SSEF's 'Athar' promotes behavioural values
These visits were part of the "Athar" (Impact) programme's workshop series, with the participation of 15 children between the ages of 8 and 12. The visits aimed to empower children who have lost their fathers psychologically, socially, and environmentally.
Interactive education
The visits aimed to reinforce a set of moral and behavioural values by linking them to the surrounding environment and instilling diverse values such as compassion, acceptance of others, and self-defense in an interactive educational manner.
They also aimed to develop children's observation and deduction skills in a practical and field-based manner, drawing inspiration from the animal world and the surrounding environment.
Group work and coexistence values
The visits also aimed to develop knowledge and the great lessons they hold in adaptation, diversity, and coexistence. They also aimed to instill a spirit of teamwork and cooperation among children through group work.
The programme included educational tours aimed at creating an atmosphere of fun and educational enjoyment, which contributes to raising children's motivation to learn by learning about animals and their different environments. Additionally, educational activities such as drawing living creatures and writing phrases expressing acquired values contributed to consolidating behavioural concepts in a practical and enjoyable manner.
The visit to the Sharjah Public Library also included a workshop titled "A Journey of Values Between the Shelves," which focused on developing children's value awareness. This stop reinforced four key values: love of knowledge, respect, discipline, and positive curiosity, amidst an interactive educational atmosphere aimed at instilling educational values in a fun and creative way.
This opened the door to dialogue with children and highlighted their connection to their place.
Building character and human values
In this context, Nawal Al Hamdi, Director of the Social Welfare Department, stated that as part of the Foundation's vision to support children psychologically, socially, and environmentally through integrated development programmes that focus on building character and enhancing their human values, we were keen to implement a new series of the 'Athar' programme in an innovative way that allows children to experience an inspiring educational experience in diverse environments.
The visits were rich educational experiences that combined learning and fun, and contributed to strengthening children's behavioural and moral values in a practical way, instilling them in their minds through real-life situations and live observation.
Al Hamdi confirmed that SSEF believes that investing in building children's values is the cornerstone of creating a conscious generation capable of making a positive contribution to their community. Through the programme, the foundation seeks to promote positive behavioural values through interactive experiences that instill diverse concepts in every encounter."
Social empowerment and environmental awareness
As part of the Foundation's strategic direction towards achieving sustainability, Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation (SSEF) integrates the two pillars of social empowerment and environmental awareness. Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences held an introductory workshop on Hamdan–EFQM Global Educational Award at its headquarters in Dubai. The event drew wide participation from school representatives across the United Arab Emirates and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Commenting on the occasion, His Excellency Dr. Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Foundation, stated: 'This award reflects the Foundation's deep commitment to recognizing excellence in educational practices and honoring both institutional and individual efforts that contribute to the advancement of educational quality. We believe that schools serve as the foundational pillar for building a sustainable knowledge-based society. Through this award, we aim to accelerate qualitative transformation in education systems, in line with the UAE's vision for institutional excellence and quality. The workshop was led by Dr. Rashid Al Reyami, a certified trainer and evaluator, who provided a comprehensive overview of the award's objectives, structure, eligibility criteria, and application process. Hamdan–EFQM Global Educational Award is one of the Foundation's flagship strategic initiatives, developed in collaboration with the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM). It is the first award of its kind globally to assess educational institution performance based on a robust evaluation model aligned with international standards. The award is anchored in Hamdan Educational Model, a globally recognized framework co-developed by international education experts and EFQM. The model emphasizes improved pedagogical and administrative performance, enhanced learning outcomes, and the dissemination of best practices among participating schools. Targeting outstanding schools in the UAE and the broader GCC region, the award process includes a comprehensive review of applications submitted via EFQM's digital platform AssessBase, followed by orientation sessions and site visits conducted by specialized assessment teams. The process culminates in the issuance of detailed feedback reports with holistic analysis and practical recommendations for continuous improvement. SSEF empowers orphans through academic support
Seventy students have now begun receiving academic tutoring, aimed specifically at those struggling with low academic achievement. The programme targets students under the Foundation's care, who have lost parental support, offering them guidance from a team of qualified teachers to help boost their self-confidence, raise their academic levels, and better prepare for final exams. Comprehensive educational support Nawal Al Hamadi, Director of the Welfare Department at SSEF, commented: 'Our interest in supporting the academic progress of our students stems from the 'Learning through the Pen' initiative, which aims to provide comprehensive assistance—removing educational obstacles and equipping students with the tools they need to succeed. The project currently supports nearly 1,900 students through a variety of educational services.' She noted that the Foundation believes academic empowerment is essential for building a promising future. 'This tutoring programme is one of several initiatives implemented in partnership with Sharjah's education council, the Teachers Association, and Al Kamal Private School. The feedback we've received confirms a significant improvement in both student morale and academic performance, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the teaching staff.' Al Hamadi concluded, 'We view education as the first step toward true empowerment. The 'Learning through the Pen' project is part of a broader strategy focused on academic development. Our efforts go beyond school years to support higher education, recognising its critical role in shaping students' futures and life trajectories. Strengthening educational partnerships Abdullah Al Marzouqi, Educational Advisor at the Sharjah Private Education Authority, praised the initiative, stating: 'The 'We Rise Together' programme—launched by the Teachers Association in partnership with SSEF and the Sharjah Volunteering Centre, and in collaboration with Al Kamal American Private School in Al Azra—is an excellent example of community partnership in education. The Sharjah Private Education Authority strongly supports initiatives that aim to improve student outcomes and sees this as a model of integration between educational and community institutions.' He added: 'We are proud of our collaboration with SSEF and the Teachers Association. It's essential to unify efforts to create an inclusive, motivating learning environment that enhances student capabilities and positively impacts academic performance.' An educational model of collaboration Salah Al Hosani, Chairman of the Teachers Association in the UAE, also emphasised the importance of partnership with community institutions. He noted that the 'We Rise Together' initiative was specifically launched to support SSEF students ahead of their final third-term exams. 'This collaboration is a practical and distinguished model of community partnership, aiming to boost student performance at a critical time of the school year,' Al Hosani said. 'The Teachers Association is committed to fostering a motivating educational environment, mobilising qualified educators, and designing specialised learning programmes that enhance student skills and close academic gaps.' Volunteer engagement in student support Volunteers also played a vital role in facilitating the programme. Ibrahim Al Naqbi, General Coordinator at the Sharjah Volunteering Centre, stated: 'Our continuous support for local initiatives reflects our commitment to community engagement. Volunteers had a major role in organising and supporting the 'We Rise Together' initiative—assisting students and teachers, monitoring attendance, and ensuring the learning environment was both safe and effective. The presence of a first-aid team among the volunteers helped ensure full preparedness and contributed to a secure and positive educational atmosphere.' Ongoing support through the academic year The remedial programme is delivered in the weeks leading up to final exams and includes regular performance assessments at the end of each term. Academic progress is closely monitored throughout the school year in coordination with parents and teachers to ensure sustained improvement. SSEF continues to offer a wide range of educational services under its 'Learning through the Pen' project. In addition to tutoring support, the initiative helps cover school tuition fees, supports university education, and provides students with digital learning tools and study materials. It also includes year-round academic follow-ups, skill-development courses, support for gifted students, and assistance for those with learning difficulties—underscoring the Foundation's vision to enable its students to thrive academically.
