‘We panicked': Mother of Zara Qairina says no clear explanation before refusing post-mortem
According to a report on New Straits Times, the 45-year-old said there had been no clear explanation of the procedure at the time.
'There was no clear explanation, and we are not familiar with this kind of case. We panicked, and no advice was given about the post-mortem process,' she reportedly wrote in a Facebook comment.
'If we had known, we would not have signed the form refusing the post-mortem,' she reportedly added.
Her lawyer, Hamid Ismail, reportedly confirmed that the Facebook account under the handle 'Noie AiDa' belongs to her.
Yesterday, Bukit Aman said police had failed to comply with procedure by not initiating a post-mortem, though Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar noted that Noraidah had signed a hospital-issued waiver.
Zara died on July 17 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital here. She was found unconscious on July 16 after allegedly falling from the third floor of her school hostel in Papar, Sabah.

LARUT: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed that those responsible for the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir will be brought to justice, stressing that no individual involved will be allowed to escape accountability. Lawyers welcome police probe, call for stern action if SOP breached

In a joint statement, the lawyers — Hamid Ismail, Shahlan Jufri, Rizwandean M Borhan, Mohd Luqman Syazwan Zabidi, Mohd Syarulnizam Mohd Salleh and Farrah Nasser — welcomed the disciplinary probe by Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS). They said the #JusticeForZara movement, which has gained nationwide support, reflected public concern that proper legal procedures were not observed after Zara's death on 17 July. The legal team urged the Royal Malaysia Police to treat the case as a reminder to ensure all investigations into suspicious deaths are handled with full transparency and in strict compliance with standard operating procedures.
