Baramulla
: In a humanitarian effort to support the civilians affected by Pakistshelling during the
Indo-Pak conflict
,
Indian army
on Tuesday organised a
free medical camp
in the Uri sector of Baramulla.
Meanwhile, havoc has wreaked the life of locals in the
Rajouri district
who were the first to be in the line of fire during the Indo-Pak conflict.
The homes of these locals have been destroyed or are in a dilapidated condition, becoming uninhabitable.
Mohammad, an elder of a village in Rajouri, said that his entire house came down after shells hit the building. He appealed to the government to provide his family with tents and other assistance since they have nowhere to go.
"It was morning when I was going for my prayers, and we heard the explosion. We have a house with two floors, which came down. It has become uninhabitable. We should be given tents or some kind of assistance.
They (officials) came, saw and went away. I was admitted to the hospital (after injuries to the head) and recieved stitches. I have been discharged after seven days," he said.
"I took loans to teach my daughter...We have no support. I urge the government to help us in any way possible," he added.
Mariya, a family member, said that her uncle Mohammad and her cousins were inside the house when shelling occurred, after which they fainted and regained consciousness after a while.
"When shelling occurred, my uncle (Mohammad) and his family members were inside the house. The shelling has caused massive losses to them. They have worked as labour to educate their daughters.
Everyone in the house fainted when the shells hit the house. As soon as they regained consciousness, they tended to my uncle's injuries. We appeal to the government to help them," she said.
Saima, daughter of Mohammad, said that her father educated them by indulging in labour and built the house by taking loans. She lamented that many household items kept for her newly wedded sister were also destroyed due to the shelling.
Intense shelling by Pakistan during the recent conflict with India has left a trail of destruction in the border villages and districts across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, with locals suffering damages to their houses and livelihood.
Reportedly, the locals have suffered damages to their livestock, properties, and essentially their livelihood in border areas such as Nowshera.
Over a week ago, the locals residing in the border villages demanded that the government compensate them for the damaged houses. They also urge the Indian government "not to spare Pakistan" for its misadventures.

‘Every festival should be celebrated with love': Bihar governor visits YouTuber Khan Sir's coaching institute in Patna during Eid celebrations; discusses education, culture & crimes against women

NEW DELHI: Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Saturday visited educator and YouTuber Khan Sir's coaching institute in Patna on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha, where they discussed education, cultural preservation, and social issues including crimes against women. During the visit, Governor Khan observed the classroom facilities and expressed interest in teaching a class himself. "Every festival should be celebrated with love... I have seen Khan Sir on YouTube too. This young man is doing a great job... So many blessings must pour for him out of the hearts of poor students who can't pay fees... All my thanks and good wishes to him. May God grant him the power to do greater work so he can create more students like him who serve society with compassion," said Governor Khan. Khan Sir explained the purpose of the Governor's visit, saying "The Governor came here today as part of the Eid al Adha celebrations... He wanted to see the classroom. After he got on stage, he said that he wants to take a class too... He said that our culture should be preserved. Western culture is dominating India. Indian culture is fading away. We have to preserve our heritage." The discussion also touched upon the recent rape case of a minor girl in Muzaffarpur. Khan Sir shared his conversation with the Governor on this matter. "I spoke to the Governor about this... Such people should be boycotted. What do you expect in a country where even rapists get good lawyers?... I request the lawyers of our country that if all the lawyers unite so that if someone has committed rape, acid attack, burnt a woman to death, kidnapping then they will not get a good lawyer. Such incidents should be brought under the category of treason... The Governor was also very concerned about this matter," Khan Sir stated. Carney invites Modi to G7, says India ‘must be at table'

Toronto: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney extended an invitation to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to attend the G7 leaders' summit in Alberta later this month after consultations with other countries that are part of the group and the belief that New Delhi needed to 'be at the table.' Responding to a question at a press conference, in Ottawa, on Friday, Carney said the G7 will be discussing energy security, digital future, critical minerals and building infrastructure in the emerging and developing world. 'There are certain countries that should be at the table for those discussions and in my capacity as G7 chair, in consultation with some others, make those determinations. India is the fifth largest economy in the world, effectively the most populous country in the world, central to, at the heart of those supply chains,' he said. Carney extended the invitation during the course of a telephone conversation with Modi on Friday. The leaders' summit will be held from June 15 to June 17 in Kananaskis, a resort in the province of Alberta. Carney was asked whether US President Donald Trump was involved in those consultations, and he replied in the negative. He also indicated the India has been more forthcoming in cooperating on the investigation of the killing of pro-Khalistan figure Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, 2023. The G7 summit is scheduled to conclude a day prior to the second anniversary of the murder. 'Bilaterally, we have now agreed, importantly, to continue law enforcement dialogue so there's been some progress on that,' he said. He said the invitation had been issued in that context. He was asked allegations that have appeared in Canadian media about Modi having some role in the Nijjar killing but he said he did not address the matter directly as he pointed out there 'is a legal process that is literally underway and quite advanced in Canada and it's never appropriate to make any comments.' In November last year, Canada's National Security and Intelligence Advisor or NSIA Nathalie G Drouin, in a statement, said, 'The Government of Canada has not stated, nor is it aware of evidence, linking Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi, (External Affairs) Minister (S) Jaishankar, or NSA (Ajit) Doval to the serious criminal activity within Canada.' 'Any suggestion to the contrary is both speculative and inaccurate,' she added. The statement was issued by the Privy Council Office. Drouin is also Deputy Clerk of the Privy Council, which is akin to India's Cabinet Secretariat. The invitation to Modi was also supported by Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre. 'India has been at the last six G7 conferences. It's one of the biggest and fastest-growing economies in the world. We need to sell our natural gas, our civilian nuclear power technology and other resource projects to India,' he said, adding, 'We want to see the government work on addressing security issues at the same time when the prime minister has those conversations.' The move was opposed by the New Democratic Party or NDP and even Liberal Party MP Sukh Dhaliwal. The latter's riding (as constituencies are called in Canada) Surrey-Newton includes the gurdwara Nijjar led at the time of his death.
