No BJP alliance ever: Ex-revenue officer who joined actor Vijay's party

India Today11 hours ago
In an exclusive interaction with India Today, KG Arunraj, a former Indian Revenue Service officer and now the general secretary of propaganda and policy of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), dismissed any alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and claimed that the party led by actor-politician Vijay is all set to form the next government in Tamil Nadu.Arunraj, who took voluntary retirement to join Vijay's newly launched political outfit in June, said the TVK has never entertained the idea of aligning with the BJP.advertisement'Our leader made it very clear in our first party conference at Vikravandi that there will be no alliance - direct or indirect - with the BJP. This has been our stand right from the beginning,' he stated, referring to recent speculation.
Responding to comments by BJP leaders like Nainar Nagendran and Tamilisai Soundararajan, who suggested Vijay should align with the BJP, Arunraj dismissed them as 'unsolicited advice.' He said, 'If they really have strength in Tamil Nadu, they should grow their party organically. They claim to be the biggest party in India, then why do they need our shoulders? We are not here to let anyone climb using us. Tamil and Periyar soil will continue to shut the doors on the BJP- now and forever.'Arunraj positioned TVK as the sole force genuinely opposing the ruling DMK, calling out what he described as the Chief Minister's 'work-from-home politics.' He cited Vijay's visit to actor Ajith Kumar's home in Sivakasi to personally offer condolences, contrasting it with the CM's gesture of only calling. 'Our leader has stepped onto the ground from day one and shown he genuinely cares for the people,' he said.Addressing suggestions that TVK is being soft on the AIADMK in the hopes of a future alliance, Arunraj denied such motives. 'Our job is to question the party in power. Since DMK is ruling, we are questioning DMK. Our leader has made it clear—TVK is neither AIADMK nor DMK to make compromises with BJP,' he added. On the issue of youth support, Arunraj said that the entry of Vijay into politics has energized a generation disillusioned by corruption and dynastic politics. 'Before TVK, there was apathy among youth. Today, they are our biggest strength. Vijay evoked the legacies of Periyar, Kamarajar, Velunachiyar, and Anjalai Ammal, reintroducing their ideologies to a generation that had lost touch.'Responding to Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's remark that politics is not easy and that Vijay should be prepared for hardship, Arunraj took the comment in stride. 'We are not AIADMK, DMK or even Jana Sena. We know politics is difficult. Easy things anyone can do - difficult things are for great leaders like Vijay,' he said.On the road ahead, Arunraj was confident that the 2026 Assembly elections would mark a turning point. 'TVK will sweep the elections. We will form the government and Vijay will be sworn in as Chief Minister. He will bring real development to Tamil Nadu,' he said.- EndsMust Watch

'Hit below their eardrums': In Mumbai, Thackeray cousins go no-filter

NEW DELHI: After more than 20 years of political estrangement, cousins Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray came together on Saturday at a joint rally in Mumbai. The event, titled Awaj Marathicha (Voice of the Marathi) marked the first time since 2005 that the two leaders shared the same political platform. Organised to celebrate the rollback of two state government resolutions introducing Hindi from Class 1 in schools, the rally also signalled a potential new political alliance. 'Yes, we are gunda' He then turned his attention to the BJP, accusing it of political opportunism. "You (BJP) have used us enough already. If you didn't have the support of Balasaheb Thackeray, who knew you in Maharashtra? Who are you to teach us about Hindutva? When riots were happening in Mumbai, then we Marathi people had saved every Hindu in Maharashtra, be it anyone. If you are calling Marathi people 'gundas' doing their protest, seeking justice. Then yes, we are gunda." Calling for lasting unity among regional parties and leaders, he said, "Our strength is in our unity, whenever some challenging time comes, we all come together, but we all have experienced that when the challenging time passes, we all go for our personal interests, which should not happen this time..." Uddhav also accused the BJP of damaging Maharashtra's industrial and economic base, "They always ask us what we did for Marathi people in Mumbai during our rule in BMC. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Providers are furious: Internet access without a subscription! Techno Mag Learn More Undo Now we are asking the question: in the last 11 years of your rule, what have you done? You have pushed away Mumbai's important establishment to Gujarat. Businesses are being transferred to Gujarat. Big offices are going to Gujarat. The diamond business has already shifted to Gujarat, so you have made all attempts to break the backbone of Maharashtra and continue to do that, and you are asking questions to us. " 'You must hit below their eardrums' Raj Thackeray on the other hand addressed both the language issue and the criticism directed at his party. "Be it Gujarati or anyone else here, must know Marathi, but there is no need to beat people for that if they don't speak Marathi. But if someone shows useless drama, you must hit below their eardrums. I tell you one more thing: if you beat someone, don't make a video of the incident. Let the person beaten up tell that he has been beaten up, you don't need to tell everyone that you have beaten someone." He also pushed back at those who questioned the MNS's commitment to Marathi simply because their children studied in English-medium schools. "They say that our children have learnt in English medium schools. So what? Dada Bhuse studied in Marathi schools and became a minister. Devendra Fadnavis studied in an English-medium school and became the Maharashtra CM. So what? I would tell you that I studied in a Marathi school, but my father, Shrikant Thackeray, and uncle, Balasaheb Thackeray, studied in an English medium school. Can anyone raise a question about their love for Marathi? Tomorrow, I will learn Hebrew also. Will anyone raise a question about my pride in Marathi?" He concluded his speech by framing the Hindi language policy as a broader test of regional resilience. "I don't have anything against Hindi, no language is bad. It takes a lot of effort to build a language. We Marathi people ruled over a lot of states during the Maratha Empire, but we never enforced Marathi on those parts. They started with the experiment of imposing Hindi over us and were trying to test if we would not have opposed it, they would have gone upto making Mumbai separate from Maharashtra."

Raj & Uddhav share public platform after 20 years

Mumbai, July 5 (UNI) In a turning point in Maharashtra politics, the Thackeray cousins, Uddhav and Raj, came together under one platform after two decades amplifying the cause of Maharashtra and Marathi-manoos. The ruling BJP-led Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA)-INDIA opposition bloc are witnessing the development keenly. Uddhav, the Shiv Sena (UBT) head, is an MVA ally. Raj, the founder-president of MNS, is currently independent of an alliance. After differences with Uddhav, Raj had walked out of the undivided Balasaheb Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, in 2005 and in 2006, he formed the MNS. The coming together of the cousins in 2025 -- after a gap of 20 years -- is significant on many counts. Significantly, the year 2026 marks the 100th birth anniversary of Balasaheb -- the founder of Shiv Sena -- and 60th foundation year of the party. Founded by late Balasaheb (January 23, 1926-November 17, 2012), the Shiv Sena is at crossroads because of a split in the party which once had a dominant position in the western Indian state's politics where for over quarter of a century, coalition politics has been the order. From the iconic Shivaji Park, which Sainiks refer to as Shiv-Teerth, Balasaheb, in his first Dussehra rally on October 30, 1966 had given the message of '80 takke samaj-karan, 20 takke raj-karan' (80 per cent social work, 20 per cent politics). Today, Uddhav and Raj plan to "go back to basics' for the revival of their respective parties which posted their worst-ever performance in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly polls. Four major rebellions mark the the regional party's political journey: first by Chhagan Bhujbal (1991) followed by Narayan Rane (2005), then, Raj Thackeray (2005-06) and finally by Eknath Shinde (2022), who now controls the 'real' Shiv Sena and the iconic 'dhanushya-baan' (bow and arrow) electoral symbol. has deeply affected the party. While Raj floated MNS on March 9, 2006 and has the 'railway engine' symbol, Uddhav heads Shiv Sena (UBT) and has the 'mashaal' (flaming torch) symbol. Eknath Shinde toppled the Uddhav-led Maha Vikas Aghadi dispensation comprising the Congress and undivided Shiv Sena and undivided Sharad Pawar-led NCP. He joined hands with BJP to become the Chief Minister with the party's former CM Devendra Fadnavis as the Deputy CM. A year later, Ajit Pawar rebelled against his uncle and joined hands with BJP to become the Deputy CM. The year 2024 came with a mixed bag. In the Lok Sabha polls, the MVA performed very well in Maharashtra, however, Fadnavis with the support of the RSS turned tables and ensured that the opposition benches did not get the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly. In the 2024 Assembly polls, Shiv Sena could barely get 20 seats while MNS failed to open its account. UNI AAA PRS

Bengaluru: Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya on Saturday led an agitation against repeated delays in opening of the Yellow Line Metro in the city. The BJP leader said that there would be protests in metro stations if BMRCL breaks its August deadline for the operationalisation of the line to calls by citizens and public representatives on the early opening of Namma Metro's Yellow Line, the BMRCL stated that the RV Road-Bommasandra metro line would 'hopefully' be thrown open in mid-August. Surya, in response, denounced the BMRCL for breaking its own deadlines over 10 times on the Yellow Line and warned of protests in the metro stations along the route by the public if this final commitment by the metro organisation is broken Metro's daily ridership will rise from 8.5 lakh to 14 lakh, says BMRCL chief .'Bengaluru's traffic crisis can be resolved only if private vehicles on the road reduce and ridership in public transport increases,' Surya said, addressing a crowd outside Lalbagh. 'Due to the delay in the opening of the Yellow Line, commuters are stuck in traffic jams at Silk Board and other junctions. The BMRCL has been breaking its own deadlines several times. If this commitment to open the line in August is also broken, then people will have no option but to protest outside each of the Yellow Line's unopened metro stations.'On Saturday, a delegation of citizens, led by Surya, Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan, MLAs M Krishnappa (Bengaluru South), Ravi Subramanya (Basavanagudi), Uday Garudachar (Chickpet), CK Ramamurthy (Jayanagar), MLC Gopinath Reddy and BJP Bengaluru South organisational district, staged a protest at Lalbagh Main Gate. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the BMRCL MD at the their memorandum, they criticized the BMRCL for causing severe inconvenience to Bengalureans in their daily commute due to the ongoing delays in the opening of the Yellow Line. The Yellow Line spans from RV Road to Bommasandra, covering 16 stations over a distance of 19.15 km. Once operational, the line is expected to serve 2.5 lakh passengers daily, significantly easing congestion in critical areas like Electronic City and Silk Board. It was initially slated to open in 2021, but multiple delays over the years have created uncertainty regarding its opening and operationalisation.. First scheduled for 2021, the launch was pushed to late 2023, then postponed to just before the 2024 General Elections. Following that, a new deadline of January 2025 was announced, which has now been extended to July 2025. Even now, BMRCL officials are only hopeful of having the line operational by August Yellow Line to get first fully India-made train in early Aug, two a month from has been at the forefront in pushing for the completion of the line's civil works. He also addressed several roadblocks during this period. Through multiple stakeholder meetings and ministerial interventions, Surya enabled the early supply of car bodies for the metro train and also obtained the necessary visa clearances for the Chinese engineers working on the metro rakes. He also coordinated a dedicated line in Titagarh for manufacturing trains for BMRCL. Surya also coordinated between CRRC and software provider Melco to deliver the beta version of TCMS (Train Control Management Software) by January 2024, ahead of its earlier June 2024 PC Mohan and other BJP MLAs from Bengaluru have been consistently following up and pressing for the early commissioning of the line.
