Edinburgh Castle to be illuminated with Harry Potter and Nintendo projections
Edinburgh Castle is set be illuminated in a projection show by Universal Orlando. The event will take place to celebrate the launch of an upcoming theme park. In honour of the grand opening of Universal Epic Universe on May 22, Universal Orlando Resort will light up Edinburgh Castle with a "world-class projection display". The illumination will showcase the five immersive 'worlds' of the new Florida theme park. At 9pm on May 2, in a " historic first", Edinburgh Castle will turn into a canvas for a Universal Epic Universe-themed projection mapping and lighting experience. Innovative techniques will complement the aesthetics of the five worlds that can be found within the theme park. The five worlds that will be showcased are Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon - Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe. Celestial Park will be the hub of the park, featuring a garden , fountains, and ponds with an astrology theme. Meanwhile, Dark Universe will be a monster-themed area that will include attractions based around Frankenstein, Dracula, and more. The other worlds will spotlight some of the most popular franchises in the world. The Ministry of Magic will take Harry Potter fans back in time to 1920s Paris, while Super Nintendo World will feature iconic characters such as Mario , Bowser, and Donkey Kong. According to event organisers, the Edinburgh Castle illumination will "dynamically transform from one world to another". The transitions will also "captivate the audience in this historic spectacle, allowing the fans to contribute to the launch of Epic Universe in an unforgettable, shareable experience". Guests attending the Edinburgh projection show will have a chance to win a seven-night trip to Universal Orlando Resort, including tickets to the Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, Universal Volcano Bay, and new Epic Universe theme parks. The winners will stay at the recently opened Universal Terra Luna Resort. Meanwhile, British Airways Holidays will provide the flights for the prize winner in the Club World cabin. British Airways Holidays is the official UK holiday launch partner of Epic Universe. Vice President International Sales & Marketing EMEA Alison Montague commented: "We are delighted to partner with Historic Environment Scotland who have entrusted us with Edinburgh Castle, a globally recognised icon and one of the most important symbols of Scottish history and culture. "Edinburgh Castle is a testament to the power of cultural imagination and forms a fantastic backdrop for us to bring to life the five worlds of Epic Universe. "Transporting fans into the worlds of Epic Universe sits at the heart of this projection and we can't wait to for the people of Scotland and beyond to experience the thrills of this brand-new theme park." The Universal Epic Universe projection is a free ticketed private event. However, there is "very limited capacity". Global content marketing agency TPF will deliver the Edinburgh leg of the project. As part of the campaign, Universal Orlando Resort will also project onto Battersea Power Station in London on May 1. Walt Disney World closing some of its original attractions for good
Attractions will permanently close in just a few weeks to make way for two new lands at the Florida theme park Walt Disney World in Florida is set to bid farewell to some of its original attractions in a matter of weeks, making room for two brand new lands, one of which is inspired by a beloved Pixar children's film series. The Liberty Square Riverboat, the Rivers of America, and Tom Sawyer Island will cease operations on July 7 to pave the way for a Cars-themed land. This closure signifies the end of an era for some of Magic Kingdom's original attractions, many of which have been a part of the park since its inauguration in 1971. The Liberty Square Riverboat has long provided guests with a picturesque journey around the Rivers of America aboard the Liberty Belle, while Tom Sawyer Island has offered an interactive, walk-through frontier adventure inspired by Mark Twain's cherished tales. Disney's announcement verifies that this area will soon undergo a complete transformation as part of the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom's history, reports the Mirror US. A new Cars-themed land named Piston Peak will take over the existing waterways and island, introducing a high-energy off-road rally experience featuring Lightning McQueen and friends at the heart of Frontierland. The park has hinted that the attraction will debut a brand-new ride system designed to emulate the sensation of navigating rugged terrain, hills, and rocky paths - a significant departure from the smooth, water-based attractions currently occupying the space. Also in the pipeline is a new area dedicated to Disney's infamous villains, celebrating all things 'bad guys', set to open behind Piston Peak. The launch dates for these exciting additions to the Magic Kingdom are yet to be announced, but it's widely believed that the Cars-themed experience will be the first to welcome visitors. Disney enthusiasts have a few weeks left to soak up the nostalgic charm of the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island before they permanently shut down on 6 July. Work on the Cars project is set to commence shortly after, with significant site work already taking place backstage.

Every major blockbuster movie being filmed in Scotland this summer
Scotland has become a popular location for Hollywood blockbusters with a number of films being shot in the country and more on the way, including the likes of The Odyssey and Spiderman 4. Scotland has increasingly become a favourite backdrop for Hollywood films over the years, with production companies and crews flocking to the country to discreetly shoot scenes for their latest cinematic offerings. From superhero epics and romantic historical dramas to fresh takes on classic gothic horrors, Scotland is fast becoming the preferred filming location for new releases. Last year, parts of Edinburgh and Aberdeenshire were transformed into a gothic horror setting for Guillermo del Toro's film Frankenstein, which explores the aftermath of Mary Shelley's tale and the fate of her monstrous creation. Glasgow also served as a filming location for the remake of the 80s classic The Running Man, featuring Top Gun Maverick's Glen Powell in the lead role. The much-anticipated reboot of the cult classic Highlander was slated to start shooting last month, with Superman actor Henry Cavill stepping into the shoes of immortal Connor Macleod, reports the Scottish Daily Express. Hollywood has already made its mark on Edinburgh, morphing parts of the city into an 80s sci-fi throwback for the film Ghostwriter, set in a mythical world conjured up by an author that turns out to be real. Details about Star Wars director JJ Abrams' latest project, starring Powell, Samuel Jackson and Jenna Ortega, remain closely guarded. However, production crews have been spotted filming on Glasgow's West College Street, Merchant Street, Candlemaker Row and Chambers Street. Warner Bros set designers are currently hard at work in Glasgow, constructing the sets for their upcoming film. Bothwell Street seems to be a focal point, with cobbled walls being erected and interior work taking place in an empty building next to Launch Coffee. The coffee shop has hinted to locals that it will serve as a filming location, reassuring them that it remains open. In August, roads will once again be closed off for the shooting of Marvel's Spiderman 4: A Brand New Day, leading to further closures around Bothwell, Blythswood and Waterloo Street. Yet, Scotland's run of hosting blockbuster films doesn't end there. Esteemed director Sir Christopher Nolan is poised to begin shooting his adaptation of The Odyssey, based on Homer's legendary epic poem. Matt Damon is set to portray Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, in a star-studded cast retelling the tale of his struggle to return home to his wife Penelope, rumoured to be played by Anne Hathaway, with Tom Holland speculated to be playing his son Telemachus. Nolan and his team plan to transform the dilapidated coastal fortress Findlater Castle in Aberdeenshire into a stand-in for ancient Greece and the Mediterranean. Filming is also expected to take place in Buckie and Cullen in Moray. It comes after 2022 blockbuster The Batman - starring Robert Pattinson and the Brad Pitt led 2013 zombie film World War Z were filmed in Glasgow.

Primavera 2025 review: eclipsed the hype in a blaze of glitter
The Cambridge-born hyperpop princess controlled the stage with military precision, diving into high-BPM hits like 365, Club Classics, and Von Dutch, stalking the risers like a hyperpop dominatrix. Troye, all grin and sweat and slippery synths, was her perfect foil making out with one of his dancers mid-song, slurring 'I'm drunk as shit right now,' and offering the audience just enough camp to temper Charli's industrial edge. Together, they brought down the house with their collab Talk Talk, before Charli surprised Troye with a Sweat-themed birthday cake. And in one of the most talked-about moments of the festival, the crowd got an early Chappell Roan teaser, as the camera panned to her in the crowd performing the now-iconic TikTok dance to Apple.
