Investigation launched after report of sexual assault on teen girl in Co. Down
Police are investigating a report of a sexual assault on a teenage girl in Co Down.
Officers are investigating the alleged incident in the Samson's Lane area, off the Ardglass Road, in Downpatrick shortly after 8.30am on Tuesday.
Local district commander Superintendent Norman Haslett said he wanted to reassure the community that there will be a 'noticeable increase in police patrols in the area in the coming days and weeks'.

He also issued an appeal for anyone with information to come forward and speak to police.
'I want to reassure the community that a dedicated, skilled and specialist trained team of detectives are working at pace to support the victim of this crime and to progress the investigation,' he said.

Man (30) arrested on suspicion of murder following death of man in Co Down
A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in Co Down following the death of a man in Downpatrick. The PSNI said it had begun a murder investigation and that while enquiries are an at an early stage 'we suspect this may be connected to a serious assault in the St Patrick's Avenue area of Downpatrick on Sunday'. 'Police attended an address in the Marian Park area following a report of a deceased man at approximately 12pm on Sunday afternoon, ,' Newry, Mourne and Down, District Commander Supt Norman Haslett said. 'A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and remains in police custody assisting with enquiries.' READ MORE Earlier on Sunday a man walked into a Downpatrick church on St Patrick's Avenue and hit a priest, Fr John Murray, on his head with a bottle before leaving. The priest is in a serious condition in hospital following what the PSNI described as a 'brutal attack'. Sinn Féin MP Chris Hazzard has described the events in Downpatrick today as 'deeply shocking'. 'The death of a man, along with the vicious attack on Fr Murray in St Patrick's Church, has deeply saddened and horrified the local community,' the South Down MP said. 'My thoughts are with all those affected by these tragic events including family and friends of the victims, parishioners who were on their way to Mass this morning, and the emergency services who attended the scenes. 'I would encourage anyone with information to contact police to assist them with their investigations.' Gardai help take down ‘serious' cybercriminal organisation behind $370m ransom payments

Key operational infrastructure, including the dark web leaks page and the victim negotiation site, as well as domains attributed to the international criminal network have been successfully removed. Other law enforcement agencies including the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), US Secret Service, the FBI, as well as Dutch, German, UK and Ukrainian police, and Europol took part in the operation. According to a Garda press release, the Blacksuit ransomware group are an organised crime gang responsible for the commission of ransomware and other 'serious cyber criminality internationally'. This is not generally accessible by the wider public, but is where the victims of a ransomware go to engage and communicate with the offenders. 'Disrupting ransomware infrastructure is not only about taking down servers, it's about dismantling the entire ecosystem that enables cybercriminals to operate with impunity,' said HSI Cyber Crimes Center Deputy Assistant Director Michael Prado. Man (23) accused of stabbing garda on Dublin street agrees to stay in custody
Abdullah Khan was arrested at the scene following an incident on Dublin's Capel Street. A 23-year-old man charged over the stabbing of a Garda on a Dublin street last week has agreed to stay in prison for another four weeks pending directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Abdullah Khan replied "sound" in Cloverhill District Court today when told that his next hearing was set for September 3 and that he was going to have a further consultation with his legal team. Mr Khan, with an address in north Dublin that cannot be reported by court order, was arrested at the scene following an incident at around 6pm on Capel Street in the city's north side on July 29. He appeared before Judge Patricia Cronin today for his second court appearance, having been held in custody with no bail application on July 31. Appearing via video link, seated and wearing a grey sweatshirt, he confirmed to his solicitor Katie Dowling that he consented to being further remanded in custody pending the DPP's decision on the case. When it resumed, he spoke up to give his surname and confirmed to his solicitor, Katie Dowling, "I can hear you". It was explained to him that the matter was listed for mention, and he answered, "Yeah". Judge Cronin noted the DPP's directions were not yet available. Detective Sergeant Liam McLaughlin, of the Bridewell Station, informed the court that he was applying for a four-week remand if there was consent. During later exchanges with Ms Dowling, Mr Khan was informed that the directions were not available and he was entitled to apply for bail at any stage. The defence solicitor also explained that the State was asking for another four weeks for those directions, and he could consent to a two-week adjournment, but it was unlikely that they would be available. Or, she added that he could agree to a four-week adjournment. "On consent to the four weeks," he replied. Judge Cronin remanded him in continuing custody, noting that a video link appearance was acceptable on the next date. At the end of the hearing, his solicitor advised him that he had a video link consultation arranged for that night, adding, "we will be able to discuss the matter in more detail at that stage", to which Mr Khan replied, "Sound". Ms Dowling also advised him that if he wished to apply for bail, he could do so at any time once gardaí have been notified in advance. The injured garda, a young probationary member of the force who was on high-visibility patrol with a colleague, received hospital treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The accused man is charged with assault causing harm to the officer and the production of a Tactix knife capable of causing serious injury. He has yet to indicate a plea to the charges, which are under section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act and section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act. At the first court appearance on Thursday, the defence secured reporting restrictions on the publication of Mr Khan's address, due to "concerns around safety", which was confirmed by Detective Sergeant McLaughlin. Medical attention in custody was also ordered, and legal aid was granted.
