Make the most of your annual leave in 2026 with method to get 63 days off
A woman has devised a brilliant strategy for those wanting to maximise their time off next year. We're all attempting to avoid burnout wherever possible and maintain our wellbeing as we reach that stage of the year where we've worked hard and are desperate for a rest. It's vital to strike the perfect balance between work obligations and much-needed downtime.
Most of us are limited by a fixed number of holiday days or hours, and securing time off during busy periods can often be challenging. For those slogging away Monday to Friday, there's usually a minimum of 28 days' paid leave available each year, totalling 5.6 weeks of time to take off. Meanwhile, shift workers may receive time off in lieu if they work extra hours or weekends.
It's essential workers secure approval for their planned getaways to avoid any potential fees from altering plans or cancellations.
Fortunately, one woman on Instagram has shared how you can set yourself up for 63 days off work in 2026 if you have 28 days in total.
If you have fewer than 28 days, the method can still help you make the most of your annual leave, though you won't achieve quite as many days off.
Travel content creator Danielle, who enjoys sharing her top holiday advice from destinations to getting there and booking time off, explained in an Instagram post: "This is for my UK followers and I know 28 is a bit higher than average but hope this helps."
This is how she's planning her 2026 annual leave...
Annual leave to book off 2026
Book off Friday January 2 - this way you get four days off from Jan 1 to 4 as New Year's Day is a bank holiday
Book off March 30 to April 3, as well as April 7 to April 10 - this way you get 16 days off between March 28 and April 13 as this is when Easter Bank Holidays fall
Book off May 5 to May 10 - you will get nine days off between May 2 and May 10 because there's an early Bank Holidays
Book off May 26 to May 29 - you can get another nine days off between May 23 and May 31 because of Spring Bank Holiday
Book off September 1 to September 4 - you can get nine days off between August 30 and September 7
Book off December 21 to 24 and December 29 and 31 - you can get 16 days off between December 19 and January 3
Danielle advises: "The downside of this is that it's peak time to travel and can mean prices are a bit higher than usual.
"However if you're looking to fit in more holidays or longer holidays, this is the way to do it! Book your flights and hotels far in advance to grab the best deals. Easy Jet has just released summer 2026 flights too."
One person responded to the post, saying: "This is fab. Thanks. I get 33 days holiday plus I do a 9 day fortnight so I get 16 Fridays off."
Another chimed in: "37 days plus Bank Holidays! This is still really useful. Thanks! Planning for next year now." Someone else shared their leave allowance, stating: "33 days annual leave plus 24 days flexi leave per year = 57 days leave."
Another individual pointed out: "All the people complaining about the amount of days they get but they get all the bank holidays and Christmas off. Try working in healthcare, you're working them all."
One more warned: "One thing to note is that flight prices absolutely surge over bank holiday weekends and weeks. So be prepared to pay way more than you usually would for your cheap holiday flights."
Another agreed, adding: "This works except you're having time off around Bank Holidays and holidays so prices are doubled."
Another individual highlighted: "I get 21 days but still helpful thanks. The only trouble is that we have a policy where by if two people are already off then no one else can be due to the small team. So it's unlikely 1 person would be granted the best days off a year."

easyJet, British Airways, Wizz Air and other passengers warned over severe delays in Spain
A strike is set to hit five airports in Spain between August 16 and August 31. Passengers flying with easyJet, British Airways, Wizz Air and other airlines could be among those affected by a fresh wave of airport strikes. The disruption is set to hit major Spanish holiday hotspots starting this weekend and continue for the next two weekends. Those jetting off to Barcelona, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche, Palma de Mallorca and Tenerife Sur may face disruption due to industrial action called by the UGT union, which represents ground handling staff employed by the Menzies group. The strike is not a continuous walkout but is planned across the last three weekends of August 2025, timed to coincide with the peak summer travel season over the weekends of Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 August; Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August; and Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August. The industrial action is targeted at Menzies Aviation Ibérica, the firm responsible for ground services for several international airlines across Spain. Other airlines that could be impacted include Emirates, Norwegian and American Airlines. Passengers travelling with the affected airlines on the strike dates should prepare for potential disruption. The strikes target crucial ground services, including passenger check-in, baggage handling, and aircraft assistance on the tarmac. Travellers may face longer queues and extended waiting times for their luggage, reports Bristol Live. Ivalyo Danailov, CEO of airline compensation specialists SkyRefund, said: "Clearly, travellers booked on flights with easyJet, Emirates, British Airways, or the other impacted carriers should check their flight status directly with the airline before heading to the airport for the most up-to-date information. "As the industrial action is by ground handling staff at Menzies Aviation Ibérica is a strike by by third-party ground handling staff it would generally be considered 'an extraordinary circumstance', meaning airlines may not be required to pay compensation for delays caused by such industrial action. "Nonetheless, passengers remain entitled to essential assistance, including meals, refreshments, communication, and accommodation if necessary during prolonged delays. We strongly advise all travellers to keep themselves informed about potential disruptions during these peak summer weekends."

Love Island star Shaughna Phillips reveals holiday nightmare as she shares travel advice
Love Island star Shaughna Phillip recently returned from Alicante, Spain, but had a horrible experience at the airport on her way back to the UK Shaughna Phillips detailed her travelling nightmare while on the way back from Alicante Airport this week. The Love Island star was on holiday with her family when the incident unfolded, prompting her to take to her Instagram Stories to share travel advice with her many followers. The TV personality revealed there was an abnormal number of travellers at the airport, with 'snaking queues' reaching the back of the airport. However, she soon discovered a travel hack that got her entire family through the line without having to wait for hours. "I've had loads of messages asking me about Alicante Airport and what happened because they're going to be using it. So, I thought I would jump on here quickly and tell you all because I did have a solid bit of advice," she said. It comes after a Brit abroad slams all-inclusive hotel food asking 'what on earth is this?' She had a flight at 11:20am and arrived at the airport at 9am, but still had to 'run to the gates'. The reality star said they were sat by the gate for only five minutes before the flight started boarding. "So we had no time, no shops, no wee breaks," the TV personality revealed. "When we got there it was like I've never see it before. "It was like Selfridge's on Christmas morning with people queueing everywhere and you couldn't even tell where the queue started that you needed to be in. "The queue for the EasyJet desk was about 30-35 minutes queue and it snaked like it was way out the barriers to where it was supposed to be. And that wasn't just EasyJet either." The star said every single check-in and baggage drop desk was busy "apart from Jet2 because nothing beats a Jet2 holiday". The star went on to reveal there was another long queue that went "all the way back to the end of the airport". She left her father-in-law in the queue to walk around with her baby and noticed there was a VIP fast track that bypassed the whole queue if travellers paid 10 euros to get through. Shaughna said there was a black sign with a QR code at the front of the queue that has the information on the VIP queue. Shaughna returned from her holiday this week and told fans she was "ready for an exciting few weeks/months". She said: "I feel like my life has somewhat been put on hold for the last few years, and it's finally coming to an end, only good times ahead." The star later returned to her page to share her reality check moment. She wrote: "One minute you're laying by the pool and the next minute you're in Kennington getting a blood test, life comes at you fast."

'We've been delayed 4 hours after easyJet plane collision - and only given £3 voucher'
Harriet Morphy-Morris was among the hundreds of passengers to be impacted by the two easyJet planes colliding at Manchester Airport, which caused delays throughout Friday A holidaymaker who has been delayed more than four hours after two easyJet planes collided into each other has spoken of her "frustration" at only being given a £3 food and drink voucher by the airline. Harriet Morphy-Morris had been due to fly back to Manchester from Gibraltar but is instead facing long delays after two easyJet aircrafts "clipped wings" on the runway early on Friday. The flights, due to take off at around 6:15am, were bound for Gibraltar and Paris, respectively, but after the collision passengers were forced to disembark. Flights were temporarily stopped as a precaution at Manchester Airport, with easyJet arranging for replacement aircrafts to take affected passengers to their eventual destinations. As a result of the disruption, Harriet and her partner have been stuck at Gibraltar Airport and have been told their scheduled 10:55am flight will now not depart until 3:15pm. READ MORE: Moment family attacks woman complaining over child kicking chair on flight The 27-year-old, who has been in Gibraltar since Wednesday, told Mirror Online that impacted passengers have been told very little, with each person offered a mere £3 voucher to spend on food or drink. Harriet says the voucher was enough for her to purchase a coffee, while her partner bought a Coke. Food options she could have purchased include a "small chocolate bar or a packet of crisps, but then no drink". Harriet, a Tech Commerce Content Editor for central affiliates at Reach, said: "We have not been told anything by easyJet. Just that we are delayed and here is a £3 voucher. It's a £3 voucher per person I believe. "It's a little bit frustrating. I know what Gibraltar Airport is like and it really isn't that big at all. There is one café. There is only one flight a day so if this one is further delayed or is cancelled there probably won't be anything else." Harriet, who lives near Chester, has been waiting by the gate for a number of hours, along with around 80 other people. "There is lots of waiting around," she said. "A table next to us, who were a family of four with a teenager who looked around 14, the mum said she couldn't even get a water with the voucher." She added: "People around are starting to seem a little more frustrated, and there's seven different families I can see with small kids. Again, the one thing which is strange, no communication from easyJet apart from updated times on the app and food voucher hand out." After the two planes "clipped wings", airport staff carried out safety checks of the surrounding area before flights were able to resume. One image shared online shows a worker with part of an easyJet wing in his hand as the debris of the collision is cleared. One flyer, who was due to travel to Marbella, said: "Just on the plane at Manchester Airport and another plane has just hit our wing and took the wing off." Another said: "Not the best start to the day for easyJet with two of their planes apparently colliding at Manchester Airport, half a wingtip missing from one!" An easyJet spokesperson said: "EasyJet can confirm that the wing tips of two aircraft came into contact whilst taxiing to the runway at Manchester Airport this morning. The aircraft returned to stand to disembark customers who have been provided with refreshment vouchers whilst replacement aircraft are arranged to operate the flights. We apologise to customers for the delay to their flights. The safety of our passengers and crew is our highest priority." The Mirror has contacted easyJet regarding the value of the food and drink vouchers given to impacted customers.
