Canucks Dealt Reality Check on Sabres' Bowen Byram Speculation
Trade speculation connecting Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram to the Vancouver Canucks emerged before the player was sent to arbitration as a restricted free agent.

According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, however, the rumors about a possible trade to the Canadian franchise has been overstated.
Pagnotta acknowledged Vancouver's interest in the player early last season, but dismissed the notion of a potential trade this offseason during an appearance on the "Sekeres & Price" podcast on Tuesday.
'So, with the Canucks, I think it was real more so in the season than it was this past June,' Pagnotta said. 'But honestly, for me, it would probably be something coming out of left field once all is said and done if something does happen with the Canucks.'

By taking Byram to arbitration, the Sabres blocked possible offer sheets for their player but handed him control over the length of his next contract, whether that's for one or two seasons.
If Byram chooses the one-year deal, he will be a restricted free agent once again next season. If he chooses the two-year contract, however, he will enter unrestricted free agency in July 2026.
'(The arbitration) eliminates the offer sheet threat,' Pagnotta said. 'But it doesn't eliminate the fact that they may still end up moving him at some point once they figure out the contract and all that stuff. So he's still available.'

The Sabres aren't openly shopping Byram, but general manager Kevyn Adams acknowledged a trade could materialize under the right conditions, which for Buffalo means landing impact players instead of future assets.

'If there's a deal out there that makes sense for us … we're open to it,' Adams said.
Pagnotta said that the Sabres "want to upgrade themselves up front," adding that Byram "would prefer a change of scenery," but emphasized a Canucks deal remains highly unlikely.

Rosario is earning $2 million this season and is a pending free agent, so the cost to acquire him wouldn't be too high. He would be a bench bat who can play all over the field and give Blue Jays' manager John Schneider some more options while constructing his lineup. Rosario is hitting .273 with 5 home runs and 17 RBIs. He can play second base, shortstop, and the outfield. Tigers 'make a lot of sense' in trade for $275 million All-Star third baseman
The MLB trade deadline presents an opportunity for the Detroit Tigers to shore up the roster for a deep postseason run. While the team is expected to pursue more relievers, the team is also being linked to a third baseman at the deadline. For Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Tigers could "make a ton of sense" for a third baseman from the St. Louis Cardinals. Bowden thinks a Nolan Arenado trade with the Tigers could work for both sides. "The Cardinals could still move Nolan Arenado and be willing to pay down his contract," Bowden writes, "a team like the Tigers makes a lot of sense in that scenario because St. Louis could include a reliever in the deal as well." It's an interesting scenario from Bowden. The Tigers could land Arenado, one of the game's best third basemen, and a reliever from the Cardinals in a trade deadline blockbuster. While Arenado isn't up to his usual performance, hitting just .241 with a .680 OPS, he'd still be a solid pickup for the Tigers. Those numbers aren't terrible, but they are below-average. But, as Bowden mentions, the Tigers could also add a reliever in this deal. Ryan Helsley is the Cardinals' top option, though combined with Arenado, it might be too steep a price for the Tigers to pay. Arenado and a reliever would cost the Tigers a lot, but it'd plug two holes on the roster: reliever and third base. In this scenario, the Cardinals would pick up some of Arenado's remaining contract. He signed through the 2027 season on a huge $275 million deal. While the Tigers wouldn't be on the hook for all of the remaining salary, it'd still be a huge investment. The ten-time Gold Glove winner and six-time Platinum Glove winner would be a great addition to the Tigers' roster. He'd improve the defense at third base, and also could provide a spark in the lineup. However, there's a huge requirement for any deal with Areando: he needs to waive his no-trade clause. He has control over where he goes, and if he doesn't want to head to Detroit, then he can nix any deal that he's involved in. While Bowden thinks an Arenado to Detroit trade makes a lot of sense, Arenado could see it differently and shut down such a deal before it can cross the finish line. MORE MLB NEWS: Padres' A.J. Solar Bears introduce new head coach
The Orlando Solar Bears introduced Matt Macdonald as the sixth head coach and general manager in franchise history. Macdonald spent the last seven seasons as an assistant coach in the AHL, most recently with the Bridgeport Islanders and Grand Rapids Griffins.
