2025 Washington Football Predictions: Huskies Ranked 49th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136

This isn't your average college football ranking.
My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list:
Who do I think is good?
Why do I think they're good?
What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations?
Here is a look at where Washington lands in my Ultimate 136.
Washington ranking: 49
Last year's ranking: 83
Top player: QB Demond Williams Jr.: In his two starts last season, he threw for a combined 575 yards with 5 TDs and just 1 interception with an 82.7% completion rate.

RJ's take: The Huskies need to win their first three games, including their always-entertaining Apple Cup matchup with Washington State, if they expect to be taken seriously by the College Football Playoff selection committee. The schedule includes Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon, Illinois and Michigan.

But a generational quarterback might be able to help the Huskies win some of those games, as Demond Williams has that kind of talent. With Denzel Boston returning and Penn State receiver Omari Evans joining the team, he'll have weapons on the outside. If Jonah Coleman can rush for 1,000 yards and 10 scores again, yes, the Huskies might be good.

House Judiciary Committee requests briefings from NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB commissioners on broadcast blackouts
After decades of the four biggest professional leagues in the United States receiving a broadcasting antitrust exemption, the House Judiciary Committee may be looking to alter that law. The committee has formally requested briefings with the commissioners of four of the U.S.'s main professional leagues with the intention of discussing broadcasting markets and blackout exemptions. In a statement released Monday, the Judiciary Committee included the letters sent out to each of the four commissioners: Adam Silver (NBA), Roger Goodell (NFL), Gary Bettman (NHL) and Rob Manfred (MLB). Per the statement, the committee plans to meet with the commissioners to discuss the Sports Broadcasting Act (SBA), a law that gives sports leagues an antitrust exemption for broadcasting games on network television. The SBA, which was passed in 1961, was originally passed in order to help the NFL organize its broadcast rights as a collective, streamlining the process. But now, per the statement, the House is looking into "the sufficiency of existing law" in terms of the current broadcast landscape. "The current state of the sports broadcasting market has changed considerably since the 1960s. The majority of sports viewership now occurs outside of traditional network broadcasting," the committee writes in the statement. "As a result, most of the distribution agreements that a sports league enters into are subject to antitrust challenges, while a narrow subset are not, creating legal uncertainty, distorting the market, and effectively expanding the blind spot for potential antitrust violations." The request was made by two Republican representatives: Jim Jordan (R-OH), the House Judiciary Committee Chairman, and Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI), the chairman of the Subcommittee on the Administrative State, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust. Two Democratic representatives, Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and Jerry Nadley (D-NY) were also named in the letters; both are ranking members of the Judiciary Committee. In the letters, the committee requests that the commissioners speak on their individual league's "participation in the sports broadcasting market and related matters." Silvers, Goodell, Bettman and Manfred are asked to arrange for the briefing before Aug. 25.

View more Video Transcript The college football season is here, which means soon some of the best players in all the land will be striking a pose. No, I'm not talking about Vogue and Madonna. We're talking about the Heisman. So Ben, give me some of the favorites out there to be in New York at the end of the season. Yeah, no surprise picks, right? Arch Manning at Texas, the favorite right now, plus 600, as you would expect, one of the most hyped prospects coming in. We've seen him play a little bit in previous seasons, but now he's got the reins at Texas, which should be an amazing team. And they get to face week one Ohio State. So you're going to see right off the bat, he's gonna have a chance to potentially take that Heisman leap, and we'll see where his odds go depending on his performance. LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, the second choice, tied with Clemson quarterback Cade Klumnik at 9 to 1. And then Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith at 10 to 1. Always difficult for wide receivers to win the Heisman. Not many have done it over the past 15 to 20 years, but he's arguably the best offensive player in the country. Barely guardable, I would say. If anyone in college football can do it, can they get him the ball enough is going to be the question. Can he put up those stats to compete with the other quarterbacks? What about a dark horse that's maybe a little off the beaten path? Yeah, I think South Carolina quarterback Lenori Sellers is 16 to 1. Florida quarterback DJ Lagway is also taking some money. He's down to 18 to 1. And I know our guy Corby Craig at Yahoo likes Avery Johnson from Kansas State at 40 to 1. Part of the reason as well, he gets that week one game, that showcase game on ESPN against Iowa State. So if he comes out big in that game, you're not gonna see those 40 to 1 odds last very long. Yeah, we're always looking for Heisman moments, and you're right, that's a great one to give, but maybe it'll give us some Vogue in the meantime also. Close

College football betting - Who are the national title favorites?

View more Video Transcript The college football season is finally here, and that means we get to talk about national championships. Ben, who's the favorite right now? Texas fits, uh, as you would expect, right? No, this, uh, this hasn't happened in a long time. Texas is the favorite, plus 500 at Bet MGM. Ohio State just behind them, plus 525, with Georgia and Penn State at 7 to 1, Oregon and Clemson, the next best odds at 9 to 1. Uh, Alabama 10 to 1, Notre Dame 12 to 1, and we'll certainly see a lot of movement, right? Texas plays Ohio State week one. Ohio State 2.5 to 3 point favorite, depending on the book that you're looking at. So one's gonna rise a little bit, one will fall a little bit after that first week. I think Clemson's another fascinating one. They opened at 30 to 1 at one sportsbook out in Vegas. They're now down to 12 to 1 there. One oddsmaker told me it's been kind of an off-season love affair with Clemson. Another book said his highest liability is on Clemson, so a lot of bets as well for Clemson at a couple different books. It's amazing how many huge brands you've already named in this, so it's gonna be an exciting year. Where's the money going right now? Yeah, a lot of, I, I think even though you have the 12-team college football playoff, bets really only think they're, you know, 4 to 6 teams that really have a realistic chance at winning, right? They're just, there's kind of the cream of the crop. And so at Bet MGM, as you would kind of expect, Texas number one in bets, Texas number one in money, Texas, the biggest liability at Bet MGM. You also have Penn State, though, Ohio State and Clemson as some of those teams with the most bets, and fifth, Notre Dame. Uh, but for a lot of, you know, I think you always like to measure the liability, right? What do the sportsbooks stand to lose? Texas number one liability like. Like I said, Penn State number two, Clemson three, LSU and Alabama, who you kind of forget, Alabama still, still out there, you know, they've been rising a little bit. We're 12 to 1 last week, now 10 to 1 at Bet MGM, but Texas is certainly the one that they want to avoid right now, even with those short odds. Let's go full Dumb and Dumber. So you're telling me there's a chance. Like, give me a, give me a long shot that can make a surprise run. I said, why not South Carolina, right? This is a quarterback-driven sport, and certainly, Lenora Sellers is a potential Heisman quarterback, Heisman candidate. We saw him put it together against Clemson last year and had some big performances, and South Carolina, they play seven projected top 21 teams by Bill Connolly's SP+ in their final nine games. So, in other words, they're gonna have the schedule to prove it. Whether or not they win enough of those games to make the playoff and make a run is a different question, but they'll have the spotlight, they'll have the schedule, they just need the results. Just what everybody needed, a Cinderella from the SEC. It's gonna be a wild season. Close
