Prada heels or Rajasthani juttis?: Netizens rage over luxury brand's latest launch
It seems the world's fascination with Indian history and culture is becoming more and more obvious to luxury brands, which are not only catering to the Indian audiences but also enriching Western fashion with touches of Indian ones.
After the very viral and much-debated row over Kolhapuri-inspired sandals featured in Prada's Men's Spring/Summer 2026 show, luxury fashion brand Prada is under the netizens' lens once again. The brand recently released new Antiqued Leather Pumps that Indian netizens believe are strikingly similar to the traditional Rajasthani juttis.
The design described as 'original and unconventional' seems similar to the traditional Indian footwear despite smart tweaks in the form of heels, pointed toes, visible stitching for the 'pre-worn' feel and leather.
Similar to the previous incident, Prada has alluded to no connection or credit to the Indian craft, which it seems to have copied off.

People on the internet were quick to compare the Italian luxe label's design to that of the classic Rajasthani juttis. With Prada making no such clarifications, they have been blaming the brand for another row of copying.
"Prada has done it again. After copying Kolhapuris, they have now taken Rajasthani leather juttis as is and added heels to them," wrote a person on X.

"Prada releases 'antiqued leather pumps' similar to Punjabi juttis after row over Kolhapuris," added another, comparing the design to Punjabi juttis.
"Not just Dior. Prada ripped both Kolhapuri Chappals and Punjabi Juttis," and "Funny how it's 'unconventional' when it's Prada, but 'ethnic' when it's us. The jutti walked so this heel could strut. Give credit, not just couture", added others.
The heels resemble the Indian footwear with their leather use, visible stitching and even colour shades, thus sparking the online criticism. This instance, combined with the previous Kolhapuri sandals, has brought into the limelight the lack of accountability by luxury brands, where they avoid giving appropriate credit where it is due.

Kerala unveils draft film policy; focus on financial framework, gender equality, global presence According to the draft, film production and exhibition will be designated as an industry, enabling access to various incentives and easing financing processes. "The recognition of film production as an industry will bring multiple advantages, enhancing transparency and promoting social responsibility within the sector," the policy stated. The government aims to ensure opportunities for all sections of society to contribute to Malayalam cinema's growth, positioning it as a key global stakeholder and preserving its cultural heritage for future generations. The vision statement outlines the goal of building a strong visual communication ecosystem, ensuring equality across related sectors, and transforming Kerala into a regional production hub by adopting advanced technology and increasing the industry's contribution to the state's GDP. The draft notes that India is the world's largest film producer, with over 2,000 releases annually. Hindi cinema leads with about 400 films a year, followed closely by Malayalam with approximately 300. In 2015, India was the fourth-largest film market globally, with theatrical revenue of USD 2.1 billion. Between 2016 and 2021, the Indian film industry grew at an annual rate of 7.7 per cent. The film industry is optimistic about cinema exhibition prospects this year, with experts estimating theatrical revenue for 2023 in India at around ₹12,000 crore. Kerala alone recorded box office collections exceeding ₹2,000 crore in 2023, the draft said. The policy affirms the government's commitment to continued dialogue with various film industry associations, supporting demands for better wages, job security, medical benefits, and insurance. A general financing incentive scheme for Malayalam cinema will be introduced, with specific provisions for women and marginalised communities. The draft also encourages the production of other Indian languages and foreign films in Kerala. A dedicated film development fund will support promotional and humanitarian initiatives outlined in the policy. A venture capital fund for film production, with private participation and crowdfunding options for socially relevant films, will be created and managed by the Kerala State Film Development Corporation . To promote an equitable work environment, the state will issue detailed guidelines and best practices for the film industry. A single-window film facilitation centre will be established to streamline all shooting-related permits in the state. A Film Development Council, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and co-chaired by Culture Minister Saji Cherian, with an industry representative as vice-chairman, will be established as the apex body to oversee the development of the film industry. The council will monitor industry activities and recommend policy interventions to the state cabinet as required. The draft policy was distributed among delegates and will be discussed in detail during the two-day conclave, which concludes on Sunday, official sources said. FWICE demands Kartik Aaryan to withdraw from an event organised by a Pakistani entity in Houston: 'We expect clarification and immediate distancing'
Kartik Aaryan has come under fire ever since an announcement was made that he is set to appear at an event in the US organised by a Pakistani-owned entity. Ever since the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India has banned Pakistani artists and also Indian artists collaborating with any Pakistani-supported event or work. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has now sent a letter to the 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama' actor and warned him to not participate in this event. The event, titled Azadi Utsav – The Indian Independence Day, is scheduled to take place in Houston, Texas, on August 15, 2025, with Kartik listed as the lead guest. FWICE has now raised concerns about the actor's participation, pointing out that the host venue — Aga's Restaurant and Catering, is owned by Pakistani national Mr Shaukat Maredia. In an official letter addressed to Kartik, FWICE wrote, "It is with a sense of deep concern and responsibility that the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) brings to your notice a matter involving your scheduled participation in an event titled Azadi Utsav – The Indian Independence Day to be held in Houston, USA, on 15th August 2025. As per the attached poster, you are being featured as the lead guest for this celebration. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Seniors Are Snapping Up This TV Box, We Explain! The federation also claimed that the same restaurant is hosting a Pakistan Independence Day celebration a day earlier, on August 14. 'We believe you may not have been fully aware of the organisers' background or affiliations. If so, we strongly urge you to immediately withdraw your participation from this event. However, if you were aware, it becomes a matter of even greater concern — and we expect a clarification and immediate distancing from such associations,' the letter added. FWICE further elaborated on the need for artists to remain cautious and aware of who they associate with on international platforms. 'We hope you will take this matter with the seriousness it demands and act in a manner befitting your responsibility as an Indian artist,' the letter to Kartik concluded. Apart from the actor, the federation has also written to singer Javed Ali , urging him to step back from another event happening on August 31, which is said to feature Pakistani performers. So far, Kartik Aaryan has not issued a public response to the letter.
