Leonardo DiCaprio preaches about saving the planet after being branded a 'hypocrite' over Jeff Bezos wedding

Daily Mail18 hours ago
Leonardo DiCaprio has preached about environmental efforts on Monday despite being branded as a 'hypocrite' for jetting to Jeff Bezos ' extravagant wedding over the past weekend.
The Oscar winner, 50 - who was joined by girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti for the star-studded nuptials - jumped to his main Instagram page to give an update about a Chilean island called Guafo which is 'now protected.'
It comes after fans recently called out the Hollywood actor - who is known for his environmental advocacy - for flying to Venice to attend the wedding of Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.
Along with sharing a picture of the island, Leonardo explained that it has been purchased by a private owner - which will now keep it 'protected from coal mining, timber logging and other destructive industries.'
The area will also become a national park and the star further penned that Guafo Island is 'critical to global biodiversity and the overall health of our planet.'
DailyMail.com has reached out to DiCaprio's rep for comment.
Leonardo DiCaprio, 50, has shared a post about environmental efforts on Monday despite being branded as a 'hypocrite' for jetting to Jeff Bezos ' extravagant wedding over the past weekend; seen in April in Las Vegas
Leonardo added that the island houses 'breeding populations of seabirds' and also 'boasts Magellanic Penguins and a breeding population of Endangered Marine Otters...'
The Titanic star has previously been open about his activism and a few months earlier in March, he slammed the Albanese government for giving the green light to a mine expansion in Western Australia.
Over on Reddit, social media users called out DiCaprio for being a 'hypocrite' after her flew to Italy just days ago for the Bezos-Sanchez wedding and slammed him for supporting Bezos amid Amazon's substantial carbon footprint.
One penned, 'Leo is a great actor but I never believed that nonsense about him caring about the environment.'
Another wrote, 'Because he's a hypocrite. He wants us to believe that he's environmentally frugal so that he can fly his private jets and use his private yachts. Leonardo DiCaprio has always been a hypocrite and a phony.
'Anyone who uses a private jet and a private yacht everywhere they go does not care about the environment. He wants us to limit our usage so he can continue with his extravagance,' they added.
A fan also shared, 'Wealthy/famous people like this assume their influence on others outweighs the damages they cause personally. As if they are carbon neutral on the backs of others personal sacrifices.'
'Wow. But he's always been a hypocrite about environmentalism,' one additionally penned.

Another typed, 'The way any good done by one person recycling for a year is undone by a private jet flight (of which many were probably taken to get to this d**n wadding) makes me feel so cynical and jaded tbh.'
It is not known if DiCaprio took a private jet to the Bezos-Sanchez wedding.
DiCaprio has often been vocal about the environment and climate change.
Late last year, he notably presented the 2024 Hilton Humanitarian Prize to Amazon Frontlines during a glitzy event.
And ahead of his 50th birthday, the star also completed renovations on his eco-friendly compound in the Hollywood Hills.
He has also launched his own foundation due to the 'planetary crisis' which is described as 'a convergence of accelerating climate change, unprecedented loss of biodiversity, and increasing human health issues caused by a toxic environment,' per the official website.
Back in 2022, the Oscar winner reflected on the effect of climate change during an interview with Deadline.
'I've had two great passions in my life. That has been acting, and the protection of the natural world and getting the message out about the climate crisis. I've had a foundation for 20 years.'
He later added, 'I think there's a worldwide sense of anxiety about the fact that the powers that be, the private sector, governments, are not making the transition fast enough. We literally have a nine-year window.'
While the star is known for his advocacy for the environment, he has also been called out in the past as well.
Earlier this year in January, both he and his supermodel girlfriend flew on a private jet to Mexico amid the deadly Los Angeles wildfires.
And most recently, the couple were spotted in Venice over the past weekend for a three-day wedding extravaganza as Bezos and Sanchez tied the knot.
Leonardo was seen keeping a low profile alongside the star-studded guest list - which also included Orlando Bloom, Kim Kardashian, Tom Brady and Sydney Sweeney.
One day earlier on Sunday, the Inception actor was spotted leaving Venice while at the airport and kept it casual for the day of travel.
He kept his face concealed by donning a black hoodie as well as a pair of gray shorts and white sneakers.
According to The Guardian, over 90 jets flew into the airport in the romantic city as celebrities attended the nuptials.
Jeff and Lauren's wedding reportedly cost $20 million - which also faced protests in the city of Venice.

EXCLUSIVE The secret A-list insider working to reunite Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin after their shock split

It was the perfect pairing: a handsome British singer and a glamorous Hollywood star – and for eight years, Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson seemed on course for a happy ending. But three weeks ago, sources close to the former couple confirmed the pair's love story had flamed out – leaving Dakota 'devastated'. Now the Daily Mail can reveal one person still hasn't given up on the couple – the actress's mom Melanie Griffith who thinks the split is a 'huge mistake' and is working behind the scenes to bring them back together. A well-placed source told the Daily Mail: 'Melanie is desperately working behind the scenes to save Dakota's strained relationship with Chris. 'She's convinced that they are meant to be together and isn't giving up on them. She thinks her daughter is making a huge mistake and needs to meet Chris halfway. 'Melanie has always felt a kinship with Chris, he's like a son to her.' Dad-of-two Martin, 48, and acting royalty Dakota, 35, were first spotted together in 2017 and were most recently seen in May. The relationship had weathered multiple break-ups and make-ups according to sources, and the pair reportedly even became engaged in 2020. Dakota – whose dad is movie icon Don Johnson – even became close to Martin's two children, Apple and Moses, who he had with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow. Last year, she told glossy magazine Bustle: 'I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart.' But that wasn't enough to prevent trouble in paradise with sources telling the Daily Mail that the pair had been having 'the same issues for some time'. While the couple themselves have called time, Griffith, 67, has refused to concede defeat and is now badgering the pair to get relationship therapy, as well as woo-woo 'energy work' in a bid to get them back on track. An insider dished: 'Melanie has been seeking advice from her friends in the healing community, mostly in the Malibu area. 'She's been trying to get Dakota and Chris to work with a non-traditional couple's therapist who incorporates energy work to help detect and detach generational trauma. 'She said all they need is some laser focus guidance to set them straight once and for all.' But while Griffith – who has a checkered relationship history of her own that includes divorcing Johnson twice and a high-profile marriage to actor Antonio Banderas – is dead set on saving Dakota's relationship, she is nervous of appearing 'meddlesome'. The insider added: 'Melanie doesn't want to be the meddlesome mother, but she has years of recovery and practices a solid spiritual program. 'She said she's coming from a place of authentic love for her daughter, rather than control. 'She wants them both to be happy, if they'd just leave their egos at the door and lead with their hearts.' That may be a tall order at the moment with rocker Martin currently touring with his band Coldplay while Dakota has been promoting her ironically named comedy Splitsville. As a result, sources say the pair have been leading increasingly separate lives with Martin playing dates in Las Vegas, Denver, and El Paso in the last three weeks alone. Also on the schedule are stops in Toronto, Nashville, and Miami next month, plus a succession of August dates at London's Wembley Stadium and a two-night stop in the down-at-heel Yorkshire town of Hull. Johnson is also promoting a second movie – romantic comedy Materialists in which she stars opposite Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. The movie was released amid the split drama on June 13 and has grossed $24million in the US and Canada to date and $7million worldwide.

Poker Face – Season 2 Episode 10 'The Big Pump' Recap & Review

Episode 10 The Murder Episode 10 of Poker Face Season 2 begins in a gym run by a man named Brick, who claims the place is all-natural and environmentally sustainable. He's approached by one of his members, Rodney, who wants to get ripped quickly. His high school reunion is coming up and he wants to impress. He's also seen the other members talk about the 'good stuff' they get from Brick and wants in on it, even if it's drugs. Brick agrees and goes inside his office, where we see bills scattered on his desk. He tells his wife Lily that he needs more of the 'good stuff' which turns out to be breast milk! His wife works at a birth centre and steals breast milk from there for a few select gym members. Turns out, Brick really needs the money. However, when Lily realises it's for Rodney, she reminds Brick that Rodney is a health inspector. So, Brick gives Rodney a bag of whey instead. But two weeks later, Rodney hasn't seen much improvement. He sees another gym member break the record and, when no one's looking, takes a sniff of his bottle. That evening, he confronts Brick about selling breast milk which is teeming with bacteria and stealing from mothers and babies. He tells Brick he's going to turn him in. Brick grabs the bottle from him and drains the liquid, leading to a fight between them. Brick throws a metal disc at him, which hits Rodney right in the throat. Knowing he will ruin his life, Brick lets Rodney pass out and then makes it look like he was doing a bench press. He then drops a heavy weight right on Rodney's neck, so his death seems like a bench press accident. Brick then waits till some other members find Rodney's body. The Investigation Charlie wakes up, still in Good Buddy's NYC apartment from the previous episode. She stretches and immediately cricks her neck. She heads to a café and bumps into Alex, the woman who gave her a free drink in the previous episode. They get to talking and when Charlie sees a flyer of Brick's gym, they go together. Brick fixes Charlie's neck in a second and then convinces the two women to take up his free 7-day trial. They get the gym's fitness tracking watches, which also let them become each other's friends on the app. Rodney sees Alex trying to bench press and warns her to always use a spotter. He chats with her and Charlie for a bit and leaves them when he spots one of the other gym members' drink bottles. Charlie leaves with a workout high and decides to go back the next day. But when she and Alex arrive, the police are all over the place. Alex thinks there's something suspicious about his death but Charlie, for once, wants to leave it alone. Alex asks about working out together anyway but Charlie says she's a lone wolf and would rather spend time on her own. When the gym reopens, Brick tells his wife that the milk is almost over but with the police around, she refuses to get more. Not wanting to lose his clientele, Brick starts giving them bottles with infant formula instead. At the gym, Charlie turns up to work out with Alex anyway. They spot one of the gym members, Kevin, complaining to Brick about the milk (although they don't know what he's talking about). Charlie tells Alex about her lie detection skills. Next time Brick goes by, Alex talks to him and Charlie realises he is lying about something. They snoop around and find the baby formula but don't think much of it since Brick's wife works at the birth centre. They're soon interrupted by Brick and scurry off but later on, Alex reveals she swiped Brick's key card and wants to snoop around at night. But Charlie knows how dangerous this can get and refuses to do so. When she's at the nearby café, she sees some of the gym members complaining of headaches and upset stomachs. She also sees a baby nearby and recognises that Kevin had the same smell as the baby when she had passed by him — the smell of breast milk! Charlie goes back and chats with Brick, learning from the conversation that he was lying about not being there at the gym the night Rodney died. She then taps her watch to Brick's, making them fitness friends. She hides in the sauna and goes through Brick's workout history, ultimately finding the leader board that shows Brick broke a new record at the time Rodney died. In her a-ha moment, she taps on it and 'hearts' the record. Brick gets the notification and realises she's on to him. He locks her inside the sauna, turns the heat up, and then rushes the other members out of the gym by claiming a gas leak. Charlie begins to do various exercises, which sends notifications to her fitness friend Alex. Alex sees the exercises and realises they spell out HALP. She figures it out and gets into the gym using Brick's card, managing to save Charlie just in time. But Brick catches them leaving and starts attacking them. He's going to deal a final blow when Lily shows up and he breaks down in tears. She tells the two women to call the police while she holds on to her wailing husband. Afterwards, Alex and Charlie go out for a bite and Charlie muses about how Alex hasn't told a single lie the whole time they spent together. Alex claims that she never lies, which is why she doesn't have friends, as most people can't handle the truth. Charlie then proclaims to be her friend. The Episode Review Episode 10 is another solid Poker Face episode. Interestingly, at first, you can't quite tell which of the two men is going to be murdered. It can swing either way and that unpredictability is nice! The rest of the episode has a couple of nice twists too, like the 'good stuff' being breast milk and Rodney being a health inspector. Like the other Poker Face episodes, the details really come into play here such as the fitness tracking watches and even Brick's tendency to not listen to what Rodney's actually saying. One minor gripe is that the end is wrapped up a bit too quickly, with Brick's wife turning on him way too fast. But aside from that, it's a tightly written, engaging episode. Even more so because Charlie is, for once, in the same place she was in the previous episode! It's an intriguing new phase for Charlie to be in the same area and in this one she's even gone and made a new friend. While the murder and investigation was pretty fun, the real question is what's going to Charlie do next? Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Jurassic World: Rebirth review — the best since Spielberg's original

What did Alfred Hitchcock famously say? 'To make a great film you need three things: the script, the script and the script'? This latest, and seventh, dino franchise entry may not be a 'great' film in Hitchcock's Vertigo, Rear Window, Psycho medium-defining sense of the word, but it's nonetheless the best instalment since the first Jurassic Park. And that's because of the script. The narrative reins have been restored to David Koepp, writer of Carlito's Way and Panic Room, who left the franchise after the second film, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, just when it was beginning to curdle. He returns here in some style, performing a miracle rescue job on a series that had dissolved into repetition due to its inability to answer one fundamental question: how do you make dinosaurs interesting in a dramatic environment in which they are unexceptional? The answer had previously been to make them bigger, more ferocious and more abundant. The most recent, and execrable, Jurassic World Dominion, concluded with humankind and dinosaurs sharing the planet. But Koepp cleverly flips that script and almost fully wipes them out again.
