CM Revanth Reddy visit shakes GHMC out of deep slumber
Sources said the civic body will prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for laying a Storm Water Drain (SWD) network to address clear water stagnation during heavy rains in nearby colonies of the major nala running from Krishnakanth Park, Madhura Nagar, Maitrivanam, Aditya Trade Centre to Satyam Theatre in Ameerpet.
The GHMC will hire consultancy services to prepare a DPR for the SWD network by August 14. This includes a survey of drainage systems and flood-prone areas, an assessment of existing conditions and an analysis of deficiencies from both hydraulic and structural perspectives.
The consultancy will also identify obstructions, bottlenecks, and encroachments, develop a rehabilitation plan, estimate flood discharge and provide hydraulic designs based on a five-year return period.
Plans will cover shifting or replacing utilities within the RoW, such as drinking water pipelines, sewer lines, electrical lines, transformers and trees. A Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey up to a maximum depth of five metres will be conducted, and utility mapping will be finalised in coordination with HMWSSB, TGSPDCL, TRANSCO, HMDA and other departments concerned.

In Independence Day speech, CM Revanth Reddy urges Centre to clear BC quota bills
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday urged the Centre to approve Telangana's landmark bills providing 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies, education and employment. The CM was addressing the gathering after hoisting the national flag during the 79th Independence Day celebrations held at Golconda Fort. Citing figures from the socio-economic survey conducted by the state government, covering 1.12 crore families, Revanth said the findings revealed that BCs constitute 56.33% of the state's population. 'Based on this data, our government has introduced 42% reservation for BCs. The bills passed by the state legislature have been sent to the Centre for approval. On this historic occasion, I urge the Union government to clear the bills,' he said. Revanth underscored his government's commitment to social justice, highlighting that Telangana is the first state in the country to implement Scheduled Caste (SC) sub-categorisation following a Supreme Court verdict, classifying 59 sub-castes into three distinct groups. The chief minister also painted a stark picture of the state's fiscal health, revealing that the Congress government had inherited a staggering debt burden of Rs 8,21,652 crore. This included Rs 6,71,757 crore in borrowings, Rs 40,154 crore in pending employee dues and scheme liabilities, and Rs 1,09,740 crore in obligations under the SC/ST sub-plan, Singareni Collieries, and the power sector, he said. Despite these constraints, the government has serviced Rs 2,20,676 crore in debt — Rs 1,32,498 crore in principal and Rs 88,178 crore in interest — while continuing welfare initiatives, he added. 'Mahalakshmi scheme benefitted women, RTC' Revanth, meanwhile, said that the Mahalakshmi scheme, which provides free bus travel for women, was a success. 'Launched within 48 hours of the government taking charge, the initiative has issued over 200 crore zero-fare tickets, saving women passengers an estimated Rs 6,790 crore collectively,' he highlighted. 'This is not just about free travel — it is about financial independence, educational access, and social mobility for women,' he said, adding that the scheme revitalised the state's transport corporation.

GHMC Mayor, Commissioner hoist national flag
Hyderabad: Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi on Friday said that the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is instrumental in transforming Greater Hyderabad into a world-class city. The Mayor was addressing the gathering after hoisting the National Flag at the GHMC Head Office as part of the 79th Independence Day celebrations. As part of the programme, loans worth Rs 288.85 crore were distributed to 2,597 Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Under the Self Employment Programme (SEP), Rs 1.15 crore was extended to 155 individuals for setting up micro-enterprises. The Mayor highlighted GHMC's efforts in promoting inclusive development, noting that transgenders trained in graphic designing at the Light House Communities Skilling Centre received job offer letters from Red TV. Four beneficiaries — Madhuraj, Emran Khan, Naveena, and Varun Tej — were appreciated during the event. Driving licences for two- and three-wheeler light motor vehicles were also issued to five women to support their livelihoods. This financial year, 3,460 new SHGs were formed under GHMC's initiatives. Announcing upcoming citizen welfare measures, the Mayor said Indiramma Canteens would soon be inaugurated across the GHMC limits. She stated that a Civil Registration System Portal for issuing birth and death certificates will be launched shortly to facilitate public access to these services. She also stated In an effort to enhance urban flood management and improve stormwater infrastructure, the GHMC has embarked on plans to implement GIS-based survey and mapping of storm water drains within its limits soon. Commissioner R.V.
