2025 Washington Football Predictions: Huskies Ranked 49th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136

College Football 2025 Washington Football Predictions: Huskies Ranked 49th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136 Published Aug. 10, 2025 10:26 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link This isn't your average college football ranking. My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list: Who do I think is good? Why do I think they're good? What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations? Here is a look at where Washington lands in my Ultimate 136. Washington ranking: 49 Last year's ranking: 83 Top player: QB Demond Williams Jr.: In his two starts last season, he threw for a combined 575 yards with 5 TDs and just 1 interception with an 82.7% completion rate. [Washington's 2025 schedule] RJ's take: The Huskies need to win their first three games, including their always-entertaining Apple Cup matchup with Washington State, if they expect to be taken seriously by the College Football Playoff selection committee. The schedule includes Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon, Illinois and Michigan. ADVERTISEMENT But a generational quarterback might be able to help the Huskies win some of those games, as Demond Williams has that kind of talent. With Denzel Boston returning and Penn State receiver Omari Evans joining the team, he'll have weapons on the outside. If Jonah Coleman can rush for 1,000 yards and 10 scores again, yes, the Huskies might be good. [Check out RJ Young's Ultimate 136 College Football Rankings here] Washington Win Total Odds: Over 7.5 (+104) Under 7.5 (-128) Have an issue with my rankings? Previewing the Washington Huskies heading into 2025

Following a run to the national championship game in 2023, Washington lost coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama, saw most of its top players move on to the NFL and transitioned to the Big Ten Conference. With many moving pieces, the Huskies dropped to 6-7 last season, an expected regression in their first year led by coach Jedd Fisch. Washington is expected to see improvement this season, with a win total set at 7.5 and a more manageable schedule. Here's a breakdown of the Huskies heading into 2025. 2024 in review Washington sustained its first major set back with a loss to Washington State in the Apple Cup, finishing the nonconference slate 2-1. The Huskies earned impressive wins over Michigan and USC, but also picked up an unexpected loss to Rutgers and lost by multiple scores to Oregon, Penn State and Indiana. The season was capped off with a loss to Louisville in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl. Poor offensive line play dragged down a unit with skill position talent, while the defense faced it's share of struggles. Head coach profile Fisch struggled in his first year with the Huskies but previously led a major turnaround at Arizona, guiding the Wildcats from 1-11 in his first season to 10-3 two years later. He finished with a 16-21 record in three seasons in Tucson. Prior to head coaching roles, Fisch has lots of experience as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Top offensive players Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. impressed after taking over the starting role from Will Rogers, and he's earning some offseason hype heading into the season. Williams has explosive play ability and is dangerous with his legs, but if the offensive line play doesn't improve significantly, he may struggle. Joining him in the backfield is running back Jonah Coleman, who rushed for over 1,000 yards last season after following Fisch from Arizona and should continue that success in 2025. At wide receiver, Denzel Boston returns after racking up 63 receptions for 834 yards and nine touchdowns last season. This trio could produce some major offensive firepower if given time to operate. Top defensive player Though he didn't initially follow Fisch to Washington, cornerback Tacario Davis transferred in from Arizona this offseason and has the potential to be the star of the defense. Davis recorded 43 tackles and six passes defended en route to second-team All-Big 12 honors last seaosn. Additionally, he was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, presented annually to the top defensive back nationally. 2025 schedule

Where does Oregon vs. Washington rank among best rivalries in college football?

The world of college football has changed dramatically over the last five seasons, but one thing that hasn't changed is the heated rivalry between the Oregon Ducks and the Washington Huskies. Getting a victory over the Huskies, and vice versa, is perhaps the most satisfying win of the season for both fan bases. The hatred runs deep, and with the move to the Big Ten Conference, this particular rivalry might have surpassed the Civil War for the Ducks and the Apple Cup for the Huskies. In their Top 100 list of rivalries in college football, The Athletic has this game as No. 21, falling just outside the Top 20. But for those who have been intimately involved with this rivalry between the Ducks and the Dawgs, the feelings alone make this Top 10 material. Overall, the Huskies lead the series 63-45-5. Washington dominated the 1970s and 1980s, accounting for the disparity in the record, but the Ducks' success in the century is helping to make up some of that ground. Oregon won last year's game 49-21 to secure its perfect 12-0 regular season. The two programs are joined at the hip in some ways, as they just can't stay away from each other. When it was obvious the Pac-12 was going to make a significant shift and narrowly disband, the Ducks and Huskies joined forces, for a brief second, to make the move to the Big Ten Conference and keep the rivalry going. But once that move was complete, they could resume the rivalry. Both teams have experienced wins over one another in recent years, and both have had playoff wins. They've also had some coaching changes with a varying degree of success, but with Dan Lanning in Eugene and Jedd Fisch in Seattle, both programs seem to have found their guy for years to come. Whether it will turn into a Rich Brooks vs. Don James rivalry on the sideline remains to be seen, but it would be a good page in this storied game to have two coaches go at it on the sidelines and in the recruiting world. It would also add to the history of the Big Ten, which is no stranger to watching two coaches at big-time programs go head-to-head for decades. Pac-12 inks TV deals for Oregon St., Wazzu home games

Oregon State and Washington State home football games will be back on The CW this coming season, with CBS and ESPN also in the mix, as part of a media rights deal the Pac-12 Conference signed with the three networks. The Pac-12 made the deals with an eye toward the 2026 season, when the league will add five current members of the Mountain West Conference -- Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State, Colorado State and Boise State -- along with Gonzaga from the West Coast Conference. Gonzaga does not have a football program, so to qualify for the NCAA's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), the Pac-12 will need to bring in at least one additional full-time member with a football program. The CW will handle nine games while ESPN and CBS (along with Paramount+) will get two games apiece. In 2024, The CW broadcast nine games, with the other four shown on Fox. In Week 2 on Sept. 6, The CW will showcase previews of the new Pac-12 with Washington State hosting San Diego State and Fresno State visiting Oregon State. Washington State and Oregon State will meet in a home-and-home series in November. ESPN will broadcast Cal at Oregon State on Aug. 30 and Houston at Oregon State on Sept. 26. CBS has the Apple Cup on Sept. 20 featuring Washington State at Washington and Washington State at Oregon State on Nov. 1. Financial terms were not disclosed for the deal. Despite having just two schools in the conference in 2024, Pac-12 football averaged 431,000 viewers over 12 telecasts last season on The CW and 1.99 million on the two Fox games. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

Pac-12 announces TV deal with The CW, CBS and ESPN for 2025

SAN RAMON, Calif. — The Pac-12 announced a television deal for the 2025 football season that will put all of the home games for Washington State and Oregon State on The CW Network, CBS or ESPN. The conference announced the deal on Tuesday, saying that the The CW will air nine of the games, with CBS and ESPN getting two games each. This is the final season with just Washington State and Oregon State in the Pac-12. The conference is expanding in 2026 to add Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Utah State and San Diego State for all sports and Gonzaga for everything except football. The Pac-12 still needs to add at least one more football school for 2026. The conference is working on a long-term TV deal to start in 2026. ESPN will air Oregon State's home games against California on Aug. 30 and Houston on Sept. 26. CBS will show the Apple Cup between Washington State and Washington on Sept. 20 and the first matchup between Oregon State and Washington State on Nov. 1. The remainder will be on The CW. In the first year with just two teams in the conference, the Pac-12 aired 11 of its home football games on The CW, with the other two on Fox. The games on The CW averaged 431,000 viewers, with the two on Fox getting an average of 1.99 million, according to the Pac-12. ___ AP college football: and
