Proper Seats & CCTVs: DTC's Bus Shelters Set For Revamp
New Delhi: Commuters in Delhi can expect a better and more comfortable public transport experience soon. Delhi govt is going to upgrade all the bus stands in the national capital with modern infrastructure, including proper seating, shade and sanitation.
Chief minister Rekha Gupta has directed immediate redevelopment of all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus stands. "A transportation system is truly effective only when it is accessible and convenient for commuters," she asserted.
A senior official of the transport department said that these upgraded shelters would have security features like CCTV cameras and panic buttons, among other amenities. The shelters will have ramps, tactile paths and handrails so that these can be easily accessed by those with reduced mobility.
They will also have demarcated areas for the elderly, women and persons with disabilities. There are also plans to install a route navigation map, the official added.
The condition of several bus stands in Delhi is not up to the mark. Rusted structures and missing seats are a common sight at these bus shelters.
Though the previous AAP govt planned to build 1,400 bus queue shelters three years ago, multiple tender negotiations between the transport department and prospective bidders yielded no results.

These shelters were likely to feature digital displays showing real-time bus information and enhanced security measures, including CCTV surveillance and panic buttons.
The official said that most of the bidders backed out because many of these bus shelters were in outer Delhi, which they did not find economically viable for earning through advertising. "The tender conditions will now be tweaked and floated again."
Meanwhile, Delhi govt plans to deploy 900 electric buses in the coming months as thousands of buses are due to be retired this year. Among the new buses that will be purchased are both twelve-metre and nine-metre buses. Another official said that the tender process and other formalities were over. "You will start seeing more new buses soon. Several other facilities are being planned which will minimise the inconveniences the bus commuters face," he added.
The total number of buses from both DTC and cluster fleets is around 7,500.

Israel struck world's largest gas field: All about South Pars in Iran; why it matters
Fire at South Pars gas field Iran has partially suspended production at South Pars, the world's largest gas field, due to a fire at one of its key processing units caused by an Israeli drone strike on Saturday, the Iranian media reported. The fire broke out in one of the four units of Phase 14 of South Pars, and led to a halt in the production of 12 million cubic metres of gas. — krassenstein (@krassenstein) The blaze has since been extinguished, according to the Iranian oil ministry. About South Pars An offshore site, South Pars is located in the Islamic Republic's southern Bushehr province. The world's largest natural gas reserve, Iran shares it with Qatar, where it is called the "North Field." Why South Pars matters to Iran? The field is responsible for the "lion's share" (around 66 per cent) of gas production in Iran, the world's third-largest producer after the United States and Russia. The country generates around 275 billion cubic metres of gas annually, or about 6.5 per cent of the global output. Due to international sanctions, most of this gas is consumed domestically, though some of it is exported to countries like Iraq. On the other hand, Qatar, with help from global energy firms such as Shell and ExxonMobil, exports 77 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas every year from the same field to Europe and Asia. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like California: Gov Will Cover Your Cost To Install Solar If You Live In These Zips SunValue Learn More Undo Why attack on South Pars is significant? Until now, under its Operation Rising Lion, launched on Thursday, Israel's focus was on the Iranian nuclear and military assets. Indeed, this would be Israel's first strike on the oil and gas sector of Iran. This would mark a major escalation in the conflict, as Iran could retaliate by targeting Israel's own oil and gas infrastructure. "The strike on South Pars was reckless. The attack threatens global energy security," news agency Reuters quoted a US official as saying. The crisis had already pushed oil prices up 9 per cent on Friday, the second day of clashes.
