Lionel Messi will be front and center, as always, as Inter Miami meet his former club PSG in the last 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday.
MORE — Club World Cup schedule, dates, how to watch info
Messi spent two seasons in the French capital in 2021-23 alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe but the star trio failed to lead PSG to the holy grail of the Champions League. Of course, PSG won their first-ever Champions League title under Luis Enrique less than a month ago so the timing of this clash with Messi feels particularly apt.
MORE — Predictions for Club World Cup last 16
In terms of the Club World Cup, Miami are the lone MLS team to make it out of the group stage as they beat FC Porto thanks to Messi's magic. And had they not blown a 2-0 lead late on in their final group game against Palmeiras they would have landed on a much easier side of the bracket and not faced PSG in the last 16.

Even though they're the red-hot favorites to advance to the quarterfinals, Enrique's side have had their struggles during the group stage, losing 1-0 to Botafogo. But they also showed their incredible quality by hammering Atletico Madrid 4-0 and who on earth can stop Doue, Barcola, Kvaratskhelia and Co.?

PSG team news, focus
Ousmane Dembele being out injured has obviously had a big impact but the PSG star is back in training and could make his debut in this competition in this game. If he's not fit enough to start, PSG still have plenty of other attackers to fill the gap and it will be intriguing to see if Barcola starts in this game or if Goncalo Ramos gets the nod. The midfield trio are so important to the way PSG play and their full backs Hakimi and Mendes are the x-factor and will aim to get forward as much as possible.
Inter Miami team news, focus
All of the marquee players have played a key role in getting Inter Miami to the last 16 with Messi curling in a free kick to win against Porto, Luis Suarez scoring a beauty against Palmeiras and Sergio Busquets so solid in midfield. Javier Mascherano's side have only lost one of their last eight games in all competitions and after a slow start to the 2025 season things are starting to come together. If they can keep improving defensively we know they have the talents to hurt any team in the world in a single moment. Nobody expects them to beat PSG so they have absolutely nothing to lose.
PSG vs Inter Miami prediction
This feels like it has the makings of a classic. Messi and Miami are desperate to prove they can hang with the big boys from Europe. Expect this to go to extra time and something tells me the MLS side will win on penalties. PSG 2-2 Inter Miami (Miami win on penalties)

New York Red Bulls in talks over Timo Werner move

The New York Red Bulls are engaged in talks over a move for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner. Werner, 29, has 57 caps for Germany and has spent the last 18 months on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, but is surplus to requirements at Leipzig and will be allowed to leave. No agreement has been reached yet, but both sides are optimistic that a deal can be concluded this summer. Advertisement Werner has actually been a long-time target for the RBNY and had the option of joining the club in the summer of 2024. It's understood that negotiations have been underway for some months and that Werner would be keen on a move to MLS, where he would reunite with his former Leipzig teammate, Emil Forsberg. A wide forward, Werner joined Leipzig from Stuttgart in 2016 and scored 78 goals in 127 Bundesliga appearances before to earn a move to Chelsea in 2020, with whom he won the Champions League in 2021. He rejoined Leipzig in 2022, earning a recall to the German national team, and was part of the side that won the DFB-Pokal in 2023, the first trophy in the club's history. But after falling out of favour at Red Bull Arena, he joined Tottenham on loan in January 2024. That loan was then extended by a further year, during which Werner was part of the Spurs team that won the Europa League under Ange Postecoglou. Last season saw the Red Bulls reach MLS Cup for the first time since 2008, falling to fellow founding member LA Galaxy. This winter the club signed Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who has been the team's starting striker. Werner projects to fit in nicely on the left of the forward line, with Scotland international Lewis Morgan on the right and Forsberg pulling the strings beneath. At the midpoint of the 2025 season, New York sits 7th in the Eastern Conference, narrowly in the playoff places. It's unclear whether New York has Werner's 'discovery rights', an MLS mechanism to prevent clubs from up-bidding one another for talent from outside of the league. Should New York need to obtain those rights from another club, they have plenty of allocation money available; as of February 28, their ledger sat at nearly $1.7 million of the league-issued currency.

Kylian Mbappé sues former club Paris Saint-Germain for 'moral harassment' after tense exit from French side

Real Madrid star forward Kylian Mbappé is suing his former club Paris Saint-Germain for moral harassment over his tense exit from the club in 2024. The Paris prosecutor's office confirmed the legal filing on Thursday, per the Associated Press. This follows Mbappé's legal team saying in April it would take action against PSG. The French star claims the club owes him €55 million ($61 million) in unpaid wages, and Mbappé also expressed dissatisfaction over how the club treated him in his final season. Advertisement After declining a contract extension, the 2018 World Cup winner was sidelined for most of PSG's 2023-24 campaign and booed at his final game at the Parc des Princes. According to the prosecutor's office, the 26-year-old is "denouncing the 'lofting' he claimed to have been subjected to at Paris Saint-Germain." In France, the term "lofting" refers to isolating a player from the team due to administrative or disciplinary-related matters. PSG signed Mbappé from Monaco in 2017 and he since helped the club to seven domestic Ligue 1 titles. They appeared in the 2020 Champions League final in 2020 but lost to Bayern Munich. Mbappé scored 256 goals in 308 appearances for the club. Advertisement In 2022, PSG offered Mbappé the most lucrative deal in club history: a three-year, €630 million (approximately $681 million) contract. However, per the AP, Mbappé was reportedly disappointed after the promise to sign key players to play alongside him was not fulfilled. PSG had Neymar, Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos alongside Mbappé from 2021 through 2023 but failed to find success outside of France. In June 2023, Mbappé told PSG he would not exercise his player option and joined Real Madrid on a free transfer. Mbappé's departure did not go as smoothly, as he was left out of PSG's Japan and South Korea tours and trained separately from the first team. He was also sidelined for their opening game that season, but eventually returned to the field despite the visible tension with the club. Mbappé scored 35 goals and three assists in the first season of his five-year deal with Real Madrid. PSG won the Champions League title after steamrolling Inter, 5-0, in May. Mbappé insisted he was not "bitter" after PSG won the title after his exit.

What could Barry bring to Everton?

Everton have reportedly entered negotiations with Villarreal to sign France Under-21 striker Thierno Barry. A Premier League move at the age of 22 would cement Barry's rapid rise in European football in recent seasons. Only three years ago, he completed his first season of senior football in France's fifth tier before moving to Belgian second-tier side Beveren in July 2022. Advertisement Twenty goals in 28 starts were enough to earn a move to Swiss Super League side Basel a year later and he subsequently finished as the club's top scorer on 12 goals in his first campaign of top-flight football. A flurry of eight goals in the first four matches of 2024-25 convinced Villarreal to pay €15m (£12.7m) for his services in August. The 6ft 5in striker was an instant success, scoring 11 goals to help the Yellow Submarine finish fifth with their highest points tally in 17 years and qualify for the Champions League. Barry was in an elite group of players aged under 23 to score 10 or more goals in Europe's top five leagues this season, sitting alongside the likes of Leipzig's in-demand Benjamin Sesko, PSG's Bradley Barcola and Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike. Barry's height makes him a huge threat in the air and he ranked second of all forwards in Europe's major leagues (and top of anyone in La Liga) for aerial duel success in 2024-25, winning 66.7% of his 153 challenges (minimum 100 aerial duels). [BBC] It is a facet of Barry's game that has undoubtedly attracted Everton boss David Moyes, whose sides typically get lots of crosses into the box. The Toffees ranked seventh for open-play crosses in this season's Premier League, although they struggled to convert crosses into goals, scoring just three times from such situations – the fewest of any club other than Chelsea (2).
