no repercussions for the ex-dual-weight UFC titleholder.
"The guy seemed to fall to the floor, and his mates came to pick him up and get him away," they reported to The Sun. "There [didn't appear to be any] consequences for Conor."
Another recounted: "About five people fell to the floor as the guy stumbled back. It was a bit like bowling pins, but the guy was really shaken."
They continued: "About a minute later, the bouncers came and got him on the back and took him out of the club.

"It was right before close anyway," they added. "There was no messing around; they just removed him. Conor left through the garden a bit later; he didn't look very happy."
Since then, McGregor has shared that he was in Ibiza after treating his football teammates to a trip to the Spanish resort. The UFC star has been playing in an over 35's league with his local pub team and celebrated their recent league victory.
"To celebrate winning the league I took the @blackforgeinn football squad away on holiday to Ibiza! All expenses paid, VIP's," McGregor posted on social media along with a selection of snaps and clips from their getaway.
He elaborated: "LEAGUE CHAMPIONS, BABY! Reach out, link up, join a team! Get active! For the sake of your mental health you will thank yourself! #ibizapartyisland."
Three years ago, McGregor stated talks took place with Dermot Desmond about his shares to provide financial backing for the Parkhead side.

Trent Alexander-Arnold agreement over what ‘he'll be glad' about after nightmare

Trent Alexander-Arnold made his first start for Real Madrid in their 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal, but the England international endured a pretty disastrous start for his new club at the FIFA Club World Cup Alan Shearer is convinced that Trent Alexander-Arnold will "get better" with time at Real Madrid. The former Liverpool defender made his debut for the Spanish giants on Wednesday, taking part in their 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal at the FIFA Club World Cup. Gonzalo Garcia scored the opener for Madrid, before Ruben Neves levelled things up from the penalty spot just before half-time for the Saudi team. Federico Valverde thought he was going to clinch the win in stoppage time, but his late penalty was saved by Bono to ensure the Spaniards were held to a draw. ‌ Alexander-Arnold's first match in Madrid white ultimately didn't go down as well as he would've hoped. Despite delivering crosses into the box and pushing forward, he lost possession a staggering 12 times before being hooked off in the 65th minute. ‌ During an episode of the Rest is Football podcast, Gary Lineker discussed the England international's debut, admitting that the defender will be relieved to now have his first start behind him – even if it didn't go to plan. Reflecting on Madrid's draw with Al-Hilal, the former Tottenham Hotspur star said: "Trent's debut is the obvious place to start. I thought he was a little bit slow early on, in warming up, but I thought he grew into the game. You saw a few crosses from him and he had lots of possession of the ball. He'll be glad to get that game out the way won't he?" Sky Sports host Alex Aljoe was in agreement, adding: "I thought it was interesting what Xabi Alonso said after the game, it was like he said, 'Look, he's a really talented player, but talent isn't enough.' It's almost like he wanted to say that, he's sort of making a statement by coming out and saying that. "He said he needs to get better defensively, and that's where he was exposed; at the back at times in that game. I think in general, Real Madrid lack experienced, high-quality defenders." Shearer chimed in, suggesting that Alexander-Arnold will need more time to adapt to Madrid's playing style, and insisted that there is much more to come from the Premier League star. The Newcastle United legend said: "I think it's clearly going to take time to get used to a new manager, new sort of ideas of what he wants to do. ‌ "Trent obviously is going to take time to understand and get used to his surroundings, that's only normal. But, he'll have bigger and better ideas than that." Shearer agreed with Lineker, and said: "I think he'll be pleased that it's out of the way [making his debut]. He's maybe disappointed that he didn't do so well, the team didn't do so well, they didn't get the right result. It'll get better, there's no doubt." While Lineker, Shearer and Aljoe were reluctant to slate Alexander-Arnold too much, not everyone shared their stance. Several prominent football rating platforms handed Alexander-Arnold low scores. Football Espana and Sport both gave the English defender a 5/10, with the former labelling his performance "underwhelming" and criticising his lack of impact in attack. ‌ After the match, the 26-year-old opened up about his move from his boyhood team to the La Liga side, acknowledging that leaving Liverpool was "a big change" he felt was necessary at this point in his career. Alexander-Arnold said: "It's a very proud moment for me. It's a moment that most, if not all players, dream of at some point in their life. But it was very challenging to play in that heat and very different from England. "It's the first time I've moved clubs. I didn't know what to expect and it's a big change but I'm loving every single minute of it. In my mind and in my heart, I know that I made the right decision for me." Our expert panel discusses all the big issues in Scottish sport and beyond - in handy bitesize chunks. This week the top team discuss whether Celtic should cash in on Nicolas Kuhn and whether the £15million RB Leipzig are reportedly looking to pay is a fair price and James Tavernier's future with the imminent arrival of Max Aarons. You won't regret taking two minutes out of your day to enjoy it. Here's just a flavour of it. You can watch the full podcast in the player above, or listen here. Is the reported £15million a fair price for Nicolas Kuhn and should Celtic cash in? GB: If Celtic were to receive an offer of £15m I think you would take it. ‌ MG: Yeah? This is a guy who was a shoo-in for Player of the Year up until January. GB: That's the key thing - up until January. He's been there for 18 months and had a purple patch. He's been hot for a third of his time at Celtic. Bought for £3.5m, off the boil at the end of the season. If Celtic want to get more than £15m you have to be sure he's going to get back to the blistering level of the start of last season and there's no guarantees of that. MG: I don't think he's maximised his value yet. It would be hard to get £15m just now but they could get more down the line. The key is to get him to be more consistent but you have to cut him some slack and I don't think his fall off in the second half of the season was that bad. He was still good at times. He had a phenomenal performance away to Bayern Munich. We know he's a player. Celtic shouldn't be looking to sell him unless he's got itchy feet. ‌ Has John Souttar put his Rangers career in jeopardy by delaying surgery to play for Scotland? MG: I don't think he's put it in jeopardy. The reality is John Souttar is a very good footballer, a good defender, really solid but he has had his issues with injuries. He's done amazing to come back from three career-threatening injuries. Rangers needed two central defenders for the season anyway - you have to think Robin Propper will go as well - and this slightly strange situation has expedited that. Who is to blame for this? I find the timing of the surgery a bit strange and narrowing the the time of recovery. GB: I have to say Russell Martin has spoken about it and said he will be fit for Panathinaikos. And that it was very much John Souttar who was desperate to play for Scotland. I'm not sure Rangers fans will agree those games were important enough. ‌ The other thing is Scotland have huge World Cup qualifiers in September - is it not better he's in peak physical condition for those games? MG: All parties will look back on this and think it was silly. John should have said after the Bilbao game he wanted in sharpish to get back, the club should have said that and Steve Clarke should have said he didn't need him for friendlies against Finland and Liechtenstein as he knows what he can do. ‌ Is there a future for the FIFA Club World Cup in the current format? MG: I've liked a few of the games but Bayern Munich v Auckland City... the poor goalkeeper for Auckland is a forklift driver and could have done with one to lift the ball out the back of the net. GB: I picked up a coupon in the bookies and Bayern were 1/1000 and I'd never seen odds like it. I had to watch the game to see if it was as one-sided - and it was! (10-0). But there are quality sides outside of the Big Five leagues in Europe. We live in this Champions League bubble and think nothing exists outside of UEFA. ‌ MG: Did you see Real Madrid vs Al-Hilal? I was really impressed with them. They've spent a few quid but you watch them and think they could do some damage to some of our teams. GB: There is potential. There has to be changes. When in the season should we play it? Should the domestic season finish earlier or the new one start later? Bin League Cup games in a lot of these countries. ‘He could come in and hurt us' – Rangers hero Ally McCoist opens up on the potential Celtic signing he fears most

Talk of a huge move for the highly rated youngster has persisted for some time since his Premier League breakthrough. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Rangers hero Ally McCoist has discussed a Celtic-linked player he's a 'big fan' of Credit: Getty 2 He thinks Ireland and Brighton striker Evan Ferguson could 'hurt' Rangers Credit: Sportsfile Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, most recently on loan at West Ham, has previously been on trial with the Hoops but nothing ever came of it. But the 20-year-old's name has remained in the frame for a potential Parkhead loan deal, as well as attracting interest from English giants Arsenal. And Rangers hero Ally McCoist has glowed over the Irishman, speaking about him in Dublin as he took part in a 555-mile charity cycle. He said: 'I'm a fan. Oh aye. 'I want him to get fit. I really like Evan Ferguson and I really want him to get fit and stay fit." He has had a few mostly minor injuries keeping him in and out of the squad, as well as a bigger issue that saw him crocked from April last year to the beginning of the following season. McCoist continued: 'He can finish. Out of all the younger ones coming through, I thought Evan Ferguson was the one to watch. 'Obviously he's got one or two injuries going on that have held him back a bit, but if he keeps himself fit he will score goals anywhere. 'The unfortunate thing for my mob is, he could come in and hurt us. Definitely. "It wouldn't surprise me at all. I'm a big fan.' Ally McCoist confesses to 'horrendous' epic fail ahead of final day of Rangers legend's charity bike ride The ex-Gers player and manager's worry of a prolific derby goalscorer against his side comes as the Celts have struggled in the last few outings. The most recent was a 1-1 draw and the prior two ties ended in victory for the Ibrox side. However Celtic did win the League Cup final on penalties and last year's Scottish Cup final against their bitter rivals. The latter saw just one goal scored late on by Adam Idah, who would possibly fall out of the team if Evan Ferguson were to arrive. But McCoist believes the 24-year-old has done enough to earn praise despite some struggles. He said: 'He's done well. He has scored important goals. 'I think one thing you have got to do as an Old Firm centre forward is, sure, you have to get goals. 'But as an Old Firm centre-forward, you have got to score against Rangers. And if you are a centre-forward for Rangers you have got to score against Celtic. 'You have got to score important goals and Adam Idah has done that.'
