CGS launches Malaysia's first Islamic equity-linked structured investment products

The Sun6 days ago
PETALING JAYA: CGS International Securities Pte Ltd, through subsidiary CGS International Securities Malaysia Sdn Bhd, has introduced its latest Islamic structured investment offerings specifically designed for sophisticated investors in Malaysia.
The newly launched products – the Islamic Equity Linked Investment Notes and the Islamic Autocallable Equity Structured Investment Notes – mark a significant milestone for CGS Malaysia, making it the first broker in the country to introduce Islamic equity-linked structured products.
The move underscores the firm's commitment to developing innovative and market-relevant financial instruments.
The launch comes at a strategic time, as CGS Malaysia deepens collaboration with policymakers and leverages its strong regional and China network to further position Malaysia as a competitive business and investment destination.
According to CGS Malaysia deputy CEO Khairi Shahrin Arief Baki, the firm remains focused on delivering investment solutions that align with evolving market demands, particularly as more investors seek alternatives to conventional assets.
'Sophisticated investors are increasingly looking to diversify their portfolios at manageable risk levels while ensuring alignment with their personal values,' he said in a statement.
'With most of our capital market assets already syariah-compliant and expanding, we see tremendous opportunity to innovate and offer a wider range of investment products for sophisticated investors, regardless of individual beliefs.'
He added that Malaysia's globally recognised leadership in Islamic finance – bolstered by a robust regulatory framework and decades of industry development – sets the stage for these new instruments to serve as trusted avenues for investors looking to enhance portfolio yields.
The launch follows CGS Malaysia's introduction of its single-family office solution, aimed at high- and ultra-high-net-worth individuals seeking to establish a presence in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.
This momentum reflects a growing investor preference for stability and values-driven investing within Asean, including syariah-compliant products and those aligned with environmental, social and governance principles.
Both the Islamic Equity and the Islamic Autocallable Equity products offer structured exposure to syariah-compliant equities, tailored for sophisticated investors, including accredited investors, high-net-worth individuals, and corporate entities.
These instruments offer the potential for regular, fixed profit payouts, with profit rates typically higher than those of traditional Islamic fixed deposits, alongside tailored payoff structures to suit various risk appetites and market outlooks.
The Islamic Equity is a non-principal-protected, short-term product that delivers returns based on the price performance of a syariah-compliant reference instrument.
The Islamic Autocallable Equity features a knock-in and knock-out structure, offering monthly profit payouts and a defined maturity of up to 12 months.

Global ESG sukuk poised to top US$60bil by 2026

KUALA LUMPUR: Global environmental, social, and governance (ESG) sukuk is likely to surpass US$60 billion in outstanding value by the end of 2026, according to Fitch Ratings. The rating agency said the growth reflects its expanding role in funding sustainability initiatives, attracting a diverse investor base, and benefiting from ongoing regulatory reforms. It noted that just over 40 per cent of all emerging-market ESG US dollar debt issued in the first half of 2025 (1H25), excluding China, was in sukuk format, with the rest in bonds. However, Fitch Ratings expects ESG sukuk issuance to moderate in the third quarter of 2025 (3Q25) due to seasonal summer trends in key markets, mirroring broader sukuk market patterns, before rebounding in 4Q25. Its global head of Islamic Finance, Bashar Al Natoor, said Fitch-rated ESG sukuk has been resilient to the Middle East geopolitical conflict. "All issuers have Stable Outlooks, and almost all are investment-grade. There were no defaults. "ESG sukuk are now increasingly tapped by both Islamic and ESG-focused investors, supporting funding diversification and helping issuers meet their sustainability targets," he added. According to Fitch Ratings, over 10 per cent of global dollar sukuk outstanding are ESG-linked. Global ESG sukuk increased by just over 12 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in 1H25 to about US$50 billion equivalent outstanding. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) accounted for over half of this, led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, while Malaysia and Indonesia together represented 40 per cent. Fitch Ratings covers about three-quarters of the global US dollar ESG sukuk market, the vast majority of which is senior unsecured, with around one per cent being subordinated. Key listing venues for dollar-denominated ESG sukuk include the stock exchanges in Frankfurt, London, Stuttgart, and Nasdaq Dubai. Issuer diversity increased notably in the second quarter of 2025, with examples such as UAE-based Omniyat Holdings Ltd's debut green sukuk, rated 'BB-', and Pakistan's first rupee-denominated sovereign green sukuk, which was unrated. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia's Capital Market Authority introduced new guidelines for green, social, sustainability, and sustainability-linked debt instruments. However, it said geopolitical risks, evolving Shariah interpretations, oil price volatility, and greenwashing concerns may weigh on future ESG sukuk issuance.

The delegation in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. MALAYSIA'S tourism industry delegation, representing more than 25 Malaysian travel companies made a working visit to Uzbekistan. Organised at the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Malaysia and the Uzbekistan tourism committee, the delegation included leaders from key Malaysian tourism associations such as the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), the Association of Bumiputera Tourism Operating Companies of Malaysia (Bumitra) and the Association of Umrah and Hajj Tourism Agencies (Papuh). Malaysian actress and TV presenter Adrea Abdullah also joined the visit at the invitation of Uzbekistan. During their week-long stay earlier this month, the delegation toured the Jizzakh, Samarkand and Bukhara regions as well as the capital city Tashkent. 'The visit provided the Malaysian delegation with a unique opportunity to explore Uzbekistan's rich cultural heritage, Islamic pilgrimage sites, and growing tourism infrastructure,' the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Malaysia said in a media statement. 'A series of presentations showcasing Uzbekistan's tourism potential were held alongside G2B (government-to-business) and B2B (business-to-business) meetings. 'These sessions brought together Uzbek and Malaysian tour operators to discuss opportunities for expanding the flow of Malaysian tourists to Uzbekistan and establishing long-term partnerships.' Delegates also had the opportunity to experience the services provided by Uzbekistan Airways on its direct Kuala Lumpur-Tashkent flights. This landmark visit followed the official visit of Uzbekistan president Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Malaysia last February and served as part of the implementation of key bilateral agreements in tourism. 'The visit underscores the shared commitment of both nations to foster closer cooperation in the tourism sector and paves the way for increased people-to-people exchanges and economic collaboration,' the statement concluded.

Tourism agency association: Protests could tarnish Malaysia's image, impact Visit Malaysia year

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Tourism Agency Association (Mata) has expressed its concern over the impact of street demonstrations, particularly in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), as they could threaten public security and tarnish the country's reputation as a safe tourism destination. It said that with Malaysia actively promoting VM2026 to attract millions of international visitors, such continued large-scale public demonstrations could hinder those efforts. "A tarnished national image can directly affect tourist arrivals and foreign investments. Demonstrations can affect business operations and employment opportunities, and increase the overall cost of living for the people. The people's peace and safety are priorities that cannot be compromised," it said in a statement today. Mata also warned that mobilising the people to take to the streets posed a security risk, including potential provocation, conflicts and disorders that could threaten public order. It also said that Malaysia, known as a destination for Islamic and nature-based tourism, would face huge challenges if street demonstrations continue and receive negative media exposure globally. Meanwhile, Mata president Datuk Sri Dr Mohd Khalid Harun said in the same statement that Malaysia is currently in a strong post-pandemic economic recovery phase. "Stability and peace are the foundation of progress in the tourism industry. Without safety guarantees, tourists will choose other destinations, which are more stable and safer," he said. He said that Mata recognises the people's right to voice their opinions, but stressed that every action must be carried out responsibly without compromising national harmony. "We must work together to maintain stability to ensure VM2026 is successful and the people's economy continues to grow," he said.
