Intel's manufacturing unit gets more ‘bad news' after company CEO Lip-Bu Tan's major restructuring announcement
Intel's manufacturing unit faces more "bad news" as three senior executives in its operations are set to retire. This declaration from the company follows
CEO Lip-Bu Tan
's announcement of major restructuring plans in its manufacturing unit. The latest announcement marks further change as Tan works to revitalise the struggling US-based chipmaker. According to a report by the news agency Reuters,
Intel
has confirmed that
Kaizad Mistry
and Ryan Russell, both corporate vice presidents in the technology development group, will retire. Additionally, Gary Patton, a corporate vice president at its Design Technology Platform organisation and a former IBM executive, is also retiring. The latest departures underscore the significant shifts occurring within Intel's manufacturing operations.
Other changes may be coming for Intel's manufacturing process
Intel has also discussed internal changes to its technology development group, which oversees the creation of manufacturing processes. The Reuters report also cited two individuals familiar with the matter to claim. The company is also reportedly planning to scale down its manufacturing capacity planning team and reduce part of its engineering workforce, the sources told Reuters.
Manufacturing operations are currently led by
Naga Chandrasekaran
, a former Micron Technology executive, who joined Intel about a year ago under previous CEO Pat Gelsinger. In March, Chandrasekaran's role expanded to include both technology development and manufacturing. Since then, he has reorganised the teams under him, which provides for layoffs as part of broader global workforce reductions.

What changes Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan has already announced
Last week, during its quarterly earnings announcement, Intel's new CEO announced several significant changes for the company. Tan, who stepped into the role in March, outlined a plan to reduce the company's workforce to 75,000 by year-end, a cut of roughly 22%. The chipmaker also said it would adopt a more cautious approach to manufacturing investments.
Intel added that the continuation of its next-generation 14A manufacturing process depends on landing a significant customer. Without one, the company may halt or abandon development.
In a memo, Tan noted:
'We're developing Intel 14A ... from the ground up in close partnership with large external customers. Going forward, our investment in Intel 14A will be based on confirmed customer commitments.'
Tan also informed investors that Intel's 18A process would likely deliver a reasonable return only if applied to the company's products.
According to a previous report from Reuters, he has also considered discontinuing the offering of 18A technology to external clients to concentrate resources on the 14A process. Intel is reportedly planning to begin high-volume production of its
Panther Lake PC chips
later this year using the 18A process.

'Heard India Will Stop?' Trump Reacts After India Defends Buying Russian Oil Amid 25% US Tariff Bomb In a bold claim, US President Donald Trump has said India is 'no longer going to be buying oil from Russia'. He called it a 'good step,' though he wasn't sure of its accuracy. His remark follows Washington's 25% tariff blow and veiled threats of penalties. But India has pushed back with clarity. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reaffirmed New Delhi's 'time-tested' partnership with Moscow and clarified that India's choices are market-driven and sovereign. While state refiners reportedly paused Russian oil purchases last week, officials say no final decision has been made. Is this a shift in India's energy policy or a short-term pause due to changing prices? As Trump dials up the pressure, New Delhi remains focused on balancing strategic ties with national interest. IND vs ENG 5th Test: On-field drama peaks as Yashasvi Jaiswal clashes with Ben Duckett and earlier with Ollie Pope
Tensions are running high at The Oval as India intensifies their efforts to level the Test series, and the competitive spirit has started to flare on the field. On the morning of Day 4, Yashasvi Jaiswal was seen engaging in a verbal exchange with Ben Duckett , teasing him about toning down his usual aggressive batting style. Jaiswal reportedly said while fielding close-in, 'Come on, I want to see your shots. Play the sweep, reverse sweep. This is not your game.' Duckett didn't back down and fired back, 'Why should I listen to you?' Soon after, Shubman Gill also got involved, making it evident that the Indian side intended to maintain pressure with both their bowling attack and sledging. At stumps on Day 3, they were 50 for 1, having lost Zak Crawley to a pinpoint yorker from Mohammed Siraj on the last delivery of the day. Duckett, who resumed Day 4 on 34 not out, reached 55 before being removed by Prasidh Krishna. India's commanding position was anchored by another superb century from Jaiswal, who made 118, with crucial half-centuries coming from Akash Deep, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar. The visitors posted a total of 396 in their second innings, leaving England with a daunting task over the final two days—to either chase the total down or bat it out for a draw. Live Events Earlier in the day, just as the players headed in for the lunch break, tensions flared as Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope engaged in a heated exchange with Yashasvi Jaiswal. The moment unfolded after Crawley, who appeared to be limping in the final over—possibly attempting to run down the clock—provoked visible irritation from the England camp. Crawley, in particular, looked especially animated, continuing a pattern of verbal spats that began during the Third Test, where he and Shubman Gill had also exchanged words on the field.
