Bengals vs. Steelers could be heading for Thanksgiving showdown

Yahoo03-04-2025
The Cincinnati Bengals project to feature plenty in the national spotlight of primetime games in 2025 when the NFL gets around to finally releasing the schedule.
And it sounds like a showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers could happen on a major holiday.

Speaking with Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, NFL vice president of broadcasting planning and scheduling Mike North suggested a Bengals-Steelers matchup is one possibility for Thanksgiving night:
"Dallas and Detroit are traditional venues for Thanksgiving Day, but that Thanksgiving night game moves around, and you talk about that Cincy-Pittsburgh game, that could be a possible home. Could the Bengals and the Steelers meet each other on Thanksgiving night? That's an option as well."
The Bengals have been sniffing around becoming a holiday staple during the Joe Burrow era. They even asked the NFL about being featured on the new Black Friday game every year.
So far, no dice, but that could change this year with the team hosting AFC North opponents and featuring other notables on the schedule such as the Buffalo Bills.

Beyond the above, North also mentioned the likelihood of the Bengals going international for a 9:30 a.m. ET kickoff on NFL Network. Whether that's in Dublin against the Steelers or something else, though, apparently remains undecided. Rumors circulated even by Burrow himself have hinted at a showdown with the Miami Dolphins in Madrid this year.
Overall? Expect to see the Bengals roughly five or so times outside of non-1 p.m. ET kickoffs next year before any flex scheduling changeups.

3 Arizona Cardinals players who improved their stock in preseason loss to the Broncos

The Arizona Cardinals lost their second preseason game Saturday night, a 27-7 defeat to the Denver Broncos in which they allowed 562 yards and only gained 135. They didn't play any of their starters expect for rookie cornerback Will Johnson and new linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither. There weren't a lot of positives, but a few players helped their stock as we approach final cuts and the 53-man roster. Which players stood out? QB Jacoby Brissett Brissett doesn't have any worry about making the roster, as he has the backiup quarterback job locked up. However, he led the Cardinals to another touchdown, giving him three touchdown passes in five preseason possessions. They have come against opponent backups, but the ease with which he operates the offense and moved the ball down the field, there is confidence that the offense will be okay should Kyler Murray ever get hurt. WR Simi Fehoko Fehoko had his first preseason action, missing last week's game with a quad injury. He had two receptions for 21 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown reception. He also made a special teams tackle. He is a player most fans won't know, but the TV broadcast emphasized he is good on special teams. He showed enough to probably secure a spot on the roster, especially considering he ha almost all his salary guaranteed in 2025. K Chad Ryland He only had the one extra point and did not have a field-goal attempt, But before the game, he drilled a 72-yard field goal. There is no issue with his leg. That was about it. It was mostly players hurting themselves. Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast. Spike Lee says ESPN won't air his Colin Kaepernick series

ESPN has confirmed it will not move forward with a highly anticipated docuseries about Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who ignited a national movement in 2016 by kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice and police brutality. The eight-part series, directed by Oscar-winner Spike Lee, was announced in 2022 and promoted as a first-person account of Kaepernick's journey from NFL star to civil rights figure. But on Saturday, Aug. 16, both ESPN and Lee said the project had been canceled due to 'creative differences.' 'ESPN, Colin Kaepernick and Spike Lee have collectively decided to no longer proceed with this project as a result of certain creative differences,' the network said in a statement. 'Despite not reaching finality, we appreciate all the hard work and collaboration that went into this film.' Lee revealed the news the night before, on Friday, Aug. 15, while attending a fundraiser in Beverly Hills. 'It's not coming out. That's all I can say,' he told Reuters, citing a nondisclosure agreement that barred him from elaborating. The project had already encountered setbacks. In 2023, Puck News reported that Lee and Kaepernick had disagreed over the film's direction, delaying production. ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro was reportedly open to allowing the filmmakers to shop the series elsewhere. Kaepernick, now 37, has not played in the NFL since the 2016 season. The 49ers released him in 2017, citing football-related reasons, though many believe his political activism significantly influenced the league's decision to keep him unsigned. 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now!' Trump told a crowd at a rally. 'Out! He's fired!' Kaepernick later filed a collusion grievance against the NFL, which was settled in 2019.
