The midfielder collapsed in pain and received treatment from physios, with fan fearing he had injured his anterior crucial ligament.
Those fans have now been realised and Maddison will undergo surgery on his right knee.
Recovery from the operation will keep the England star out for months and he is at risk of missing the entire season.
Spurs boss Thomas Frank confirmed after the match it was a "bad injury".
Maddison, 28, subsequently underwent tests on his knee after returning from Asia.
Tottenham have confirmed the ACL injury and Maddison will begin his rehabilitation with the medical team following his surgery.

Man City join Man Utd in transfer race to sign £104m Premier League midfielder

Manchester City have reportedly joined Manchester United in a transfer race to sign £104m Premier League star Carlos Baleba from Brighton. It emerged on Wednesday that United had 'made contact' with Brighton via intermediaries to explore the conditions of a move for the midfielder. United are keen to recruit a new No.6 – and have made Baleba one of their main targets. It was initially thought Brighton wanted £90m plus £10m in add-ons for Baleba – but ESPN claim that the Seagulls are demanding €120m (£104m). The outlet adds that City are very much interested in signing Baleba, with Pep Guardiola reported to be long-term admirer of the Cameroonian. Brighton are believed to want to keep Baleba at the Amex for at least another year and do not intend to offload the 21-year-old this summer. United do not currently have the funds to sign Baleba, who they value at around £70m despite Brighton's £104m price tag. But the potential sales of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho could see United make an approach before the current window closes. ESPN have reported that Baleba is happy to stay with Brighton for the 2025-25 season, with a move considered more likely next summer. Baleba is under contract with the south coast club until 2028 with an option to extend by 12 months. The Seagulls star has made 77 appearances for Brighton to date since his £26m move from Lille in 2023. Baleba was named Brighton's Young Player of the Season last term after a number of impressive performances. More Trending According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United believe agreeing personal terms with Baleba terms won't be an issue. Baleba could become the latest Brighton player to secure a move to one of the Premier League's 'big six' clubs. Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella and Joao Pedro all left Brighton to sign for Chelsea in recent seasons. Ben White, meanwhile, went to Arsenal, while Tottenham recruited Yves Bissouma and Alexis Mac Allister was snapped up by Liverpool. The German giants ended up running away with a 4-0 victory, but the most lasting effect of the game may be a sore couple of days to come for Kane. It took Spurs' Argentinian centre-back just six minutes to catch Kane the first time, charging through the back of the Tottenham legend as he received the ball. A 12th-minute goal for the England captain did nothing to calm the fury of his ex-teammate. The 27-year-old earned a yellow card in the 41st minute of the friendly for a cynical pull on Kane as he attempted to launch a counter attack. He darted in front of the 32-year-old in the 58th minute of the game, completely missing the ball as the pair clattered together at the edge of the box. Kane had to take a moment to regather himself after the collision, which had sent him sprawling to the ground. Fans of the club were quick to point out the cynical treatment of the Spurs legend on social media. It's a friendly you nutter. We still want him to come back?" Romero is no stranger to the dark arts, nor to yellow cards, having picked up 27 in his 100 Premier League appearances for Spurs to date. James Maddison could miss 2025-26 season as Tottenham confirm midfielder suffered ACL injury He captained Spurs in the match, following the departure of club captain Son Heung-Min to LAFC, meaning some of his misguided gusto may have been a result of wanting to lead by example. Whether his example helped the team or not, the end result was somewhat embarrassing for the Lilywhites. Kingsley Coman gave Bayern a 2-0 lead in the 61st minute, before late goals from teenagers Lennart Karl and Jonah Kusi-Asare sealed a huge margin of victory for the German Champions.

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill set for lengthy absence following ACL surgery

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill is set to miss a significant portion of the upcoming season after undergoing successful surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The Blues kick off their Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on August 17, but Enzo Maresca will not have the 22-year-old at his disposal after Colwill sustained the injury in training at their Cobham base. The Colwill blow could possibly open the door for Jorrel Hato, the Blues' new signing from Ajax. A Chelsea statement read: 'Defender Levi Colwill has today undergone successful surgery to an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Chelsea FC has released the following update regarding Levi Colwill. — Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) August 7, 2025 'The 22-year-old had reported back to Cobham for pre-season at the start of this week, before unfortunately sustaining the injury in training. 'Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action. 'Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the club's medical department at Cobham during his rehabilitation phase.'
