Chris Evans Shares Details of Proposal to Alba Baptista: ‘I Actually Think I Screwed It Up'
On Saturday, Chris Evans attended the premiere of his newest film, A24's Materialists, in New York City. During a chat with The Knot, the actor shared never-before-heard details about his romantic proposal to wife Alba Baptista. The star admitted that he wanted to ask Baptista to marry him in her native language, Portuguese, and practiced so much it was taking over his brain.
'Maybe I shouldn't even be saying this. I proposed to my now-wife in Portuguese—she's Portuguese,' Evans said. 'So I learned how to say, 'Will you marry me?' in Portuguese. And I had practiced all week.'
He continued, 'I had practiced it so much that, while her and I, I'd be making breakfast and you almost just start saying it out loud and you're like, 'Oh God.' That's not just a song that's stuck in my head, it's gonna let the cat out of the bag.'
When the moment came, Evans was 'really nervous.'
'I actually think I screwed it up,' he admitted. 'But I still know it!'
The pair have been publicly linked since November 2022, but had reportedly already been dating for a year. In 2023, news broke that they had married in a private ceremony in Cape Cod. A source told People, 'It was kind of love at first sight [for Evans]. They got serious very quickly. He kept saying he knew she was the one.'
Evans 'has been the happiest since they met,' the source added. '[She is] everything to him.'
'She is beautiful, smart and just a good person,' the insider continued. 'She is involved in charity work and truly cares about doing good. She is a very positive and happy person. It's rubbed off on him. It's the best news that they are married.'

A concertgoer shared footage of the moment on TikTok, which has since garnered more than a million views. In the clip, Martin can be seen at the end of the show, thanking the huge crowd. "Thank you, everybody! Be kind to each other!" Martin said into the mic. He then added, "Don't forget to go see Materialists!" The Clocks singer was referring to the new romantic comedy starring Johnson. In Materialists, which premieres this week, she plays a New York City matchmaker who becomes torn between a new potential love, played by Pedro Pascal and a messy ex, played by Chris Evans. On 4 June, multiple sources reported that Martin and Johnson had ended their nearly eight-year relationship. The pair, who were first romantically linked in 2017, were photographed together for the last time in May, when they stepped out in Malibu, California. Before that, in January, the pair held hands in India, where Martin was touring with his band. People magazine reported that Martin's ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, plans to stay close to Johnson, revealing that they "developed a close friendship" over the years, and that the Goop founder "fully intends on maintaining that bond".

I didn't get it,' Sweetin continues, before saying she eventually understood. 'I was like, 'Oh, sorry actually, the joke was great.' ' Sweetin's sneak peek into the group chat came as she and former Full House costar Andrea Barber, 48, were hosting their live episode on Thursday, reuniting with John Stamos, 61, and Loughlin, 60, as part of their rewatch. The latter pair took a look back on the love story between their characters — Uncle Jesse and Becky Donaldson Katsopolis — and their season 4 wedding. The How Rude, Tanneritos! podcast, which premiered in July as commentary on the beloved ABC series, also allows the two hosts to reminisce. 'Oh my gosh, we have been screaming, literally, I walked out screaming and saying, 'Jodie,' ' says Barber, who played Kimmy Gibbler. 'I walked into her dressing room, and she was jumping up and down. And, you know, we do the podcast. When we do it, normally, we're each at our houses, and we do it over Zoom.' Barber said the live events are something she usually feels "really nervous and apprehensive" about, but she didn't experience either of those feelings when chatting with Stamos and Loughlin because she was "just stoked to be here." "Some 40 years ago, his great-uncle built a tennis club there, on what was a clay-pigeon shooting range," according to Vogue, which said Alcaraz's dad played professional tennis "until he couldn't afford to continue." Alcaraz told Vogue he was born "with tennis in my blood," and his dad "became the director" of the family tennis club. Alcaraz also has an older brother named Alvaro, who "played in tournaments before him" and two younger brothers who are "passionate about tennis." Alcaraz "got his first racket at the age of four," and his father told Vogue he would cry as a kid when he had to stop playing tennis in order to have dinner. 'In my family, I think we have the sport in our blood,' Alcaraz told The New York Times. 'We all played from the time we were young.' He told "You have to be surrounded by great people. I'm a lucky guy to have such a great team. I'm going to say the best team in the tour right now,' Alcaraz says. 'But also my family, my friends are nice persons. For me, it's really, really important. As I said, doing great in tennis because of the people that I have around.'
