Row over Suresh Gopi-starrer ‘Janaki vs State of Kerala' deepens as another CBFC panel seeks title change

The row over Union Minister Suresh Gopi's forthcoming Malayalam movie 'Janaki vs State of Kerala' has escalated. Days after producers of the movie moved the high court against the delay in film certification, yet another panel of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has sought a change in the film title. In a post on social media Thursday, Praveen Narayanan, the film director, said that the CBFC's revising committee wanted a change not only in the movie title but also in the name of the protagonist. 'The committee wanted to change the name Janaki,' he said in a social media post. Later, he said: 'They (CBFC) have asked us to rename the main protagonist to something else'. The row pertains to the name Janaki – another name for Hindu Goddess Sita — in the title. The courtroom drama follows Janaki, a woman who seeks justice after a traumatic event. While actor Anupama Parameswaran plays Janaki, actor-politician Suresh Gopi plays a senior advocate representing her in court. Before the revising committee, CBFC's examining committee too had asked for the name of the protagonist – as well as the movie title – to be changed. While CBFC's examining committee is responsible for reviewing films and assigning them the appropriate certification for public exhibition, the revising committee reviews films in cases where the applicant is unsatisfied with recommendations or suggested changes. The movie was slated to be released on June 27. With the release of the movie in limbo, its producers Cosmos Entertainment have moved the Kerala High Court, which has directed the CBFC to inform it of the revising committee's decision on its next hearing on June 27. Meanwhile, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala had criticised the CBFC for its stand, saying it would create a crisis in the industry.

Exclusive: Kajol calls Alia Bhatt the most promising star of new generation

In an exclusive interview with India Today, actor Kajol opened up about the current crop of talent in the film industry. She commented on the comparisons between the actors of her generation and the Gen-Z stars. The 50-year-old appreciated stars like Alia Bhatt for carving their own path in the industry."I'm very happy to say that there is none," Kajol said when asked if anyone from the younger generation reminded her of the way she was in the '90s. "It's not an arrogant statement or anything like that. But each one of the actors that we have has very clearly made their own world. They are not following anyone's footprints - and they shouldn't. It's a different world today," she further emphasised that actors today are driven by their own vision, highlighting that it was not the same case back when she started working in the industry. "They are very clearly following their own ideas about what films they should and shouldn't do. And they're even clearer about who they are. Their identity is pretty much set in stone, and it's not a map of anybody else," she said. When asked about the most promising star from the newer generation, Kajol responded with admiration for multiple young talents but acknowledged Alia Bhatt's rise in particular. She said, "Alia, I think she has proven herself quite a bit. So, I mean, yeah... Then you have Ananya, Janhvi, Sara - the regular - all of them."Kajol is currently promoting her upcoming film 'Maa', which is all set to release in theatres on June 27.- EndsMust Watch IN THIS STORY#Kajol Devgan
