Pac-12 announces TV deal with The CW, CBS and ESPN for 2025
The conference announced the deal on Tuesday, saying that the The CW will air nine of the games, with CBS and ESPN getting two games each.
This is the final season with just Washington State and Oregon State in the Pac-12. The conference is expanding in 2026 to add Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Utah State and San Diego State for all sports and Gonzaga for everything except football. The Pac-12 still needs to add at least one more football school for 2026.
The conference is working on a long-term TV deal to start in 2026.
ESPN will air Oregon State's home games against California on Aug. 30 and Houston on Sept. 26. CBS will show the Apple Cup between Washington State and Washington on Sept. 20 and the first matchup between Oregon State and Washington State on Nov. 1. The remainder will be on The CW.
In the first year with just two teams in the conference, the Pac-12 aired 11 of its home football games on The CW, with the other two on Fox. The games on The CW averaged 431,000 viewers, with the two on Fox getting an average of 1.99 million, according to the Pac-12.

We will see where the truth leads. Even if the story turns out to be nothing, it's still a remarkable plot point near the end of the 2025 college football offseason.

Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer is denying he has ever bet on sports after screenshots began circulating online showing he made and received Venmo payments with "sports gambling" listed as the reason for the expense. Mateer was at Washington State at the time and the Venmo transactions were with a teammate. After a strong season at Washington State last year, Mateer transferred to Oklahoma and will be the Sooners' starter this year. Another strong season would elevate Mateer's stock in the 2026 NFL draft. But involvement in gambling could throw Mateer's football career into jeopardy, and after the screenshots went viral he claimed the "sports gambling" references in his Venmo payments were jokes. "The allegations that I once participated in sports gambling are false," Mateer wrote on social media. "My previous Venmo descriptions did not accurately portray the transactions in question but were instead inside jokes between me and my friends. I have never bet on sports. I understand the seriousness of the matter but recognize that, taken out of context, those Venmo descriptions suggest otherwise. I can assure my teammates, coaches, and officials at the NCAA that I have not engaged in any sports gambling." Oklahoma released a statement acknowledging the matter. "OU takes any allegations of gambling seriously and works closely with the NCAA in any situation of concern. OU Athletics is unaware of any NCAA investigation and has no reason to believe there is one pending," the statement said. Between Mateer's excellent season at Washington State last year and his importance to Oklahoma this year, he was viewed by many as the most significant transfer in all of college football this offseason. Now he's a significant player for another reason, as the proliferation of sports gambling leads to increased scrutiny on players' activities.

'The allegations that I once participated in sports gambling are false,' Mateer said in a statement Tuesday on social media. 'My previous Venmo descriptions did not accurately portray the transactions in question but were instead inside jokes between me and my friends.' Mateer, who was at Washington State during the time in question, said he can understand why the Venmo descriptions could lead one to believe otherwise, so he decided to set the record straight. 'I have never bet on sports,' he said. 'I understand the seriousness of the matter, but recognize that, taken out of context, those Venmo descriptions suggest otherwise. I can assure my teammates, coaches, and officials at the NCAA that I have not engaged in any sports gambling.' In a statement, Oklahoma said it uses ProhiBet for comprehensive monitoring of sports gambling activities. 'OU takes any allegations of gambling seriously and works closely with the NCAA in any situations of concern,' the statement said. Mateer followed former Washington State offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle to Oklahoma this past offseason.
