'Karate Kid' Star Martin Kove Under Fire Over Alleged Assault Of Actress That Nearly Drew Blood
best known for his role as sensei John Kreese in "The Karate Kid" and Netflix's "," was reportedly kicked out of a Washington State fan convention over the weekend after an alleged physical altercation with a fellow cast member prompted police involvement.
According to a police report, actress Alicia Hannah-Kim accused Kove of biting her on the arm so hard it left a visible bruise and nearly broke the skin.
The incident reportedly occurred at Summer Con in Puyallup, Washington, while both Martin Kove and Alicia Hannah-Kim were in the VIP area.
Per the report obtained by TMZ, Hannah-Kim, who plays Kim Da-Eun in "Cobra Kai," told authorities that she was simply passing by and greeted Kove when he suddenly grabbed her arm and bit down. When she cried out in pain, she claims he responded by kissing the same spot on her arm.
Both the actress and her husband, who witnessed the alleged bite, confronted Kove immediately, telling him his behavior was unacceptable. According to the police report, Kove allegedly became "furious and outraged," insisting that the bite was "for fun."
An officer present at the event reportedly informed Kove that what he had done was considered a crime and instructed him to remain at the scene while the matter was addressed.
Although Hannah-Kim declined to press formal charges, she did request that an informational report be filed and provided statements alongside her husband in the event of any future issues. Police took photographs of what they described as a "very noticeable bite mark" that was already turning blue and bruising.
Following the confrontation, Kove appeared to acknowledge the seriousness of his actions. He reportedly apologized to both Hannah-Kim and her husband in front of the officer before being escorted out of the venue. Police advised him never to repeat such behavior.
While Martin Kove's weekend headlines were dominated by controversy, the actor also closed a major chapter in his career with the emotional series finale of "Cobra Kai."
Reprising his iconic role as John Kreese, Kove saw his character come full circle in the final five episodes of the Netflix series. Once a one-dimensional villain from "The Karate Kid," Kreese was given new depth in "Cobra Kai," a transformation Kove insisted on before joining the show. "I said, 'Listen, I don't want to play this character like I did the movie,'" Kove told Variety. "I want to play him with vulnerability, with flashbacks, with emotionality."
The show delivered on that promise, portraying Kreese as a man driven by pain and misguided loyalty. That complexity came to a head after the death of Kwon, who accidentally impaled himself on Kreese's knife. "I personally saw my body there," Kove recalled of filming the scene. "It's frustrating when people see me as a bad guy, because I cry at supermarket openings. I love vulnerability."
In the finale, Kreese parts ways with Cobra Kai, symbolically passing the torch to Johnny Lawrence, whom he finally embraces as a son. "It's my favorite scene of any scene ever," Kove said. "Johnny was the best, and I was attracted to being his father, because I never had children. He was my son."
But true to character, Kreese goes out swinging. In a dramatic showdown with Terry Silver aboard a yacht, the former sensei sacrifices himself in a fiery explosion to protect Johnny and his family. Or so it seems, "Cobra Kai" fans know better than to rule out one last return.
Despite portraying one of the most fearsome figures in the Cobra Kai universe, Martin Kove isn't nearly as intimidating off-camera, at least according to his co-stars.
During a recent Variety panel, senior TV writer Joe Otterson asked cast members Ralph Macchio, William "Billy" Zabka, Courtney Henggeler, and Vanessa Rubio just how intimidating "Marty" Kove really is behind the scenes.
Henggeler, who plays Amanda LaRusso, didn't directly answer the question, but shared a vivid memory that captured Kove's unique aura. "I feel like we're making one show and Marty's in a completely different series," she joked, recalling a moment when she and Rubio spotted Kove "smoking a cigar, talking on the phone, wearing the coolest sunglasses."
"I want to be on Marty's series," she added. "He's just cooler than anybody that we got going on. He's just his own vibe."
Meanwhile, Zabka, who plays Johnny Lawrence, described Kove as "very sweet" and even "a big brother" in many ways. He praised the veteran actor's dedication to exploring Kreese's complexity. "He's been enjoying getting to dive into some of the more vulnerable areas of John Kreese," Zabka said, noting Kove's efforts to bring more than just menace to the iconic sensei.
As of now, Kove has not publicly commented on the assault allegations.

5 top new movies to stream this week on Netflix, Hulu, Peacock and more (June 24-30)
This week doesn't boast the strongest lineup for new movies, but that doesn't mean there aren't some worth checking out across the top streaming services. Whether you're into chilling horror or an explosive action thriller, there's a bit of something for every taste. The top new movie release is 'The Actor' on Hulu, a moody, surreal psychological drama about a 1950s New York performer who loses his memory after an assault and tries to rebuild his identity in a small Ohio town. Other notable picks include 'The Ritual,' arriving on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) streaming platforms, and 'A Working Man,' coming to MGM Plus, which sees Jason Statham trying to take down a dangerous criminal network. If you're after something new to watch over the next few days, you're in the right spot. And don't forget to check out our guide to the best TV news shows coming up this week, too. What was meant to be a luxurious four-day cruise from Galveston, Texas, to Cozumel, Mexico, quickly turned into a nightmare for the more than 4,000 passengers and crew aboard. An engine room fire damaged critical electrical cables, leaving the ship powerless with no engines, no refrigeration, no lights, no air conditioning, and most disastrously, no working toilets. As the days passed, untreated sewage began flooding the ship, food supplies started running low, and frustration boiled over into passenger unrest. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. 'Trainwreck: Poop Cruise' is the latest entry in Netflix's 'Trainwreck' documentary series. This episode revisits the infamous 2013 Carnival Triumph disaster, where passengers were stranded at sea without power or plumbing, leading to unsanitary conditions and earning the event its nickname. Watch on Netflix from June 24 Following the surprising charm of last year's 'The Beekeeper,' Jason Statham teams up again with director David Ayer for 'A Working Man.' However, this new collaboration plays it much more straight, delivering a fairly conventional action thriller. That's where it loses some points. Still, if you enjoy the familiar formula of Statham's gritty heroes, this will hit the mark. 'A Working Man' follows Levon Cade, a hardworking construction foreman trying to move past his shadowy history as a decorated black ops operative. But when his employer's daughter is abducted by a human trafficking ring, Levon returns to his old, lethal ways. His quest to save her drags him back into a brutal criminal world and places his own family in danger. While critics were lukewarm on the movie, audiences responded far more positively, clearly enjoying the familiar thrills and Statham's intense presence. Watch on MGM Plus from June 26 'The Ritual' is probably one of the worst-reviewed movies of the year, currently holding a mere 6% on Rotten Tomatoes. I'm not surprised, given it stumbles for a few reasons, most notably its heavy reliance on familiar exorcism clichés that make the story feel predictable and somewhat flat. Even with big names like Al Pacino and Dan Stevens, the performances don't quite land. That said, user reviews suggest audiences found it more enjoyable than critics did. It's not a movie you need to completely avoid, but don't expect many scares, as it feels more like a dark thriller than a traditional horror flick. 'The Ritual' dramatizes the 1928 exorcism of Emma Schmidt (portrayed by Abigail Cowen), one of the most documented cases in U.S. history. Set in Earling, Iowa, the story follows two priests — Father Theophilus Riesinger (Pacino), a seasoned exorcist, and Father Joseph Steiger (Stevens), a younger priest grappling with his faith, as they perform a harrowing series of exorcisms to save Emma. In the end, this movie will likely appeal to those interested in its topic, but for others, it may fall short on delivering scares or entertainment. Buy or rent on Amazon from June 27 'The Woman in the Yard' is a movie I went into hoping for more than it delivered. But unfortunately, this Blumhouse effort doesn't quite live up to that standard. While it does offer a few genuinely unsettling moments, it mostly hovers around the 'average' rating. If you love horror, you'll probably still find something to like in this one, especially if you enjoyed both the film and book versions of 'The Woman in Black.' In 'The Woman in the Yard,' Danielle Deadwyler stars as Ramona, a grieving and physically injured mother coping with the loss of her husband after a serious car crash. Living in a remote farmhouse with her two children, Ramona's fragile hold on reality is tested when a mysterious woman clad in black suddenly appears on her front lawn. At first dismissed as a stranger in distress, the figure soon becomes a relentless and sinister presence, creeping ever closer to Ramona's home. Watch on Peacock from June 27 Duke Johnson proves himself to be a filmmaker with a distinct visual and creative sensibility, something that was already apparent in his collaboration with Charlie Kaufman on the Oscar-nominated 'Anomalisa.' With 'The Actor,' Johnson steps out on his own for his first solo live-action feature, adapting Donald Westlake's novel "Memory," which was written in the 1960s but only published decades later. That sense of temporal disorientation seeps into nearly every frame of the movie. Even if you're unfamiliar with the source material, Johnson's artistic touch is unmistakable. 'The Actor' centers on Paul Cole (André Holland), a New York actor who awakens with no memory in a small 1950s Midwestern town after a violent assault. Struggling to piece together his identity, he takes up work at a tannery and begins a tentative romance with local costume designer Edna (Gemma Chan) as fragments of his past gradually resurface. This psychological drama plays out like a haunting, noir-tinged identity mystery where no face or place feels quite real, and even Paul's own recollections are filtered through a dreamlike, stage-like aesthetic. Watch on Hulu from June 30

‘Cobra Kai' star Alicia Hannah-Kim accuses Martin Kove of assaulting and biting her at fan convention
Looks like Martin Kove may have taken his character John Kreese's motto a little too far. The 'Cobra Kai' actor, 78, was reportedly kicked out of the Washington State fan convention after being accused of assaulting his co-star Alicia Hannah-Kim over the weekend. Hannah-Kim told an officer working the fan event that Kove allegedly bit her arm, and when she yelled out in pain, he 'began kissing' the area. 6 Martin Kove attends the '1923' S2 Premiere at Harmony Gold on February 19, 2025. Getty Images for Paramount+ According to an informational police report obtained by People, Hannah-Kim claimed the alleged attack happened when she tapped Kove on the shoulder to greet him at their cast booth. 'Martin Kove suddenly grabbed her arm and bit her upper arm so hard it nearly drew blood, and she yelled out in pain,' the documents read. 'Once Martin Kove finished biting her arm, he grabbed her arm again and began kissing it where he had bit her.' Hannah-Kim — who starred alongside Kove as Kim Da-Eun for Season 5 and 6 of the Netflix series — claimed her husband, Sebastian Roche, was there and witnessed the alleged attack. When the pair confronted the actor, he reportedly 'exploded on them' while insisting 'he did not do anything wrong.' She found an on-site officer, who noted that she 'had a very noticeable bite mark on her arm that was already turning blue and bruising,' per the report. 6 Alicia Hannah-Kim attends the 'Karate Kid: Legends' Premiere. 'He thought he was being funny, and they play fight all the time on the set of Cobra Kai, and he did not think it was a big deal,' the report stated. When the officer informed Kove that his alleged assault was illegal and would 'not be tolerated in the future,' the actor responded that 'he was just messing around' and 'did not mean for it to be perceived as illegal.' 6 Alicia Hannah-Kim. Kove was then 'escorted out of Summer Con,' per the report. The Post reached out to Kove's reps for comment. The actor found fame as John Kreese in the 1984 movie 'The Karate Kid.' He reprised the role for Parts 2 and 3 of the film franchise. He joined Netflix's show 'Cobra Kai' in 2018 and starred in the series until showrunners announced it would not be returning after Season 6.
