Connie Francis' death not a shock
The veteran musician passed away on Wednesday night (16.07.25) at the age of 87 , just weeks after she told fans she had been hospitalised due to "extreme pain" and Ron Roberts, her friend and president of her label Concetta Records, has told how his pal's health had been in decline for the last few weeks.
Ron told People magazine: "We were expecting it, unfortunately … they couldn't locate where the pain was exactly."
Connie had though it was just trouble with her hip "that she'd been having for some time."
The 'Who's Sorry Now?' singer had maintained a positive attitude until the end.
Hailing Connie a "fighter", Ron said: "It's been two months of the most extreme high then the most extreme low."
The singer was able to leave hospital for a few days before her death but she began to "deteriorate" and was unconscious for at least the final two days of her life.
Ron said: "She slipped away peacefully."
Of the final time they spoke, he added: "She was obviously in pain and she was very weak. She'd been in hospital a good week by that time. She was tired. [Having all the tests done] is debilitating."
Despite her declining health, Connie had been cheered in recent months due to her 1962 track Pretty Little Baby taking TikTok by storm.
Ron said: "That is the incredible story, I think: That she left this world as big a star [as she ever was]."
Asked how Connie would like to be remembered, her friend thinks she would be happy with the line: "I hope I did okay."
He added: "She'd get a kick out of seeing that [written]."
Connie - whose real name was Concetta Franconero - rose to fame in the 1950s and scored a number of chart hits including Stupid Cupid, Lipstick on Your Collar, Who's Sorry Now, and Where the Boys Are.
Her cover of Who's Sorry Now helped propel her to fame after it was featured on Dick Clark's American Bandstand in 1958 and it went on to sell more than a million copies and score her a number one hit in the UK.
Connie's career went into decline in the late 1960 and the following decade was blighted by a number of personal tragedies.
She was raped in a Long Island motel room in 1974 and three years later, she temporarily lost her voice after undergoing nasal surgery.
Connie attempted to stage a career comeback in 1981, but her brother George was murdered by the mafia and her work was hindered by mental health struggles, with her father having her committed to multiple psychiatric facilities.
Away from the spotlight, the singer was married four times, but just one of her unions lasted longer than a year.
Her 1964 marriage to Dick Kanellis ended after five months, with her second, to Izzy Marion in 1971, ending in divorce 10 months later.
Connie's longest marriage was her third, to Joseph Garzilli - with whom she adopted son Joseph Jr. - and lasted from 1973 until 1977. Her fourth union, with Bob Parkinson in 1985, also lasted just a few months.

Veronica, who has nearly 600,000 followers on TikTok, said she 'doesn't know how the world would survive' said without influencers and content creators. She said people wouldn't know where to eat, how to do their makeup or what to wear without content creators. At one point, it was suggested influencers all unite in not posting until more respect was given. 'I've decided to start an Australian influencer union,' she said, adding that influencers did need to stay humble. 'People think this is all a joke but it's not and it's about time we do get respect and appreciation for all that we do,' she said at the event Wednesday night. 'TikTok has already overtaken Google as the biggest search engine for Gen Z when they're want to find somewhere to eat or visit or anything and it's our content driving that. That's the influence we have.' On the night, several influencers shared their thoughts on the narrative that being a content creator wasn't a 'real job' or that it 'wasn't hard work'. Jasmin Mitwali was asked if she thought she worked harder than a teacher or a doctor, she said, 'Honestly I do.' 'It's a different type of work. You have to stay relevant and come up with content all the time. 'It's not just scrolling. You really have to do the work behind the scenes.' Dani Russell, one half of Dani and Blake, said that influencers didn't need more respect from the public but 'more understanding'. Isaias Vego said being a content creator was 'not easy'. He said coming up with ideas and editing was hard, but he didn't pay attention to haters because 'they want to be us'. Yisra said 'any work was hard' and if you were complaining about other people's work you need to 'fix yourself'. Video of Veronica's speech has landed online, and people have had a lot to say about it. 'This has to be rage bait,' one person said. Another added: 'There are people dying Kim!' One asked if she was being serious, while another social media user bluntly commented: 'Get a real job.' Nicole Reaney, PR Expert and CEO InsideOut Public Relations, said this 'wasn't an ideal approach'. 'Influencers rely on their personal brands and popularity to generate social communities and brand interest,' Ms Reaney said. 'Deliberately provoking 'the hand that feeds you' can tarnish an image. Particularly when brands conduct digital audits ahead of scoping potential influencer partners.' She said that mega influencers are attracting as much as $10,000 for a single post — but this can quickly come undone if they are involved in controversy. 'Influencers are easily mocked as there are some public community groups that perceive their role as inferior to traditional jobs,' she said. 'However the influencer market is on the rise. The market is set to be worth $1257 million by 2028 — as brands recognise that peer reviews and agile content drives word of mouth and brand trial. More than half of young consumers will purchase a product showcased by an influencer. There is a humanistic element to them versus traditional celebrities.' She said if influencers truly wanted to shift perceptions, a good start would be becoming more conscious of the personal brand they represent, and elevate what is happening behind the scenes.

LADY EXTREME (1) has a big weight to contend with but she is very genuine in all conditions and sure to give a good sight again. And SISTER DAAE (11) is a lightly-raced mare who is improving all the time. She finished off well last start and she is bred to like it wet. Shayno: Concur with your TUILIERIES (7) assessment, Duff. This is easily doable for her; she just has to handle the heavy. SISTER DAAE (11) is third-up now, at home, off a good run followed by a very good run. METAPHORICALLY (1) did it well winning last start and should get across from the sticky draw in a race that doesn't look too fast on paper. GRAND PRAIRIE (11) only won a midweek maiden last start but he looks a colt with a bit of quality about him who might have more to offer. Shayno: Me too, again! CONCORDIA WIND (7) was the third top priced yearling at the 2023 HTBA Sale at $100,000 when she actually has a 'million dollar pedigree'. Consider this; she is by Justify out of a Redoute's Choice daughter of Stella Cadente. She's already won $122,825 in 7 starts. One win was here, one other was on a Heavy 8 at Gosford. ART'S ALIVE (4) has raced at this track and distance twice for a win and a third. She's come back really well, noting that her two thirds this preparation were both by under a neck between her and the winner(s). She was terrific winning first-up at Rosehill on the Heavy. Two runs on firmer tracks have been okay so I just feel now that she gets the Heavy track again that she can lift. CAPTAIN FURAI (7) looked very good in his first preparation, all on wet tracks. Three runs on dry last prep were just fair but I am gambling that he might be a wet-tracker and thus hard to beat. CLIMB THE LADDER (14) has had three trials which should have him ready to go. Although untried in the wet, he is a huge yard and market watch. And JUST IN TIME (12) has been dominant for the new stable, winning the past two. Harder race now but hard to knock a winner. I thought he was very good winning first-up and although up in grade, the light weight suits him and he is capable of going on with the job. BUNKER HUT (9); it is a month since an acceptable run first-up. He maps well from the draw and he is very genuine. WAR ETERNAL (3) is a good speck at odds here. He likes it wet and is another one who usually lifts there second-up as a rule. Although I wish it was a touch further but you can't let him go at the price. And GERIATRIX (7) is another huge watch here. He has been gelded, second prep for Chris Waller, and he had good New Zealand form before arriving in Australia. Shayno: Just for what it is worth, I am expecting bigger and better things this preparation from the former Kiwi resident GERIATRIX (7) than what we saw from him in his brief and underwhelming Xmas campaign. He had a fine record back in NZ when Lance O'Sullivan had him. Seems to handle the wet, but how wet? ASTERO (5) 's numbers tell it better than words can; 11 starts at Rosehill for 2-2-2, 13 starts at the trip for 3-1-3 and best of all; 10 starts on Heavy for 3-2-1. Happy 50th start Astero! SPYWIRE (3) is third-up now, no luck start, and although untried on the Heavy, he is primed. FIRST PERSON (13) is a good longshot. Disappointed last start but went back to trials and looked good and has great Heavy form. Shayno: ROSELYN'S STAR (7) is one of the horses with the most promise, upside is the word they usually use. This third generation descendant of Blue Diamond winner True Jewels went '212' at his first preparation; the seconds were to Gatsby's and Espionage and the win was a big one over Perspiration. Trials? Three of them, all wins. HANAU (5) will have his first start for Mark Minervini here. Last start winner beating a next start winner. CATCH THE GLORY (8) and BALKANS (4) are among the many other chances.
