Grammy Museum in L.A. Presents ‘& Juliet: The Music of Max Martin and Friends'
Timed to coincide with the touring production's summer run at Center Theatre Group's Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles (Aug. 13 – Sept. 7), the exhibit will open at the Grammy Museum on July 23 and remain on display through Oct. 27.

For more than 30 years, Martin and his collaborators have crafted dozens of hits for superstars including Ariana Grande, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry. Martin joined forces with a team of Broadway producers to re-envision his greatest hits for the stage. The result was & Juliet, a jukebox musical that flips the script on Romeo & Juliet and brings Martin's music to life as a fresh, theatrical performance. The show features such signature Martin hits as 'Since U Been Gone,' 'Roar,' 'I Want It That Way' and 'Confident.'
& Juliet has played on four continents since its premiere on London's West End in 2019. The Original Broadway Cast Recording was released in October 2022 on Atlantic Records. The show opened on Broadway on Nov. 17, 2022 and is still running at the Stephen Sondheim Theater. It received nine Tony nominations in 2023 but went 0-9 on the big night.
'I'm so thrilled that the Grammy Museum is highlighting & Juliet,' Martin said in a statement. 'Working on & Juliet has truly been a highlight of my career, and I'm so glad LA residents will have a chance to check out the show that has brought so much joy to so many people, and at the same time visit the Grammy Museum to learn more about the songs and artifacts that inspired the score.'
'I hope our Grammy Museum visitors will walk away with a new appreciation for Martin's pop music legacy and a better understanding of all the hard work that goes into creating a Broadway production,' added Kelsey Goelz, curator at the Grammy Museum.

Martin, 54, has won five Grammy Awards, including producer of the year, non-classical in 2015. He has received 25 Grammy nominations, including 19 in the three highest-profile categories: album, record and song of the year.

Netflix teases new psychological thriller show that looks seriously intense — and I'm adding it to my watchlist already
I often find myself frustrated at how spoiler-filled trailers are these days. Fortunately, the new teaser for Netflix's upcoming thriller series 'Wayward' is a great example of a trailer that does just enough to pique your interest, but without giving away the show's biggest secrets. 'Wayward' is set to premiere on Netflix on September 25, and this first trailer is a great mood-setter. It introduces viewers to the town of Tall Pines, a place that looks quaint and idyllic on the surface but is hiding a very sinister underbelly. Consider me very intrigued to learn more. The minute-long trailer suggests a show that runs the gamut from psychological thriller to surrealist nightmare, and it's all set to a haunting rendition of 'In the Pines' sung by series star Toni Collette. In fact, Colette's involvement is another reason I'm particularly interested in this series, because she's great in just about everything. And I get the feeling we're in for another show-stealing performance from Colette, the unnerving final shot of the trailer is all the evidence I need of that. 'Wayward' comes from Canadian comedian Mae Martin, who serves as creator, co-showrunner, executive producer, and also plays the lead role. But 'Wayward' is unlike anything Martin has done before, so even longtime fans might be surprised to see this new side of them. Martin's elevator pitch for the series is an eye-catching one: 'It's like if you took the kids from 'Booksmart' and put them in 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,'' they explained to Netflix Tudum. The streaming service also notes that while the show mixes tones and aims to be 'scary,' Martin's signature humor and heartfelt outlook have been retained, creating an interesting blend of genres. The show is partially inspired by Martin's childhood, as well as the experience of a friend who was sent to a troubled teen institute at the age of 16. So, "Wayward" appears to be a thriller with something real to say. The eight-part limited series is set in the seemingly perfect town of Tall Pines, and centers on police officer Alex (Martin) and his pregnant wife (Sarah Gadon) who have recently moved to the area to start their family.. But when unusual incidents occur, Alex is drawn to investigate, and it becomes clear that the local school for 'troubled teens,' and its mysterious leader, Evelyn (Colette), are at the heart of the darkness that is spreading across the town. I can't wait to begin unraveling this mystery. The show also stars Sydney Topliffe, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Brandon Jay McLaren, Tattiawna Jones, Isolde Ardies, Joshua Close and Patrick J. Adams. Ryan Scott is co-showrunner, while Euros Lyn, Renuka Jeyapalan and John Fawcett will direct. 'Wayward' looks to have all the ingredients for a surefire Netflix hit, and the recently-released teaser trailer has taken it from a show barely on my radar to one I'm very eager to add to my watchlist as soon as possible. Fortunately, I won't have to wait too long to take a trip to Tall Pines myself because, as noted, the show will be streaming on Netflix from September 25. This week we start a new month, and a fresh lineup of local events with it, including live music. Notable concerts include the former lead guitarist of a hard rock group that was nominated for the inaugural Best Metal Performance Grammy, making his return to Sarasota. There will also be multiple acclaimed blues acts in town, including a few that've been nominated for Blues Music Awards. And while we tend to highlight original music over tribute acts in this column, we're showcasing two shows that pay tribute to recently departed musicians, one of whom was a former Sarasota resident. While you sadly won't be able to see Osbourne live again, you can still see the countless musicians carrying on his legacy, including this Black Sabbath tribute group from Tampa (a hub for death metal, a subgenre that arguably wouldn't exist without Black Sabbath and Osbourne.) Snowblind pays tribute in particular to Black Sabbath's years with Osbourne as frontman, a catalog that includes classic songs such as "Paranoid," "War Pigs," "Iron Man," "Sweet Leaf" and "Changes." 7:30 p.m. Saturday; Troll Music, 628 E. Now, on what would've been the week of his 78th birthday, Bradenton's 88 Live will host a musical tribute to Derringer that is open to Bradenton and Sarasota residents — which Derringer himself formerly was. A wide range of musicians will honor Derringer's legacy, which includes hits such as 'Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo' and 'Hang On Sloopy,' the theme song for Hulk Hogan — another Florida resident who recently passed away — and producing numerous albums by the likes of Edgar Winter, Johnny Winter, and Weird Al Yankovic, including parody classics like 'Eat It.' During Lynch's time with Dokken, the group released multiple platinum-selling albums on Elektra Records (which Lynch Mob were also signed to for their first two full-lengths) and were nominated for the inaugural Best Metal Performance Grammy for 1988's "Beast from the East."
