Hospital holds rally to raise awareness of schizophrenia
The rally was flagged off on AMCH premises by P. Azeem, Inspector of Police, Thillai Nagar. AMCH consultant psychiatrists M. Sridhar and M. Rajaram spoke on the importance of early diagnosis and support for individuals living with schizophrenia, a mental disorder characterised by disruptions in thought processes, perceptions and emotional responsiveness.
The initiative aimed to destigmatise schizophrenia and encourage community understanding through public engagement and awareness. Participants marched with placards and slogans advocating mental health care and inclusion.
A signature campaign was also organised, inviting the public to pledge their support for mental health awareness

Dibrugarh: Dr Gayatri Gogoi, associate professor at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) and adjunct researcher at ICMR-Regional Medical Research Centre, North East, on Sunday broke new ground as she became the first from the northeast to be honoured with the coveted Blackbuck Pioneer Researcher Award for her contributions to cancer research, during a ceremony in Delhi. Plan to increase AMCH MBBS seats to 250: CM
1 2 3 4 5 6 Dibrugarh: Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh is set for a significant expansion in medical education capacity, with CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announcing plans to increase MBBS seats from the current 200 to 250 for the upcoming academic session. The announcement was made during a foundation stone laying ceremony for infrastructure development projects worth Rs 357 crore at the AMCH campus. The CM revealed that the proposal for the seat enhancement is currently in its final approval stage, with the govt optimistic about implementing the additional 50 seats this year. "In 1947, Assam Medical College started MBBS course with 57 students. Now we have 200 MBBS seats. Hopefully we will be able to add another 50 seats taking the total number of MBBS seats to 250 from this year itself," Sarma said. This expansion represents a 25% increase in the institution's intake capacity, marking a significant milestone for medical education in Assam. Dibrugarh: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the ambitious extension of AMCH, with a new state-of-the-art hospital at Jail Road in Dibrugarh, marking a significant milestone in Assam's healthcare transformation journey. "This hospital will be a milestone in Assam's journey towards providing world-class medical facilities. This hospital will complement the existing AMCH infrastructure and create a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem for the people. This project represents our vision of accessible, quality healthcare for all. The strategic location of the hospital will make advanced medical services easily accessible to people from across Dibrugarh district and neighboring areas," Sarma said, while addressing a public rally at the old high school playground, after laying the foundation stone. The six-storey city hospital is being constructed under the Assam State Secondary Healthcare Initiative for Service Delivery Transformation (ASSIST). This comprehensive programme is designed to revolutionize the state's healthcare infrastructure, aiming to ensure better healthcare services reach every citizen while establishing Assam as a healthcare hub.
