Speaking to ANI, Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, said, "Jaisalmer recorded the highest temperature in the last 24 hours, reaching 48 degrees Celsius. Severe heatwave conditions continue to persist in several districts of Rajasthan, including Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Ganganagar, and Phalodi, with maximum temperatures expected between 46 to 48 degrees Celsius."

"The Meteorological Centre has issued a red alert for the border areas of western Rajasthan for the next three days. In the Ajmer division of eastern Rajasthan, districts like Bhilwara, Tonk, and Kota are also likely to experience temperatures ranging from 44 to 46 degrees Celsius over the coming two to three days. Overall, the heatwave conditions will continue in western Rajasthan's border areas for the next five days," he added.
Earlier on Wednesday, the official said heatwave conditions are currently prevailing in northwestern Rajasthan, especially in Sri Ganganagar, and are likely to continue in Bikaner, Jodhpur, Phalodi, Jaisalmer, and the Shekhawati region over the next two to three days.

Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) was in the satisfactory category with a reading of 81 at 7 pm, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data. Traffic jams, roadblocks disrupt travel on Chd-Manali highway
1 2 Kullu: Huge traffic jams were witnessed on the Chandigarh-Manali highway on Thursday, even as over 300 roads remained blocked across Himachal Pradesh. The weather department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in parts of the state in the coming days. The highway, which was opened for traffic on Wednesday, saw jams in Pandoh and nearby areas after the traffic was diverted through a single lane at landslide-affected areas and in Dyod, where a portion of the highway was caving in. Hundreds of vehicles remained stuck in traffic jams throughout the day, and it took as many as six to seven hours for commuters to reach Mandi from Kullu. The alternate Kamand-Kataula route also remained blocked for the third day on Thursday, worsening the traffic situation on the highway. Mandi police issued an advisory asking people to travel on the Kullu-Mandi highway only if very important due to traffic congestion and the slow pace of traffic movement. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), a total of 346 roads remained blocked in the state on Thursday, with the highest number being 164 in Mandi district, 123 in Kullu, 29 in Kangra, and 10 in Una district. Rain continues to lash Kolkata; IMD issues orange, yellow alerts for multiple districts in Bengal
The skies have opened up over Bengal once again, and the rain is here to stay. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of enhanced rainfall activity across both North and South Bengal in the coming days. Kolkata is set to experience moderate rainfall today, August 21, with cloudy skies cast over the city. Temperatures, as reported by IMD, will range between 25 and 29 degrees Celsius. Despite the rainy spells, the city receives no respite from the humidity as the maximum relative humidity is set at 97 percent. The situation intensified in the southern districts of South 24 Parganas and Purba Bardhaman as the IMD issued orange alerts for today due to the expectancy of heavy downpours (7-20 cm). Tomorrow, the orange alerts shift zones to Bankura, Purulia, and Paschim Medinipur. The rest of the districts, including Howrah, Hooghly, Jhargram, Murshidabad, and Nadia, stay on yellow alert for the upcoming week with forecasts of heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) and thunderstorms with gusty winds up to 40 kmph. Authorities warn of possible waterlogging, traffic congestion, and lightning strikes. Adding to the risk, squally weather over the Bay of Bengal has prompted IMD to issue a warning for fishermen. They have stated that 'due to the gusting winds reaching 55 kmph over North Bay of Bengal and along and off West Bengal coast from August 21 to August 23, fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea over North Bay of Bengal and along and off the West Bengal coast.' North Bengal remains drenched — the IMD warns that there is more to come as the district of Alipurduar is placed on an orange alert for today, owing to the prediction of heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm), thunderstorm activity, gusty winds, and lightning strikes. The remaining districts, including Darjeeling, Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, and Malda, have been put on yellow alerts throughout the week. Residents can expect heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) in pockets. In the past day, Alipurduar's Buxaduar recorded 19 cm of rain, while multiple tea estates in Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling have logged 7-13 cm. Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Kolkata stated that 'an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal at 5.8 km above mean sea level. The monsoon trough now passes through Jaisalmer, Kota, Datia, Sidhi, Ranchi, Bankura, Digha and thence south eastwards to east central Bay of Bengal and extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. Under the influence of the above meteorological condition, light to moderate rainfall at most places over West Bengal, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over some districts, (is) very likely to occur in the next two days.'
