Two hundred and fifty drivers have graduated from the first round of Egypt's national road safety programme, 'Conscious Driver… Safe Road,' which was launched on July 28th 2025 to enhance professional driving standards.
The programme included both theoretical and practical training covering advanced driving techniques, traffic rules and signals, emergency handling, preventive maintenance, minor breakdowns, and behavioural and psychological awareness to strengthen discipline and commitment among drivers. Trainees who completed the course were awarded accredited certificates.
The Ministry of Transport reported strong interest in the initiative, with more than 700 drivers applying. Applicants were grouped according to license category: first, second, and third class, with the first phase dedicated to first-class license holders. Of these, 250 were selected and divided into 10 groups to ensure quality training and proper evaluation.
Graduates will now join transport companies under the ministry, including EGBUS, SuperJet, East Delta Bus Company, West and Middle Delta Bus Company, and Nile Cargo Transport. The initiative reflects ongoing national efforts to improve road safety, particularly in the wake of a deadly Regional Ring Road accident in June that killed 18 young women.

Egypt launches free training programme for bus, heavy transport drivers - Urban & Transport

The Ministry of Transport has launched a free training and qualification programme for bus and heavy transport drivers, inviting those interested in such careers to apply and benefit from job opportunities at its affiliated companies. In a statement issued Monday, the ministry announced that the programme—An Aware Driver for a Safer Road—will be held at the Driver Training Centre in 6 October City. The centre operates under the supervision of the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport. The programme aims to equip drivers with safe and responsible driving skills, improve road safety, reduce accidents, enhance operational efficiency in land transport, and provide employment opportunities both inside and outside Egypt. According to the ministry, the programme reflects a broader push to raise safety standards across the transport sector and support the development of Egypt's land transport system. Trainees will receive instruction on safe driving practices and traffic laws, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting, professional driving and emergency response, as well as broader topics like professional awareness and social responsibility. Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir called on young people with educational qualifications—whether intermediate, above-intermediate, or university degrees—who are interested in bus and truck driving careers to apply and take advantage of the programme's benefits. Participants who complete the training will receive an accredited certificate from the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport and will be eligible for employment in the ministry's affiliated transport companies. The companies include the Upper Egypt Transport and Tourism Company (EGBUS), West and Middle Delta Bus Company for Transport and Tourism, East Delta Bus Company for Transport and Tourism, Arab Union for Land Transport (SuperJet), ACTA Mass Transport Company, Egyptian BRT Bus Company, Capital Taxi Company, and Nile Cargo Transport Company. Job placements will offer competitive salaries, contingent on successful completion of the training. The Driver Training Centre is located on Wahat Road in 6 October City, in front of the wholesale market and adjacent to the Public Transport Authority. People can inquire and register by calling 01003756385, with priority given to those registered first. The programme comes in the wake of renewed national attention to transport safety, following the 27 June crash on the Regional Ring Road that killed 18 girls and young women aged 14 to 23 from Kafr El Sanabisah. The victims were headed to agricultural day jobs to support their families when their microbus was struck by a heavy truck. Built between 2012 and 2018, the Regional Ring Road has experienced a surge in freight traffic and multiple fatal accidents in recent weeks, prompting authorities to prioritize safety upgrades. On 16 July, the Ministry of Transport announced that a significant section of the highway will be closed until Friday, 1 August, for urgent safety improvements.
