Cavs sign franchise legend's son in unexpected free agent deal

As far as family reunions go, this is a fun one.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have reunited with Larry Nance Jr. on a one-year free agent contract, per ESPN.
Nance Jr. has played for the Cavs before, but he's just as well known in Cleveland because his father Larry Sr. was a long-time Cleveland star.

Nance Jr. is 32 years old now, and he averaged 8.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for Atlanta in 2024-25. He missed the tail end of the season with a fracture in his right knee.
The big fella will get to serve as a backup for Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen on the Cleveland interior.

Nance Jr. has played for the Lakers, Pelicans, Trail Blazers, Hawks and Cavs.
He attended Revere High School in Richfield, Ohio. His Cavs seasons spanned from 2017-2021. In those four Cleveland years, Nance Jr. averaged 9.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

Larry Sr. played seven years for the Cavaliers in the late-80s and early-90s. He was a stud, putting up 16.8 points and 18.2 rebounds per game in that span.
The Cavs know they won't quite get father's production in this second go-round with Nance Jr., but he's an experienced NBA big man who should be the ideal lob threat as a backup to Cleveland's established frontcourt.

Social media reacts to Nets signing Ricky Council IV to one-year deal

The Brooklyn Nets have had one of the more interesting offseasons with the way that they approached the 2025 NBA Draft and free-agency as a whole. Brooklyn not only used five first-round picks in the Draft, but they also traded forward Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for forward Michael Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round pick. On Friday, the Nets continued making tweaks to the roster by signing former Philadelphia 76ers forward Ricky Council IV to a one-year contract, per ESPN's Shams Charania. Council, 23, is coming off a 2024-25 season with the 76ers in which he averaged 7.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 38.2% from the field and 25.8% from three-point land. With Council being added to the roster, most likely to compete for a spot in training camp, the Nets will be at 19 players on the team, including forward Ziaire Williams and center Day'Ron Sharpe, whose re-signings are still pending, per Spotrac. As of this writing, Brooklyn has not re-signed guard Cam Thomas, meaning that the roster could be at 20 players soon enough.
