‘The Summer I Turned Pretty' Season 3 Episode 6 Recap—Belly Slips Up
Spoilers ahead for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, Episode 6. Conrad and Belly are inching closer and closer together (sorry, Jelly fans). And while Conrad was the one who slipped up at the peach orchard in Episode 5, Belly's the one to blame in Seadon 3, Episode 6. Here's a full recap of what happened in the latest installment of Jenny Han's Prime Video series. Now that Jeremiah has his dad's approval for his wedding plans, Belly can stay with him at his dad's place in Boston. But after two weeks of her being there, Adam appears to be fed up with the living situation. Belly mentions that she and Jeremiah want to go apartment hunting but haven't had the time, so Adam tells Jeremiah to take the morning off. They find a perfect apartment unit near Finch's campus, but to get it, they must pass a background and credit check. While Belly has excellent credit, Jeremiah hints that his isn't so good. It turns out he has a secret credit card that his dad doesn't pay for, and he's been late on the payments. Instead, they look for a place to live that doesn't require a credit check, which forces them to look at some pretty gnarly apartments. Belly wants the first place they live in together to be perfect, but Jeremiah insists that they just need a temporary place to stay for the next semester. Why Does Belly Have Second Thoughts About The Wedding? Belly heads to Cousins and stumbles upon Conrad in the kitchen, eating chicken no less. He offers her some, but she says she's not hungry and goes straight to bed. The next morning, she has an appointment at the Cousins Beach Club with her new wedding coordinator. As she's running through the wedding details, Belly realizes that a lot of what she envisioned isn't going to happen, like serving lobster rolls, and she's reminded again that her mother likely won't be part of her special day. Belly calls Jeremiah at work and tells him she's having second thoughts about what they're doing. She says that everything is getting so big, and she feels as though the wedding plans are moving forward without them. She doesn't want to look at a sea of strangers on her wedding day, but Jeremiah assures her that it's all going to be okay. What's Going On Between Denise And Steven? At the office, Denise and Steven are now friendlier than ever. Denise says that she's going to Jeremiah's and Belly's wedding (now that all the partners will be there), which catches Steven off guard. She asks him what he's doing this weekend and if he wants to meet up. He says he can't because he has to drive to Belly's bridal shower. Meanwhile, Lucinda tells Taylor that Steven driving all that way to the shower could mean he's trying to get back together with her. Before the bridal shower, Denise shows up at Steven's apartment with a business proposal. She can't stop thinking about the game that he made, and she wants to get VC funding. 'I genuinely think that we would make a great team,' she insists. What Do Conrad And Laurel Talk About At Dinner? Belly returns from the club and finds Conrad outside the house, fixing the sprinklers. He tells her he made her some food — it's chicken, but he also included corn on the cob and a cookie. He asks if Laurel has changed her mind about going to the bridal shower, and Belly answers no. After Conrad opens the fridge and discovers that Belly never ate the food he made her, he texts Laurel asking to see her. They meet at a restaurant, where Conrad tells her he wants to talk about the wedding and why she should go. When she asks if he thinks Belly and Jeremiah should get married, he responds that he didn't say that. 'I think that they love each other,' he answers. 'And that they're gonna go through with this regardless of what anyone thinks. And I think Belly really needs her mom right now.' He mentions that her daughter isn't eating and is sad and alone while Jeremiah is in Boston. Conrad tells Laurel that if she isn't there for Belly, she's going to regret it for the rest of her life. When Laurel asks him when he will finally be happy, he responds that he'll be happy when the wedding is finally over and he's back at Stanford. What Happens At Belly's Bridal Shower? Belly arrives at Taylor's house, which is decorated with pink balloons for her bridal shower. Her college and high school friends are there, and she also spots another familiar face: her mom. They hug each other and start crying. 'I'm so happy you're here,' Belly says. She opens gifts from her friends, including a photo album with pictures of her and Jeremiah, and stationery with her new name: 'Isabel Fisher.' When asked if she plans to change her last name, Belly says she figured she would keep her name, just like her mom did. She opens a hot pink lingerie set from Lucinda, just as Steven walks through the door. Steven's shocked to see his mom there. They play a fun round of Jere trivia. In the final question, everyone's asked whether Belly knows the name of Jeremiah's first pet. Belly answers Rosie, then tells the story about how Jere found Rosie on the beach and she smothered him with kisses. But Steven says that's wrong — Conrad was actually the one who found Rosie. Belly opens up to Taylor about how overwhelmed she's feeling now that everything is becoming real with the shower and her meeting at the club. She admits that she's been so focused on planning the wedding that she forgot she's actually going to be someone's wife. Taylor says that Belly is lucky because she and Jeremiah know what they want. Taylor sees Steven texting Denise and asks what's going on between them. Taylor says she's happy for him if that's what he wants. Steven responds that he knew coming to the bridal shower was a mistake and that he thought they could be friends. Taylor assures him that they are friends and she's going to prove it by giving him the last of his mom's lemon squares. Before the shower is over, Laurel gives Belly her gift: airline gift cards for her honeymoon. 'There's a lot of the world to see, Belly,' her mom tells her. Belly decides to sleep at home that night, and she and her mom spend the evening watching musicals like Bye Bye Birdie, just like they did when she was growing up. In a flashback, we see a young Belly singing in the mirror, but in her narration, she says she wasn't singing to Conrad Birdie; she was singing to her Conrad, Conrad Fisher. 'But that's the past,' she thinks. 'Jeremiah, he's my future.' How Do Things Go Between Conrad, Jeremiah And Adam? In the car after the suit fitting, Adam tells the boys he has some news to share: he's seeing someone and wants to bring her to the wedding. He says she's sweet, kind and beautiful, and they "already know her." It's Kayleigh. Jeremiah says he's happy that his dad found someone who makes him happy, but Conrad is less enthusiastic. He questions Adam about when relationship with Kayleigh started. His father answers that they've liked each other for a long time but weren't serious until recently. Conrad knows that's a lie. The trio goes to dinner, where Conrad finally reveals to his dad and Jere that he got fired from his summer clinic, and that's why he's still in Cousins. They both take the news surprisingly well. Belly calls Jeremiah while he's at dinner and says she's so happy they can get married with her mom's support. She also mentions that during Jeremiah trivia, Steven tried to claim Conrad was the one who found Rosie. Jeremiah corrects her, saying it was Conrad who found her, and that he and Steven gave Conrad a hard time for crying after Rosie left. In her narration, Belly reflects on her fear that she got that small detail wrong, especially since she prides herself on knowing everything about Jeremiah's life. After dinner, Adam tells Jeremiah he wants him to go golfing with some of the partners tomorrow instead of heading back to Cousins, where Belly will be. Conrad is also going back to Cousins the next day, meaning Belly and Conrad will be alone together, again. What Happens Between Conrad And Belly At The End Of Episode 6? Belly returns the next day to the Cousins house, and she sees a shirtless Conrad grabbing his surfboard. While she's writing thank-you cards for her bridal shower, she hears him come back inside. He's limping and says he got cut by a fin, but he's okay. Belly doesn't believe him and runs upstairs to check on him. She sees a trail of blood, and Conrad is wincing in pain. When he tells her he can take care of it himself, she says he's not fine. She removes the towel to reveal a big gash on his leg. As she pours rubbing alcohol on the wound to clean it, Conrad rests his head on her. She wraps his leg. 'Thank you,' he says, inches away from her face. She looks down at his lips, only seconds away from kissing, when he asks if she could help him up. After Conrad walks away, Belly sits down in disbelief. "What just happened? What did I almost do?" her narration says. "This time wasn't like with the peaches. This time, it was all me." TIFF pulls documentary on 2023 Hamas attack from festival lineup, citing footage rights issue
NEW YORK (AP) — The Toronto International Film Festival has pulled from its lineup a documentary on Hamas' 2023 attack into Israel over what the festival says was a footage rights issue. Organizers for the festival acknowledged Tuesday that they withdrew Canadian filmmaker Barry Avrich's 'The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue' after initially offering the film a spot in the upcoming edition of TIFF. The film chronicles the story of retired Israeli Gen. Noam Tibon, whose efforts to save his family and others during the Oct. 7, 2023 attack was profiled in a '60 Minutes' segment. Representatives for the festival said in a statement that the film's invitation 'was withdrawn by TIFF because general requirements for inclusion in the festival, and conditions that were requested when the film was initially invited, were not met, including legal clearance of all footage.' 'The purpose of the requested conditions was to protect TIFF from legal implications and to allow TIFF to manage and mitigate anticipated and known risks around the screening of a film about highly sensitive subject matter, including potential threat of significant disruption,' the festival said. The filmmakers, though, say the festival is engaging in 'censorship' by denying the film a place in the festival. 'We are shocked and saddened that a venerable film festival has defied its mission and censored its own programming by refusing this film,' the filmmaking team said in a statement. 'Ultimately, film is an art form that stimulates debate from every perspective that can both entertain us and make us uncomfortable.' Deadline, which first reported the news, reported that a sticking point related to the identification and legal clearance of Hamas militants' own livestreaming of the attack. Festival organizers didn't respond to requests for further comment Wednesday. The filmmakers pledged to release the film regardless: 'We invite audiences, broadcasters and streamers to make up their own mind, once they have seen it.' The Toronto International Film Festival has sometimes prompted headlines over its selections. Last year, it canceled screenings of 'Russians at War,' a documentary about Russian soldiers in the war with Ukraine. Protesters in Toronto called the film Russian propaganda. After the festival paused screenings due to 'significant threats,' 'Russians at War' was quietly screened toward the end of the festival. The 50th Toronto International Film Festival runs Sept. 4–14.
