Phil Steele puts Auburn in elite company with preseason D-Line ranking
Auburn football is poised to have a great offense this season. However, its defense is shaping up to make noise as well during the 2025 season.
One unit in particular is catching the eye of a premier name in college football, Phil Steele. Steele, who has published a preseason magazine for over 30 years, included Auburn among his top 25 defensive line units ahead of the 2025 season, sliding the Tigers in at No. 24 ahead of No. 25 Florida State.
This year's unit will feature a trio of players who gained valuable playing experience last season. Keldric Faulk and Bobby Jamison-Travis return to anchor the unit while Malik Blocton slides in as a sophomore after playing 305 snaps last season and making two starts. The unit will be deep with reserves as transfers James Ash, Dallas Walker, and Jay Hardy join the depth chart.
Faulk and Jamison-Travis are the veterans of the group and will be tasked with leading the young players as they develop into starters themselves later in their careers. Faulk has already noticed quick development in the young linemen, especially in one true freshman.
"They are active at all times. When Darrion (Smith) first came in, he was so timid, and he was so impatient to play blocks or even the pass rush. He was laid off, getting active in pass rush," Faulk said. "But now, those guys got so comfortable playing our defense that they make decisions very easy for themselves, and they slow the game down. So they are playing faster and making better decisions."
Check out what all Faulk, as well as head coach Hugh Freeze and quarterback Jackson Arnold, had to say during Saturday's press conference.

Chuma Okeke signs contract with Real Madrid ahead of next season
Former Auburn basketball star Chuma Okeke will be taking his talents to Spain next season. The former first-round NBA draft pick signed a contract to play with Real Madrid next season, ending his five-year run in the NBA. A member of Auburn's first Final Four team in 2019, Okeke was a breakout star in the NCAA Tournament before suffering a brutal knee injury in the Sweet 16 against North Carolina. The sophomore collected double-digit points in each of the three contests he appeared in, culminating in a 20-point, 11-rebound effort to lead Auburn over the top-seeded Tarheels. The injury caused uncertainty around the star's draft prospects, but the Orlando Magic still selected him in the first round, at pick No. 16. Okeke spent four seasons with Orlando to begin his career before playing with the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers last season. While a return to the association is still on the table for the 26-year-old forward, he could choose to stay oversees after seeing the success of former teammates Jared Harper and Austin Wiley, as well as former Tiger Wendell Green, in the EuroBasket curcuit. When Okeke touches down in Spain, he'll join a Real Madrid squad that has reached the EuroLeague Final Four in six of the last seven seasons. The roster features many former NBA players, including Mario Hezonja, Théo Maledon, Bruno Fernando, and Facundo Campazzo. Dylan Cardwell signs contract with Kings G League Affiliate
One of the most influential members in Auburn basketball history will start his first proffesional season in the NBA G League. Center Dylan Cardwell, who finished his Tigers career with a program record 166 games played, signed a contract with the Sacramento Kings G League Affiliate, the Stockton Kings, earlier this week. Cardwell's two-way contract comes off the heels of an impressive NBA Summer League stretch which saw the center collect 2.3 points, 0.7 blocks and 3.3 rebounds per game over a six-game span. The five-year contributor at Auburn flashed the effort and motor that made him a fan favorite on the Plains throughout his Summer League stint, leading to plenty of highlight level dunks and blocks throughout his campaign. While Cardwell wasn't quite impressive enough to earn a contract with the big league squad, the un-drafted rookie now has the chance to develop in a Kings system that lacks top-end front court talent. Auburn's all-time winningest player is unlikely to turn himself into a double-digit scorer in the NBA, but relentless defense and a keen knack for finding rebounds could lead to success in the G League, and possibly the NBA. Dylan Cardwell finished his Auburn career with 700 career points, 641 rebounds, and 211 blocks in 166 games played. He ranks among the top 5 in games played (first), blocks (fourth), and offensive rebounds (second). Analyst says Notre Dame fans should be \
Fighting Irish fans might like Kenny Minchey's mobility The debate about the starting quarterback for the 2025 Notre Dame Fighting Irish rages on. CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey? Well, analyst/pundit J.D. Pickell is making the case for the latter. Pickell says Irish fans should be "stoked" if Minchey wins the job. His reasoning? If Minchey wins, that means Minchey is a good enough passer to take advantage of a potentially very good receiving corps while also bringing mobility to the table in the way that last year's starter Riley Leonard did. Pickell points out that Leonard's mobility did a lot of damage to opposing defenses last year -- and if this year's receiving corps is that much better, then it stands to reason that the Irish will have more ways to attack a defense and keep an opponent off balance. We'll see soon enough who wins -- and, if Minchey is the guy, we'll soon see if Pickell is right.
